I'm going to go out on a limb here and give them four stars. I will be reviewing them again and may support that or not.
Great location for a restaurant, extensive menu both regular and lunch and surprisingly clean at the end of the day. If the outside where customers are is clean, the back can't be too far off. If the outside is fairly dirty, what does that say about areas you can't see?
I feel like their main problem is the location. If they had to pick a location in this shopping center for an eating establishment, this is the prime location as it's the corner spot. But, is it the best location for a restaurant starting out? This shopping center, across from the Gray highway Walmart is very clean and kept up but it's below the street level and unless you go down that ramp, you will not know what's awaiting you, good or bad. In this case, I can only say good.
They have an extensive menu. The eating area was very clean for the time that I visited which was close to the end of their business day. That means either they keep it up or don't have a lot of business. It's hard to tell at that time of day.
The way it's designed, it's possible to see all the way back into the cooking area. While it's not designed to be chiefs on display, I believe that this gives the customer a greater view of what's going on in the kitchen and an incentive to keep a more tidy establishment.
The only real fault I see with this place was the drink machine. It really wasn't dirty where you'd fill a drink but the back splash could have used a cleaning. For that time of day, the tables were clean--non sticky--the floor was clean and everything looked good. However, I did not visit the rest room which is one indicator of good or bad housekeeping.
I ordered shrimp egg foo yung. I've found that either restaurants make this very well or very badly. There's no in between with this dish. Others may wish to differ, but this is my opinion and review.
Initially, I thought it a bit pricey but when I got the order, I got more than I ever would at anything with cheaper rates. The shrimp were large and plentiful. Other places may just toss in a few cocktail size shrimps and be done with it.
I really liked the way this dish was shaped, almost like a flying saucer with the center being fuller. The dish came with plenty of sauce and the fried rice was acceptable.
I ordered a shrimp roll to go with it. From the look of it, it was handmade and not something that came from the warehouse prefrozen. For that roll, it was $1.29, which wasn't bad.
That means for around ten bucks per person you can get more than you can eat and it's not going to be wasted or tossed out later in the trash. I found this dish very tasty and the cook knowledgeable in how to prepare it.
I will visit back again and do an update pro or con, accordingly. But, from what I've seen so far, this is a hidden treasure in Macon. Good food, good price, clean, polite and treating customers like repeat business and not like some downtown places that treat customers like highway one-timers. read more
