Came here today for the first time. I was worki mg at a gallery and had a break and needed food. I walked over and was promptly greeted. The person was on the phone and told me just as second. She actually ended up putting the person on hold to take my togo order. I ordered the mango chicken, veggie biryani, garlic naan. I was going to order another plain naan but was informed that one came with my mango curry bowl. It took about 15 mins to get my order. I walked back to the gallery and could smell the deliciousness inside. Pulled out the food and it looked so tasty. The mango chicken curry with rice wasn't overly spicy. I got a three. You could taste all the ingredients really well. The chicken was well cooked and flavorful in the sauce. The rice was really good with it. Or you could just use the naan bread and be happy. The biryani was stocked with veggies and very flavorful. It had some heat behind it but not too much. The person I was splitting with it, that was her favorite. The naan hot chewy and stacked with flavor the garlic one had a lot of garlic and so good. It was a lot of food for two people we could have split one and been fine but having multiple meant delicious leftovers. Which I am always a fan of. It was all perfect for the cold cold day that we were having here. I would definitely go again. I want to try more things and explore the menu more. The service even though it was a Togo was so sweet and when they saw I was walking offered me a bigger bag with handles that I really appreciated. It made it so much easier to walk in the snow and ice rather than juggling a bag that was hard to hold. One of the better restaurants I dined at during my stay in Spokane. My waiter was pretty cool and recommended the Karahi curry with lamb, mushroom rice and some naan. Great suggestions and will definitely order again. Samosas were pretty good too. My waiter was even intuitive enough to see I barely touched the Taj Mahal beer I ordered and he didn't charge me for it. In truth, my stomach was a little upset from downing the mango lassi so fast but I was also a little hungover from the night before. I don't think yogurt and hangovers are a good combo. Overall, I'd definitely come back to eat at this spot on my next visit to Spokane. Updated review- tried it again and I'm happy to say that I had a much better experience this time. I had the Tikka Masala with veggies and it was flavorful with rich spices. I no longer eat gluten so I didn't try the naan but it looked to be cooked correctly and wasn't soaked in that oil. My dinner partner had the Mango curry and it had nice flavor as well, she enjoyed the naan and was surprised how much came with the meal. Much better experience overall! read more

Every single "To Go" order I've made has something missing and wrong. Maybe if the kitchen would label their containers the service staff could double check the order. I make my order directly through the restaurant, so I am not sure why there is such a consistent miscommunication. (not receiving the requested meats with dishes, paying for upgrades to rice or naan and getting plain anyway) Spice levels vary GREATLY so if you're spicy intolerant order a lower number just to be safe. They use a scale of 0-5. Half my group couldn't eat 4/6 of the entrees we'd ordered, which for a meal that costs over $120 is unacceptable IMO Rice comes in awkward shell style styrofoam to go containers Food is consistently good, and a great introduction to Indian food for picky westerners (unless they forget the spice level requests). Not the best Indian food in Spokane by far, but a crowd pleaser. Overall, it's pretty spendy and if you are in search of authentic delicious Indian food I believe there are tastier, less hectic, and cheaper options. read more

This was a birthday lunch after Comicon, and it was selected by my oldest birthday girl daughter. This was my second time here, and I really don't anticipate another visit. I don't know why ethnic cuisine restaurants in the Spokane area insist on adding tons of sugar to all their sauces, but this place would win an award from the cane sugar producers of the world. I came to try the butter chicken poutine as I have never seen that before. It was fun to try, but not for me. The butter chicken sauce was much sweeter than I'm used to. There was also a higher French fry ratio to chicken. I felt like there wasn't much chicken. Then the fries get soggy with the sauce on them. Fun idea. Great service. read more

