    Delicious flan.
    Karen F.

I am on a roll of great eats and hidden gems. Located in what I consider to be nowhere (seriously, I re-routed my GPS twice thinking it couldn't possibly be correct), this delicious restaurant serving Filipino food clearly knows what they are doing. My friend and I arrived right when they opened. You order at the front counter, and I love that you can see all the food available, like a buffet, which is so helpful when ordering unfamiliar items. They have an every day combo special, which is your choice of two, smaller portion entrees, served with white rice and soda. For my entrees I ordered Chicken Adobo and Ginataang Sitaw and Kalabasa; a fancy name for shrimp curry with squash and green beans in coconut milk. The dining room is adjacent to the food counter with plenty of tables, and lots of fans around to help keep the room cooler. A woman was set up this Saturday morning performing live music - loudly - but pleasantly. The food was amazing, with my particular favorite being the chicken. The meat was so tender and juicy, you didn't even need a knife to cut it. And the sauce was not too thick, but not too watery. I also really enjoyed the curry - nice flavor, plus the shrimp were huge. Of course we split dessert. A flan, which was to die for. And a 3 layered rice cake gelled dessert called Sapin Sapin. This too was great, though the flan was better. All in all, so good, I can't wait to go back. Next on my list to try are the whole fried fish and the halo halo. And maybe a portion of Adobo togo.

Pork Adobo highly recommended And the vibes are great beautiful visuals Veronica was amazing she was very nice and attentive We will be back often

This Eats now move to permanent location. They use to only have food truck. Now the have restaurant front location next to port of Tampa. Love it. Since they move to the permanent location, their offer of the food choices also increases. Now they serve two meat or veggies combo dish for less than $15. I think this is a good choice. We got two combo and one a la carte. The two meat we have is the fried intestines chicharon, adobo chicken, braised pork belly, Bistek. I like braise pork belly. We got the fried pork belly as a la carte. Skin fried to crispy. Our desert is Sapin Sapin - three layers rice cake. Delicious and not too sweet. The combo also come with a drink. I like this air condition dinning hall. Love to eat there.

Manila Eats on 301 and Tucker Jones Rd in Riverview
    Karen V.

I'm kicking myself for not going to Manila Eats sooner. It's not exactly close to me, but it's close enough. It's a stationary food truck on Tucker Jones Rd in Riverview. The road is hidden off a stretch of Highway 301. It's just past Symmes Rd if you're heading south on 301. You'll miss that right turn at Tucker Jones if you're not paying attention to the road signs. You've gone too far if you find yourself near Rhodine Rd. There's plenty of parking. They have an outdoor patio with a large table and some bench seating. It's very popular! I've been there on a Thursday at opening time and didn't have to wait. It was super busy this past Friday after noon. It's probably best to call ahead and pick it up. They really do get slammed with orders. Also, keep in mind that they may close before 8:00 pm. They sell what they have until it's gone. They post their daily menu on their FB site and give updates to Manila Eaters when they are sold out. What I've had so far has been great. The lumpia is so reminiscent of what we would get from the wives club when stationed overseas. It also reminded us of our former neighbor who would occasionally bring them over to us after frying it up for her family. So delicious! They make Pork Adobo, but it's not a daily offering. It was great! It's meaty, saucy, and tasty. I also liked the Binagoongang Talong (eggplant with shrimp paste) which was good. It also had chunks of pork belly. The Lechon Kawali was super comforting and tasty. It's a very large portion that I shared with my husband. We both agreed that the lechon and the lumpia are very addicting. I think the only negative was the white rice served with the food. It was very plain. Maybe it's supposed to be that way, or I'm just use to making my own jasmine rice. This didn't taste like jasmine or basmati. I saved the best for last. The star of the show was the Halo Halo dessert. I tried it based off of a friend's recommendation. She was so right. It was amazing! It has so many different flavors all rolled into one dessert. I looked at interviews with Veronica (the owner) and was surprised to find out that she grows her own ube and makes her own ice cream. The leche flan in the dessert was so creamy. The caramelized plantain and sweet potato mixed with 2 different kinds of beans and jack fruit also added so much flavor. Wow! I honestly didn't think I would love it as much, but I do. I drank half of it on the way home in the car. The ice cream surprisingly held up because of the shaved ice around it. I'd go back a million times just for that. I do want to try other Filipino dishes. I wanted to try the Chicharon Bulaklak. I'm adventurous that way, but I can understand why the owner was hesitant to sell it to me. She kindly described it to my inner gringa self. I say that with laughter. I mean, it's a delicacy and she didn't think I would like it. She's probably right. Maybe she'll let me try it one day. Hahaha!

