My boyfriend and I wanted a date night locally, and I saw this location is top rated, so we gave it a try! We were able to make last-minute reservations for a Saturday night no problem. For appetizers we had the bread service and polpette. The bread was just okay, but the polpette was amazing! For entrees, I had the carbonara and my boyfriend had the prosciutto pizza. The carbonara was excellent, but the prosciutto pizza wasn't good. Not a lot of flavor. My boyfriend had two (little) slices, and had enough. Unfortunately, it didn't seem of much concern to our waitress who just said "sorry about that" when we told her it wasn't good. Making him something else or offering a discount would've been appreciated. The service was also pretty slow. I would try here again, but my boyfriend doesn't want to. I never knew Oceanside had real Italian food until we went to Mangia e Bevi...from the moment we walked in we were greeted by Barbie, I believe who was robust and fun, it was off the charts fantastic, the charcuterie board was insane, gorgeous and had everything on it including prosciutto, blue cheese, soft cheeses, nuts everything and was served on a real cutting board. Then came dinner, my eggplant was real Italian, their noodles were on handmade pasta and the birthday cannoli was the best I've ever had and complimentary complete with a candle for the birthday girl. Oceanside needed real Italian and this is it and did I mention Wednesday is Wine Wednesday, half of all wines. I'll be back but they also offer to go too. Let me begin by saying the pizza was excellent, no problems here. So why three stars? We ordered calamari fritti, and they were rubbery and not tender. Also, the flour coating easily fell off (which does not happen when the calamari are fresh, floured on the spot, and then cooked - though we don't know the reason, the fact remains that our calamari fritti were not tender and all the coating all separated and crumbled off which is unusual and shouldn't happen). Secondly, the prices of the wine bottles seemed high, the least expensive being $55 or more (for a red wine). While there is no problem offering some higher priced wines for those of higher quality, there is no reason an Italian restaurant cannot offer a wine that is reasonably good quality (e.g., a "house wine") in the $30-40 range, as most other restaurants of this type offer (especially if you mainly go for pizza). Having said this, the pizzas were truly excellent, and we hope the restaurant will consider the other points. read more

Salmon is probably soaked in salt water. Too salty to eat. Don't order the salmon. I can tolerate a lot of salt. Inedible. The owner of the business responded and said they do not soak the salmon in saltwater. It was not my taste alone that found it too salty and inedible. Two other people at the table, tasted it. I am merely providing feedback based on years and years of eating salmon at restaurants. I've had fish everywhere. This was the first piece of fish that was so salty no one could eat it. That is all I'm saying. Everyone enjoyed their entrées. Just order something else. read more

This place is a very nice study with both indoor and outdoor seating. Our waitress was extremely friendly. There is also plenty of parking. I ordered the dates and bread as an appetizer. The dates were a lunch special stuffed with goat cheese and topped with pistachios and honey. it was very good, but the amount of goat cheese was a bit overpowering. I would have liked to order a pesto pasta dish, but that was not on the venue. I was looking for something a little lighter. I ended up ordering the chicken, which was OK. It was two thinner, sliced pieces that weren't that juicy. The sauce was really good, but it was still on the heavier side. Very cream based. Despite all the good reviews & pictures this place has, we were disappointed with both the food portions, as well as the unprofessional behavior of the owner, towards his employees. Our server was new, so when we asked a question they didn't know, the server asked the owner/manager that question. But instead of answering the question, the owner berated her out loud in front of everyone, for not knowing everything, just after a few days on the job. His loud tirade was rude, unprofessional, and very toxic. This shouldn't have happened at all, but if it did, it should have been handled privately... NOT yelling at an employee in front of customers is wrong. The food portions were also disappointingly small. Why serve an artichoke if there isn't any meat/flesh on it? Also, if you have to smother everything in sauces, it usually means you're covering up the lack of quality. However, the sauces themselves were quite good, as were the calamari and tortellini dishes. As far as I could tell, everything is made fresh here. Fresh bread. Fresh pizza in a pizza oven directly inside the front entrance. Fresh pasta. Fresh sauces. First, use your Yelp check-in for the pane (bread service). It's fresh, straight out of the oven rosemary/olive bread, and it's delicious and free with your check-in. Do it. The burrata is an outstanding appetizer. It's breaded and fried and served in a fresh tomato sauce. It's terrific. We didn't try any pizzas but pretty much every other table did so we will definitely try one next time. They looked outstanding. We had the chicken ravioli in browned butter with butternut squash and it was melt-in-your-mouth fantastic. The Vongole--squid ink pasta with clams in a lemon butter sauce--is also a very solid and delicious choice. Gelato for dessert was also a winner. The flavor during our visit was salted caramel and you get a huge portion with whipped cream on top. It's wonderful. Service was perfect. The entire staff was very attentive and friendly.