We ordered rather a lot take-out food for four - we love Indian leftovers - and the food itself was a solid 4-stars, maybe even 5 stars. The food a was excellent - the coconut naan deserves a special call-out - and the spice level was appropriate to the 'levels' we ordered. As a plus, it was very thoughtfully packaged in separate containers with plastic wrap to prevent messy spills on the way home. (With one very minor exception that they wrapped the plain naan and the garlic naan together although I would assume for anyone ordering Indian food a tiny bit of crossover garlic isn't really a problem). The pricing, however, was 14% higher* than advertised on their website. "Lots of places have increased prices" one might say. But think about this: the correct prices are shown on their nicely-printed full-color menus which would take at least a WEEK to edit and re-print and are not cheap to produce. But the website - which would require at most 20 MINUTES to update all the prices - still reflects the older, lower pricing. Because it is so fast and easy to update an ONLINE menu on one's own website, my unfavorable impression was that leaving the incorrect/lower pricing online is intentional ... bait and switch, so to speak. (They have invested in a nice website, with an outside design agency as named on their website, so it could have been updated with a single "here's our new prices" email. While they are at it, they also need to prominently display their hours of operation on their website.) It's really a shame to sully an otherwise excellent impression by creating a non-trivial "pricing surprise". * Our order of 11 items totaled $150 before tax. The online menu said it would be $132. So the actual price was 13.6% higher than advertised online. read more

We were a big group of 25 people including kids. Few kids ordered mango lassi and then looking at that a few more kids asked. When we tried to order more lassi the person waiting the table straight forward said it's making me angry when you order again. I am all alone and I can't accommodate requests like this. We felt it was pretty rude to say that. Lamb chops were under cooked and food was pretty bland. The only good part was flatbreads and fries which the kids loved. I don't usually have an Indian restaurant in my rotation of take out but this one definitely makes the list. Highly recommend to anyone even if you don't usually eat Indian cuisine. This place is very understaffed, at least during the week because there was one maybe two servers playing all the front roles, hostess, buzzer and waitress. It looked like we missed a rush because there was at least 5 tables that needed to be cleaned up. The server asked us to wait a few minutes and that ended up being 15-20 minutes later before we were actually seated. Not exactly something you'd expect when the restaurant is 3/4 empty and they are focused on cleaning. Leave the dirty tables and focus on taking care of the people that are there. The food did have some good flavors and similar to all other Indian restaurants. I did find a new curry, the palak that was surprisingly tasty. Naan bread was okay, might have been sitting out for awhile because part of the slices were hard so you really needed to soak it with the sauce. read more