The goat caldereta is pretty tasty, with a slight salty kick. Not sure if it's a thing with Filipino cuisine, but it pairs well with rice. The sisig is tangy, so if you're not into porky flavors, consider other options. Sapin sapin is a coconut-flavored sticky and delightful glutinous rice pudding.

    Pancit palabok
    Rachel L.

My friend and I came here for the first time. It's a small place with limited outdoor seating but the food is good. I felt like the pancit palabok could have been better but my friend and I still enjoyed it. The lumpia could have been better as well. Less meat than normal and some bites were hollow with no meat at the ends. I ordered their special which was the Bulalo (beef shank soup). I got a cup of soup with corn and bok choy and no meat for $16. It was a bit of a letdown hence the lack of a picture. Halfway through I felt something was amiss so I went back and asked just to make sure if there was supposed to be meat... perhaps they forgot to scoop some in?? Turns out they forgot to give me a portion of beef to go with it. It ruined that first hunger/bite experience which was a huge disappointment initially but after getting the meat it was much better and more filling. I do recommend it... just make sure you get everything and check your food before you leave lol. I'd be interested in coming back to try their lechon.

Finally, Manila Eats turned into a brick and mortar store. It locates 1.4 miles south of Tampa IKEA. The food was very delicious. The combo meal deal let me pick two entree, one base-rice or noodle and pick one drink from the refrigerator for 14.99. I liked the fried noodle, chicken, and the Chicharon. They were big portion and very good. The sitting area was new, big and clean. In the glass display case, there are many delicious dessert options. The sapin sapin we had was good. The owner was nice and service was friendly. We don't live close but for their delicious food, it's worth the drive.

The food here was AMAZING I can't find one bad thing about it. This is a very nice building with what I would describe as cafeteria style food. Everything is already made you can see what you like and it comes with ALOT of rice. The person behind the counter was very nice, this was my first time and he was very patient. I wish I would have gotten some of the pork adobo because the sauce was amazing with the rice. Everything was cooked perfectly I also had Flan but didn't snap a picture but that was also amazing

    Mikenlyn C.

Stopped by on a Wednesday afternoon. Staff was friendly and food was delicious. The chicken adobo was full or flavor and so tender you can separate the meat with your spoon. The pork sinigang was flavorful too and meat was tender. The building has plenty of seating, is cool inside, and a nice space to enjoy your food. Would eat here again.

    Pork Adobo
    Sydnie H.

I'm so happy to have found this place! There were several things I wanted to try, but opted for the pork adobo and WOW. The meat was tender and flavorful and the portions were generous. This is one of my favorite dishes my grandmother would make for me and I'm so glad I know an authentic place to go to when I need my fix. I couldn't leave without trying their Halo Halo and it didn't disappoint. Loved the flan and ube ice cream on top! The staff + owners were extremely friendly as well and truly cared about each person's experience at their restaurant. I'll definitely be coming back.

    My L.

THIS IS A HIDDEN GEM! This place is a MUST TRY! The food is super delicious and the price is SUPER reasonable for the quality and quantity you get! I love their sour soup with the pork. Their service here is super friendly and welcoming. They welcome you with a smile on their faces and give you the best meal! And don't forget their dessert! The flan goes so well with their halo halo! So refreshing for the Florida summer! They make sure to fill as much fruits and jello for their halo halo! The atmosphere is also very homey. You feel like home coming here. There's plenty of tables and chairs for parties and to spend time with friends/family. Come on Sunday because it's KARAOKE Sunday! Must try if you're in the area! Highly highly recommended!

The dessert drink was absolutely delicious. I waited for the shaved ice to melt a little bit so I can drink some of it and all the little fruits in there and the beans were absolutely so fresh and I really love the Ube in there. I'm one of those type of people that like to custom my drinks and food so next time I would probably omit some of the fruits in there and either add extra Ube or extra ice cream or something like that if they allow it. The service was exceptional. The folks behind the counter were absolutely super sweet. I know they're Filipino, but I literally felt like I was in Hawaii. The service was so incredible. Like most other Filipino restaurants/cafe, there is a behind-the-counter, glass protected buffet at the forefront of the restaurant. From here, you can make your selections as you build your combination platter. The Filipiniana also offers a small section of baked goods and desert, while specializing in drinks such as Halo Halo and other Asian-curated beverages. Interesting to note that the Filipiniana offers catering in the kamayan style (simply put, a spread of various dishes over banana leaves to be shared by multiple people amd eaten with hands). However, they don't serve this in house/at the location - you will have to give advance notice (like with other caterers) to have this prepared. The Filipiniana is definitely a good spot to satiate your curiousity, explore, and discover Filipino cuisine!

