There are so many pubs in Surry Hills that it can be almost impossible to find a decent one. Well, this place comes close, not just with its character (the artwork on the walls is pretty cool, and artwork is something that always impresses me), but with the huge craft beer selections they have as well. Then again, being a craft beer bar is always going to be a huge bonus where I happen to be concerned. Yep, this pub is definitely going to be on my must go back sometime list, though the beer garden can get a little crowded.

Love the name off this place and the reviews that followed :)!! A decent pub tucked away away in surry hills :), 2 levels with the bar and sports on the bottom and a var and dining upstairs. If you look behind you before you get to the top of the stairs you'll seee a big cool moose head :D!! You never see things like that as much anymore lol! This place is very inviting which ever floor your on :). Came here for a birthday dinner so was upstairs :). Been here once before & was downstairs, had their veggie/meat pies & craft beers :)!! Pies were on point tasty :D, had 2 of the beef & 1 chicken, Craft beers are way better than the popular brews :)!! Was here for the nd time for a birthday, was 5 of us all up and we were all hungry so for starters we got both the fries & the sweet potato wedges, buttermilk wings, mac n cheese balls. Honestly i hate the say it but the starters were nothing out of the ordinary.... For mains we got southern fried chicken burger, hickory smoked pulled beef brisket burger (was told it was one of the very popular burgers), rump steak, beer battered fish n chips & the Jambalaya :). The Jambalaya, the rump steak & fish n chips were fairly simple but on point in tasty :D!!! but as for the burgers they both came out cold and even being cold it didn't taste as good either, a good burger is good cold or warm so it was no point asking for it to be warmed up haha.. I would definitely be back for the pies & the beers, thats about it though :)

Had a birthday on the Dove and Olive balcony which worked out beautifully. The food was good, the beers were fantastic and the friendly waitstaff were so attentive, it seemed odd at first (I got used to it real quick). Post renovation, these guys have really built themselves a reputation as a craft beer destination. They've done a good job hipster-ing themselves up (moose heads, antique lamps, boutique beer) without wandering into wanker-territory. Between the selection of beer on tap that would make Danny Murph look limited and their daily specials (hellooo $9 steaks!) add this to your list of summer beer hangouts!

Really great food at this pub. Pretty busy downstairs however we were upstairs where it was heaps quieter. Plus more space. Generous portions for the price you pay as well.

This place is another nice old Surry Hills pub (built in 1876, apparently) that's been treated to an upgrade. You've got a few spaces to choose from: the main bar downstairs, the courtyard or balcony, or the cocktail bar upstairs. There are a bunch of events, like live jazz each Sunday and cocktail happy hour from 4pm to 7pm Monday to Friday. There's also $1 pool between 6pm and 8pm Monday to Friday and all day Sunday! There are $10 meals on offer all day, but I'd recommend the beef and Burgundy pie with mash and peas for $16 (an excellent winter warmer) or the chicken schnitzel burger with chips and guacamole for $12. There's also a bottle shop attached should you wish to take a few roadies with you.

Beer and chicken meat pie... a perfect combination

New in town and looking for a chill spot to have a good meal and drink? Look no further! I came in and the bar tender was very polite while recommending beers and something to eat to a Texan like me. I ordered the chicken meat pie and a beer and everything came out good. I'm glad I made this the first stop on the vacation

Absolutely excellent beer, service, and atmosphere! Even on a packed night, the bartender helped me choose a good local craft beer. It was harder than usual to do so, as they were having an American tap takeover in honor of the Fourth of July. Their chicken mushroom leek pie is scrumptious, and the crust is perfectly flaky.

Went to the new and improving Dove and Olive (old Clarendon) last week. The new owners definitely know what they are doing. I had a beautiful chorizo and prawn pizza as well as a steak. The pizza didn't even feel oily! Was pretty impressed with the size of the steak too, for a reasonable price. Give it a crack, the foods a winner.

It's happening!!! ...... I need a taxi !!!

One of my favorite pubs in Surry Hills .... it's got the awesome array of craft beers I enjoy plus the food that makes you wish you lived next door .... and that atmosphere that seems like something huge is always going on. One of the coolest ones in the area ..... even better if you score a window seat and watch the world go by.

Both bartenders were quick, courteous, and gave awesome recommendations. I usually drink beer but since this was more of a cocktail bar, I started with a margarita. I asked for the basic, but the bartender quickly tried to get me to try the jalapeno margarita. I was quick to decline since I'm not into jalapeno or spicy drinks. The drink was mixed and strained into a martini glass... didn't seem to be as full as it should have been, but I wasn't upset. Drink tasted great, not too strong, too sweet, or too tart. I noticed lots of people getting the freshly pressed apple drinks, so I decided to try one. When in Rome, er, Newtown.... Asked for the Sailor Jerry and apple, but once again, the bartender was quick to recommend something different. He wanted me to try JD Tennessee Fire and apple. I know it's like Fireball, which I hate, but he was very persistent with his glowing recommendation, so I obliged. I'm glad I did, because it was delicious. You could only taste a hint of the whiskey, but mixed in with the fresh apple juice - which had a nice frothy foam on top - it was like cinnamon spiced apple sauce. Yum! If you don't listen to the bartender's advice, listen to mine! Prices? Eh, it's Sydney, not cheap. It is what it is. In the end, very pleased with my visit. Kind of annoying that both times I asked for a drink, they tried to convince me to make me something else (must have been competing on a promo or something), but hey, their advice was sound and if I didn't listen, I would't have had my delicious applesauce drink!

Great little bar to catch up with friends or to kill time!…read more Bartender is very chilled and down to earth, very hospitable. It was a Friday night, and the place wasn't too packed, it was calm and responsible - which wasn't what I thought it would be by the interior and exterior contemporary design - looked more publish, with a TAB & late night cosy couches. Maybe it was just the cold weather. The outside was where I spent the most of my time, and it was pleasant, and lively at times, and one of the biggest courtyards I've seen. Beware of the many smokers that use this area, on the flip side, it's smoker friendly. The drinks were well priced, and the specials were great, the bar tenders were very helpful in recommending some different drink inventions. Although the overall place missed a vibe I was used to, and it just wasn't the most interesting place to have a few drinks.

The deco is confusing, however charming. A bare brick wall, racked ceiling with chicken wire, plumbing with light globes coming out every which way. Like an outback pub trying to keep things modern and trendy. The bar lady seemed a touch preoccupied. As if she was expecting an order of something to arrive. Such behaviour isn't indicative of bad service, it was just slightly distracting to continuously see a head pop out from behind a wall to gaze over the front entrance. I went for the $12 lunch special. One Black Angus Beef Burger with thick cut chips and ketchup on the side. The chips lived up the standard thick cut. Decent amount of crunch while fluffy inside. I believe the ketchup was made in house. Tasted like smooth tomato chutney which a touch of chilli for warmth. Nice. Everything about the burger was fresh. The beef wasn't over processed. The cheese and sauces complimented everything. The bun was soft. Simplictic and wholesome. Burgers like how mum use to make... but in a pub. For $12 it was a decent meal. I was certainly filled up by the end of it but not so much that I couldn't walk. When you're in Newtown you need to be able to use your legs. I'd like to return here with a group of friends.
