Had everything we needed in a great location. Only bad thing was the California prices but nothing the shop could do about that

The last time I came here was years ago (despite it being the closest grocery store to my house)…read moredue to the fact that it was absolutely, inexcusably awful in every category. I've been driving the extra distance to Trader Joe's ever since to do all my food shopping and have been really happy...but tonight I needed a few small things and Trader Joe's was close to closing time, so I rolled the dice and gave Ralph's another chance due to a closer proximity, later hours and the hopes that in all this time some improvements may have been made. I was so wrong; and the decision was a monumental mistake. There isn't a single category where Ralph's is even competitive with TJ's. The organic product quality was literally disgusting and I had to opt to just forego buying two of the items I needed. The bakery item I purchased (cake) was stale, loaded with chemicals, and left a strange film and aftertaste in my mouth to the point I couldn't even finish it. The employees are stressed out and spread thin due to insane understaffing (one poor unfortunate soul sweating & doing their best to man the only open register) Ralph's prices are much, much higher for worse quality and smaller portions. The only thing that seemed like it was a good deal was Kombuchas on sale...but once I got to the counter learned the price shown on the shelf required the downloading of an app, the linking of online accounts to other accounts, and an incredibly confusing time-consuming process that in the end GLITCHED and didn't even work! Long story short, I will be making sure to leave earlier and drive the extra miles to continue to go to Trader Joe's instead.

Was working in the area and looking for some lunch to pick-up and bring to my cousin's office…read morenearby and she suggested Bristol Farms sandwiches and cookie. Pretty sure this is my first time setting foot inside a Bristol Farms and did not realize it's a store. Went to the deli section and decided to try the Chimichurri sandwich with roast beef. Eric helped me out and he was really nice and also helpful. He physically went and grabbed the different bread options and showed them to me, without me asking, which I found really helpful instead of just telling me the types of bread. I went with the Ciabatta bread and he made my order. I text my cousin what kind of chips and drink she wanted while I waited and pulled those as it took a few minutes for him to prep both sandwiches. He then asked what toppings I'd like and I went with arugula (I heard someone say arugula and decided to go with it), red onion and sun dried tomatoes. Picked up a peanut butter cookie and their original cookie and took it to my cousin's office. She said it was the best sandwich ever and I agree! I had no expectations and randomly chose that sandwich and would get it again. They don't skimp on the meat, the meat is super tasty and I ate half my sandwich right away and the other half 4 hours later and it tasted even better after 4 hours. The cookies were good, but they're YUGE! I could only eat a small piece of both cookies. The peanut butter was good but kind of crumbly and would fall apart. I pulled off a piece of the original cookie and it was packed with chocolate chips and it was so rich. I think next time I'd order one cookie and eat half of it and give the other half away. Inside the store it's like a dream. Super clean, fresh, the employees are super nice and there's a self check-out and a regular check-out stand. The guys in the deli are all really attentive with everyone and seem like a tight knit group. Next time I'm in the area I'm definitely getting lunch here.

Wanted to try some of their prepared foods to compare to Whole foods…read more 1. Mushroom soup: not a lot of flavor 2. Baked french toast: Got this because it looked pretty popular by the look of how much was already taken. Can see why it's popular. 3. Mushroom egg souffle: it's okay. the edges are too rubbery. 4. Pepperoni pizza: not great. Dry. 5. Regular and spicy pokey: spicy and a bit too salty. I think it's hotter than the poke at Jus Poke. The regular one is not overly salted compared to Gelson's which was way too salty. Not sure if I'd come back to try other items in the hot deli but maybe other pastries and the poke.

I remember falling in love with the produce department because having access to radicchio, endive, watercress, sorrel, heirloom tomatoes (before they became crummy), morel mushrooms and Crenshaw melons was cooler than ice cream at the north pole. My tiny kitchen became my creative space for some tasty meals and to wow my friends. I had my share of failures too, but they only inspired me to keep trying. This Gelson's has been open for quite a while but it's a longer drive from my house by maybe 4 or 6 minutes. That time isn't a deal breaker, it's a convenience thing. It's Gelsons, in Manhattan Beach. You won't find amazing prices here, but you will find some of the best, quality, unique and prime groceries, products and items you never knew you needed. There's a price for this and if you're sensitive, you might be better served at another grocery store. Service was friendly and straightforward. I didn't have to circle the parking lot for a space or squeeze into one meant for a tiny car. Carts were packed full and easily accessible. Shelves stocked full, bakery packed with colorful sweets likely to satisfy anyone's palate and a deli, complete with pre-made packaged delights to make your meal prep easy peasy. Gelson's is in my rotation, especially when I need something special...or even when I don't.