**Sunda -- Asian Fusion (2nd visit)**…read more Went back to Sunda specifically for their limited-time Caviar Sunday, and it did not disappoint -- but let's start with the food that came before it. We opened with the **tiger shrimp tempura** -- candied walnuts and a creamy honey aioli. Smaller than I expected, roughly half-dollar sized, but tender, sweet, and generous in portion. The candied walnuts and honey aioli combo leaned sweeter than a classic honey walnut shrimp, with a little bang bang shrimp energy minus the spice. Trying to pace ourselves for dessert, we kept the rest light: the signature crispy rice (Wagyu and spicy tuna versions, split two apiece), The Great White (escolar), and the lemongrass beef lollipops. The Great White was well-balanced and delicious. The lemongrass beef -- sliced NY strip wrapped around a lemongrass stalk with ginger soy -- was solid but not a standout; the lemongrass flavor was subtle and the chili barely registered. Fair warning: it comes out well past medium-rare since it's wrapped and cooked that way, and the server didn't ask for a temperature preference. Good, but not something I'd reorder. The crispy rice was tasty but not a personal favorite -- the Wagyu and spicy tuna toppings themselves were great, just not sold on the crispy rice base. The standout of the savory round was the lobster Wagyu roll -- lobster and Wagyu tataki with a duck pâté aioli, sort of a surf-and-turf sushi roll. Pricier than the other rolls, but the combination justified it. Definitely ordering that again. **Now, the main event: Caviar Sunday.** Our server mentioned this particular caviar brand is a favorite of a certain pop star's, which was a fun detail. The tower itself was a showpiece -- diced and quartered dragon fruit, lychee, blueberries, crispy rice balls (first time trying those, loved them), plus passionfruit and ube sauces on the side. It came with turon (Filipino plantain egg rolls) and vanilla ice cream, essentially a build-your-own sundae kit with caviar mixed in. Caviar with ice cream sounded strange going in, but the salt-sweet balance worked. Genuinely unique, and I'd order it again without hesitation. It's not cheap, but it's roughly half the price of their standalone caviar entrée for the same amount of caviar -- so relatively speaking, it's the smarter way to get it. Service was excellent throughout -- good pacing suggestions so we didn't over-order before dessert, and when we couldn't finish the tower, our server packed the leftovers carefully on ice so we could enjoy round two at home. My one regret: ordering a double espresso with dessert. Good on its own, but it clashed with the tropical, ice cream-heavy flavors -- that one's on me, not the kitchen. Sunda remains a place I'll keep coming back to.

For parking it was easy as there's a parking building and also it was free. Our server was Germaine, very nice, but the biggest challenge with our night is that he seemed very busy with a lot of tables so everything took forever from getting the menu, to our drinks, to taking our order etc. The place is beautiful, where we sat tables were very close and it looked like a setup for speedating you can hear the Side table conversation, but it didn't bother us, the ambience was very nice. We had: Shishito peppers: great very well made Sunda cones: very good, very small, which server did tells us. One of them the tuna tasted a bit fishy, but the other ones were very good Island maki: very good Lobster wagyu : awesome To drink: we asked for a custom made drink with mezcal and tajin on the rim, but we got a drink that was too spicy with spicy salt on the rim, without letting us know takin was not available and took forever to come. The overall experience was 4 stars but at the end we ordered dessert on time, and after waiting about 25 minutes our server and manager came to tell us that the chef had shut down and didn't see our order. They adjusted check accordingly and got us another dessert but it was way too many things happening already. I appreciate Jacob de manager who came to talk to us directly that was very professional, but definitely an opportunity to improve for next time. Dining out is an experience, and all details should come together to enhance the flavors in the palate, service, ambience and taste.

The customer service was exceptional--the staff was incredibly warm and welcoming, and they were quick to get the food out. Everything served was piping hot and absolutely delicious. The service, was fast food centric and of course they messed up the order and forgot the icy. Oh well. My chicken was passable (I got spicy) but the regular chicken was gross and the guys refused to finish it. The yum burger tastes ultra processed (but still a step up from Whitecastle), the spaghetti was interesting with a banana sweetened ketchup sauce overtop that was slightly unique. The palabok was the most interesting, but somehow also tasted fast foodish and not "fresh". Jollibee's must taste better in other countries? This is our second time trying and every time we leave poorer, disappointed, and with a slight stomachache. Def felt less "jolly" after eating here. No thank you.
