Very pleasant, spacious, comfortable and clean. Wasn't too busy so would have liked the servers a little more attentive. Food was very good. Creature of habit, I always order orange chicken wherever I go. I was surprised to get Mandarin's take. Most placed toss the chicken in the sauce. This time it was poured over the chicken. I've had lemon chicken like this and am usually not a fan because it is usually over sauced and too sweet. Not the case here. It was a very tasty sauce and just the right amount. The rice was perfectly cooked as well. Only downer was the table next to me. This is the best sit down Chinese I have found in middle GA. The menu is HUGE, so it's a great choice if you have a lot of picky eaters, including vegetarians. I have been here on a date and with a group of over 12, and with other groups in between. The layout is really good for handling groups of all sizes. It's definitely a little pricier at night, but on par with most Chinese restaurants. So if you want to try it and save some money I recommend you start with lunch. The standout dish for me is the bbq pork ribs. They are seriously the best ribs I have found in Macon. I also recommend their wonton soup; it is better than average. read more

Pleasantly surprised! It was our first visit and we had the Mandarin Dinner for 2. Our server asked if it was our first time and upon learning we just moved to Macon, gave us background on the restaurant and also the town. The food and service were both outstanding! I love this place. The service is great and the portions are very generous. I've been eating here since it opened and it's always delicious. I especially love their lunch specials. They include a spring roll, choice of hot sour or egg drop soup, and a chicken wing with your entree. I always go for the hot sour soup. It's amazing. I've seen some reviewers comment negatively on the General Tso's chicken. I order it almost exclusively and it's never let me down. Once it didn't come out with enough sauce so I asked for more. I want to preface this with I love the food and service at the Mandarin, I have for the past 20+ years. But it seems within the last few months they have added MSG to their dishes to which my husband is significantly allergic and it seems that at least in the quantity they are using in their dishes I'm having a reaction. My Mom used to use it her cooking when I was a kid and even with having migraines it didn't trigger migraines. However, after eating at the Mandarin, I had a reaction severe enough to cause hallucinations, racing heart, body aches, and a migraine. Yes, my husband also reacted. So word to the wise, if you think you are sensitive to MSG, stay away or see if they can make an MSG free dish. read more

This is a place to go for standard Chinese food. Always get to go orders, maybe it's better to eat there...I just don't understand all the 5 star reviews. We try to stop by this restaurant when we pass through leaving Atlanta or going to Atlanta from our place on the coast. The fare is the sit down in elegant Chinese dining tables and chairs expecting the copious amounts of traditional pork, seafood, chicken, and beef dishes we boomers had in the past; and, you are not disappointed! The food was greasy and too salty. I will not recommend this place for anyone. The orange chicken didn't taste fresh and the egg rolls was greasy. The interior design was great and colorful. My husband and I had high hopes for the Mandarin based on the other reviews, and drove up from Warner Robins to give it a try. We ordered egg rolls and gyoza for an appetizer. Both had very thick, tough wrappers. The eggrolls were filled with unseasoned meat and a lot of cabbage, and the gyoza with unseasoned ground meat. For an entree I ordered mu shu chicken and my husband got garlic chicken. Mine was ok-pretty much just tasted like hoisin sauce and my chicken had a lot of gristle. Garlic chicken was bland and didn't taste at all like garlic. What flavor it did have was kind of weird, couldn't really place it. Service was ok. Our waitress was friendly but seemed either overextended or distracted, we waited a long time for everything. Decor is nice, if a bit over the top. Overall we were very disappointed and won't be back. read more

Very good Chinese food and the best in Macon. The woman who is often at the front entry is so nice. We always get the Pork fried rice and the Beef lo mein. The only complaint that I may have is that they give you a lot of the pork and the beef in those dishes - and I mean, a lot. Most people would probably prefer that though. read more

It's not a buffet so the server is bringing the food from the kitchen vice fixing a plate at buffet which I see a lot around here. Quality and value has declined considerably. Cashew chicken had very few cashews, and was about 50% white onions as a filler. When the owner was asked about this, she indicated that they don't put in many cashews. If ordering takeout you get short changed since the salad and desert are not included as they are for dine-in at the same pricing. Food is always delicious and fast. Friendly service. Mongolian beef and princess prawns are addictive. Some Chinese places serve a lot of chewy "mystery meat" but I find they have good quality white meat chicken dishes and better quality beef than most all others. This place has the nicest interior design of any Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. Despite the fact that their front door is broken and there seems to be no desire to repair it, the inside is amazing. Its inspiration comes from the design of the emperors' palaces in ancient China. The Chinese watercolor art on glass dividers and a dark ambient atmosphere with classical Chinese music playing throughout the restaurant will make any customer wonder why he or she would ever contemplate eating at another Chinese restaurant in Macon. Their portions are huge and the price is reasonable. I ordered to Ma Po Tofu, a traditional Chinese dish, and it was hmm hmm good. Spicy tofu with tiny chunks of beef smothered in onions, it is Chinese home cookin at an outside restaurant. The importance of Ma Po Tofu is obviously the tofu. It is important that the tofu has the right firmness so it would not fall apart as soon as you dig into it. No such problem here! They use fine quality tofu here, and they know how to prepare it. There was so much food I had to split it between 3 meals! I took a star off, however, because you need to skip the egg rolls. The seasoning is bland. The roll was not fried right. It was not crunchy. I was chewing on it like rubber. Overall, great restaurant. I will definitely be coming back again. read more

The food we experienced here was just not a good experience. We stopped here on a whim looking to try a new place. I'll start with the positives. The hostess was polite and promptly took our order. It's also elaborately decorated nice inside. However the food component of our stop was lacking. The rice we ordered was excessively greasy. The lemon pepper wings weren't cooked that well and lacked in lemon pepper flavor. We also tried their steamed wontons. The dough was a bit thick and the meat inside was flavorless. Awful. General tso's tasted like old, hard, crunchy chicken from kfc half covered with syrup. The princess prawns still had the tails on the shrimp. No veggies in the mix. We ordered the special for 5 people... every dish was great... the soup... moo shoo pork... rice... all 5 were great... we got there at about 6:30pm and were having a great time and left around 9:30pm... ready to go back no nor return to Macon. read more

I highly recommend this place. It's the only place I'll go when I want sweet and sour chicken. The food and the service are excellent.

My husband and I stopped by to pick up dinner for our family. We expected to wait, even 30 or 40 minutes because we didn't call but ordered take-out at the front desk, when we arrived. After ordering, we were told 15-20 minutes. An hour later and after three other people came in and ordered and left with their food, we asked what was taking so long. The lady apologized but CORRECTED us, saying it hadn't been that long. I said no, it has. I know exactly when we arrived because I had called my sister to tell her how long we thought it would be. It's now been over an hour. 10 more minutes later, out food comes out, leaking. It's getting on us, the staff, and the counter. They take it back again. Another customer comes up and says he's beeen waiting on his food for over an hour. At no point do these people try to correct the problem or credit us for what we ordered. An hour and half later, we finally leave. My husband and I have both worked in the food industry, everyone has off days but you never tell you're customers they're wrong and you never treat people the way we were treated. read more