When the desk clerk at our downtown hotel suggested Mango Tree and described it as the "best Indian food" he'd ever eaten, I was skeptical. First visit to Spokane...hadn't put Indian food on the list of to-dos. Well color us gobsmacked: best Indian food we've ever had, anywhere. There's not much to speak of in the way of ambiance, and though the menu was appealing, I didn't expect much...we did ask the advice of our helpful server (we followed her advice and chose vindaloo over tikka masala). And that meal...my god, that meal... We started with an order of the spinach dip (the least Indian-y thing we ordered and it's a great appy) + the aloo tikki chickpea patties which were insanely tasty. Then we ordered a creamy, mind-blowing dal makhani and prawn vindaloo, medium-spicy. It was way more food than 2 of us needed, but we toted the leftovers home in our cooler and gobbled them later. This was right across from my hotel and I was STARVING and needed something quick to eat and I discovered this place. I came during lunch and there were a few other occupied tables (always a good sign). I was seated and ordered the Butter chicken bowl which came with rice and naan bread (I upgraded to garlic naan). I ordered spice level 4 and it wasn't as spicy as I hoped it would be. It had a little kick but no where near a true level 4 spice. The server was great and attentive and continued to check on me during my time here. We probably reached this restaurant at a bad time (around 5 pm on a Saturday ) when they were overwhelmed and the whole place seemed to be in a chaos. The place was mismanaged and they were messing up to-go orders. We opted for dine in as we were on a road trip from Montana back to California, and the host was very rude and offered us a seat in the middle of the restaurant even though most seats were empty at this time. We asked if we could sit in the corner and she went on and on about we could do that only if we promised to eat and leave right away and not lounge around..lol..anyway.. they forgot to bring our appetizer amid the chaos and we sat there watching people who came after us getting their food . there was no hand soap in the women's restroom which was a big red flag , during covid and definitely makes me question the hygiene here. To end on a bad note, we asked for a coffee to go as we still had several more hours of driving to do, and we were given coffee in a coke cup with a straw??? why not just say you can't do togo coffee and we would go elsewhere.. And conveniently located near highway whcih makes it a nice stopping point for a road trip if you're going in that direction. The staff is super nice and welcoming. Honestly the best dinner spot in Spokane. Not only is everything basically $15, but EVERY meal you get is basically two. I can EAT but can never finish a full meal, especially with their buttery naan bread... I'm eating it and can't wait until I can go again. This is a great local spot in Spokane if you are craving Indian food. I got the Indian fries and the chicken tikka masala plate. Indian Fries - These are your normal french fires in a chaat form. They add cilantro, onions, tomatoes, jalapenos and 1/4 of an olive(seriously, skimping on that) and some tamarind chutney. Tastes yum! Chicken Tikka Masala Bowl - Great value - comes with rice and naan. Good enough for 2 moderately hungry people and tastes great too. Visited Spokane for business and happened upon this Indian spot that was right down the street. Service was excellent and the hostess at the front was super nice. Ordered the Beef Korma with Mango Rice and Cheese Naan and was blown away. Everything went together so well and the flavors were excellent. The cheese in the naan was melty and gooey like a quesadilla. The Korma is as creamy and flavorful and the addition of beef was a welcome surprise as you usually can't even get beef with Indian food. Mango rice was a little sweet, but paired well with the Korma. Wish I could've eaten the whole meal, but the portion was way too much so expect a lot of food! I was visiting Spokane and decided to try it when I saw a picture and other reviews of the Biryani. I am on a lifelong quest to find the best chicken Biryani, I find it done poorly most places with a little seasoning and mostly white colored rice. Not here! I have never used the word bombastic but that's what the flavor was! Deep, rich colors and seasonings in the rice tells me it was treated well and cooked for the right amount of time. Chicken pieces were very tender. Had I known how good this was I would have ordered three and taken them home on the plane with me. We also ordered chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. The chicken was ok, a bit on the tomatoey side which reminded me a lot more of marinara than a curry sauce. The bread didn't really look or feel like tandoori naan, more like a flat bread with no puffs or bubbles. It tasted good (especially with the garlic oil) but wasn't very authentic. All in all I'm coming back for the Biryani, and I'd try other stuff again too. read more

Both locations offer the same menu, though my experience has been that the north location is slightly better. We were looking for a place to eat when we found right outside of our hotel, Mango Tree. Didn't know what type of restaurant it was until we went inside where we discovered it was an Indian restaurant. It didn't seem so busy but we still had a wait of about 10-15 mins since they were short-staffed, a problem we noticed at other establishments in Spokane. While it didn't seem busy inside it must be popular as there was a constant flow of customers coming in to pick up food, or maybe Door Dash and Uber Eats orders. I ordered the Tikka Masala and the food was delish! It's a great Indian restaurant with good pricing, good service as well except for the wait. The first thing I noticed walking in was the waft of Indian spices permiating the air. To me, this is a good omen of any Indian restaurant. We tried the chicken Jalfrazi and beef Karahi, each with a level 2 spice. The karahi was incredibly savory and the jalfrazi was bursting with flavor. The 2 spice level was perfect: spicy but not uncomfortably so. The rice had great flavor on its own but tasted better mixed with the curry. The mango lassi was fruity and sweet without being overwhelming. It complemented our dishes very well. The Indian coffee was sweet with a hint of cardamom. The servers were polite and prompt, however they did seem to be in a rush juggling all the take-out and dine-in guests, which is not their fault. The music was fun and at a good volume. The decor was simple and welcoming. I really enjoyed the light fixture that you see when you first walk in. The less positive: the naan was a little chewy. I also witnessed the servers buss a table by using their arm to wipe the rice left behind by the previous guests but I did not see them use any kind of rag to sanitize the table.
