Hidden just off the main street of Marrickville up a few flights of stairs you walk in to a awesome bar with the roof painted with a huge Kama sutra mural and tin roof tiles and leather lounges. Jazz hands... What an eclectic, eccentric and too cool for you, place this is. LazyBones is about as underground as you can get on the second level. It's a Jazz club with live acts every night, its a bar lounge. It's sophisticated dark and intimate. " Once you're inside Step back", says the purple haired door mistress with the voice activated LED t shirt, "and look up". Apparently painted by a famous Sydney artist, there is a huge mural on the ceiling. The place was pumping on Friday night. Jimmy Vargas and Mia Mortal (say it slowly... ) Vargas like a Brian Ferry look-a-like is apparently a self titled 'Croonoir' from San Francisco's cabaret. Mia Mortal has been sashaying the burlesque scene for the past 25 years. The show was a stunner. The Owner Craig was at the door when we walked in, he told us he'd moved up from Melbourne, and had been running clubs like Lazybones for years. He said "If it's not underground, I'm not interested" I liked his Moxie, and I had to concur. The hipster scene seems finally on it's knees with the clientele here being an over 30s crowd. I admit, I felt very relaxed. I even saw a member of a well known Sydney rock band here. If you want to stay ahead of the game? Say Hello to sophisticated class! Lazybones you're doing it right. $10 on the door gets you entry. Wine and Beer are priced reasonably, cocktails at $18 seemed a little pricey, but it looked like top shelf liquor. The menu, while I didnt try it, featured "Bunny Chow" with pick your own topping for around $12 as I recall. There were also Samosas and curries. It's very loud on a Friday night, Adults only. Good for date night or a chilled out trip into sin alley. read more

I live within walking distance of this venue and visited for the first time a few weeks ago when a friend was performing there for an amateur singing night. The venue is multi story, very quirky. It's filled with couches and all sorts of artifacts. I use that word because I'm not sure how else to articulate the un-usualness of the decor. I found my eyes finding something new to take in everywhere I looked. Make sure you look up at the ceiling to take in the mural of a blue man penetrating a woman (Yes really, that is not a typo) Quite a few people I met on the night seemed to say "I know the owner", I'm not that cool but from what I hear, he seems to be a bit of a Marrickville Icon. They have jazz nights regularly and offer a range of food and cocktail options, I'll be visiting again to suss it out a little more. read more

Wow wow wow!!! If you sneeze, you could miss the entrance since it's not all that 'in your face' on the street. There is a cover charge of $20pp to walk in the door. I'm not sure there's an elevator so if you aren't able to walk up two flights of stairs, better give them a ringy-dingy before you head over. We went for the Jazz but started out in the 2nd floor for some finger foods and drinks. What a hoot!! The menu has a good variety of choices and we had the 4 cheese pizza and chips. Both soooooo good! The volume was not so noisy so we could actually talk and hear each other. Then the first band came in and, I'm sorry to say I did not catch their name because they were incredible! Their vocalist has quite a versatile range and adorbs. The guitarists and drummer were da best!!! We sat there longer than planned because song after song was wonderful! And, make sure you check out the ceilings!! Purty interesting to say the least. (If you are more a prudish type, I suggest not looking up. No judgement!) But, eventually we did go to the jazz venue.... Jazz. Hot Jazz! Mellow, delicious and...what can I say? This band was soooo laid back....and talented! Lots of great tunes from the '50's that were well done. Oh and.....definitely (!!!) check out the ceilings in here, too. I can not imagine what this building housed before Lazy Bones, but....just check it out! Parking on a Friday night...not too much in the main drag but we found side streets had plenty of free parking available. One more thing i noticed is the variety of age. Top floor was mostly 20's and up though there was a few more mature people, too. Jazz venue I'd say 30's and older. Yeah...we were the oldies but goodies at both places!! Lol. I first discovered Lazybones lounge as the newest, hippest place to hear excellent live music every night of the week . Then, being of mature age, I also appreciated the comfort of the leather lounges, the chandeliers, the fantastic decor,and the general friendliness of the place. Then I noticed the brilliant art work on the ceiling -scenes from the Kama Sutra upstairs,and Japanese erotica downstairs. Something to ponder on while being entertained . And now, along with the fine wines and top class whiskies available -a new cook, Phillip, who now takes the place into the realm of fine dining, both for meat eaters AND vegetarians. I can't stay away.It's all too good. read more

Much needed live music venue in this area, run by a great friendly South African from Melbourne. Fun crowd, underground vibe, high quality bands. Love it! Atmosphere is unbeatable. Crazy decor, lots of seating, nice bar staff. Something different for a night out in Sydney. read more

Easily my favourite bar in Sydney. Young Henry's beer on tap and I've never seen a less-than-amaizing band play. Normally a $10 cover for the band at the door and always worth it. It's loud so not the best place for a chat but great for chilling out, beer and jazz/funk/soul/local/international-awseomness. read more

Pork sliders with crackling. Oh yeah. Avoid the olives wrapped in chicken - worst taste ever. Curly fries - good. Went here as a live venue event with a couple of friends. Was very well setup - tonnes of couches around and easy to access bar. They don't have credit card access, only an old school ATM in the corner. Friendly staff, though a little green at the moment. The live music was excellent, great acoustics, though not a lot of space to dance - perfect for listening up close and personal. Will be back. Will not order olives wrapped in chicken again. Ridiculously priced margarita and it was not that good, barman had an attitude and the worst nachos I have ever had. Who puts (so called) cheese sauce on a nachos. And even tho I have friends who play there live, it was like Karaoke night with an inexperienced singer jumping up to sing "Walking in Sunshine" Jazz club, really? My email of complaint was replied by a "manager" saying, "clearly I don't what I'm talking about......and he's happy I wont be back.....I wonder what the owner, Craig, would think about that. What a funky little bar with all the unexpected twists. African dishes menus at the bar, weird mannequins and explicit murals. Live music and lounge sittings, and finger food included in your cover charge. Staff are lovely, sitting next to you to explain menu and a good friendly crowd. I love the Lazy Bones and would definitely come back when I am in the area. read more

Tucked away in the heart of Marrickville is this awesome live music venue! The door staff are a bit... eclectic (for lack of a better word), but as you walk upstairs you will feel transported into another time. Comfy lounges, chandeliers, an antique looking bar... and of course live music. A few tips to ensure a great night: 1. Get there early to avoid cover charge (about $10 pp) and stake out a good lounge. 2. Make sure you research the bands on offer. Great Jazz Live music venue, staff pleasant and larger than life owner Craig in his usual spot at end of bar. Noticed it's their 2nd birthday this week. There is a soul food kitchen, I haven't had eaten from. But there's quite a menu, Larger performance space upstairs, long bar the length room. Quite a mix of music so checkout the list on Facebook. Sometimes whole orchestras play! The cooky violinist flutist is great! I like the small intimate level 1, usually start there and move up to the larger space. Oh my! What to say! Live Jazz! Now, I am not a fan of Jazz. However, it all fits in so well starting from the mural above the bar, the decorations, to the the furniture! I sat all the way at the back where the music was not too loud and I could still have a comprehensible conversation. There's an entry fee except, most likely, Wednesdays. When I went there, the 2nd floor (or the 1st) was empty so we directly got to the top level. It didn't appear the place to actually have food but just good drinks, snacks, music, and some quality couch time! read more

This is a pretty spectacular, chilled out, COOL-AS-FUCK space... doesn't get much more perfect than this. Sunday - Wednesday and Thursdayish, its pretty chilled out. Great place for a mellow drink and conversation with some great live music in the background. I hear Friday and Saturday are pretty full on, but I have never been on those nights. Haven't tried the food, but its probably good... of course, the draw for most here isn't the food, is it? A+++ all the way! read more

Eclectic art in an unusual space, we go on the occasional Sunday arvo for a family friendly jazz session. Plenty of comfy couches to sink into as you groove the afternoon away. read more

Great space, and the lighting and atmosphere are awesome. Sound is good but the wine by the glass or at least the Chardonnay is pretty average. Pretty good selection of food, and some vego options. read more

Accidentally turned up two hours early to see the band and instead of turning us away, the owner welcomed is in and made us at home. He gave us a history of the place and an insight into what he was planning on doing with it. The Riverside 77 on tap and the pizzas were great. Really looking forward to coming back read more

Stopped by on Friday night for some cocktails and to take in a live jazz band that was pretty decent. The cocktails are expensive....but if you've been in Australia, you will know cocktails are absurdly expensive virtually everywhere you go. Definitely north of $15 but average is $20-25/drink. Drinks were well made....the ambience is basement, dimly lit, small tables everywhere but nice adult crowd that is mature....25-50 on average, no doughy frat boy types pinching each other in the butt while knocking drinks and people to the ground because they're basically apes on alcohol. This was a very chilled but fun loving crowd that enjoys their drinks, the music and the company they have. Would recommend. read more

The Pizza was good but it took well over an hour from ordering to arrive. The manager is quite useless at solving seating and talks down to you. One female member of the bar staff slams down food and snatches plates without confirming your order or even glancing at you, super off putting. Other staff are friendly. read more
