Everything you can ask for in a Chinese takeout place. Both the quality AND quantity of the food I ordered was superb. Food tasted great and the amount of rice that comes in the dinner plate is pretty epic. See, to me this is a place that just seems to get a simple philosophy; give generous portions and word will spread that you give generous portions. That's how you keep customers coming back. The stingy restaurants just don't seem to get that I guess. Couldn't give it 5 star rating being as the service kind of crappy; but for a takeout joint, as long as the food tastes good and you give me lots of it, I really don't care as much about your people skills. read more

Mediocrity at its absolute best, and I mean that in a good way. If you want a culinary masterpiece, go somewhere else. Mandarin is perfect for your classic Chinese food staples. The General Gau's Chicken was up to par, the rice wasn't bad, and the crab Rangoon's were pretty good too. Did I mention the dinner plate came with about 3 pounds of the aforementioned food? Because it does. On top of the generous portions, the Mandarin is equally gregarious with the amount of liquor they give you in their many fruity tropical drinks. The Mai-tai had a lot more rum and a lot less pineapple juice than your average restaurant or bar. In all, this food is up to snuff but nothing that comes close to extraordinary. Combine with good portions, good drinks, and speedy service and you have a great quick bite, casual dinner, or pre-bar night location. read more

I live nearby and have tried this place a few times. Every time I call, the girl that answers the phone is so rude to us. We were trying to find the item number we wanted to order and we weren't fast enough, so she yelled at us and hung up. Another time we wanted to add on to an order and couldn't give the phone number fast enough so she hung up on my husband. I don't know what their problem is. The food is average and inconsistent. Some days you get a mound of noodles, some days it's not as full. The Beef Lo mein has 4 pieces of beef and nothing else in it. The chicken wings and spare ribs are always dry. The Kung Pao Chicken is bland. There is nothing there that I love. I'll never eat here again! They treat you so bad here and the food isn't even that good. read more

Been going to Mandarin Lowell for years but ever since the new owner took over a couple years ago things went downhill. Food is tasty and reasonably priced, but...they will not put the heat on in the winter nor the a/c in the summer. Uncomfortable dining with your coat on and even the wait staff wear their coats. When asked to turn the heat on they speak to each other in Mandarin but get no results. (Probably complaining about us.)The final straw was a recent night there and when finished we told the waiter we will bring the leftovers home. To our surprise we opened the containers when we got home and most of our food was missing! Did they think we wouldn't notice that they only packaged one chicken finger, two boneless ribs, etc when we had much more than that left? They can not be trusted so we will not be returning. read more

Update: Gotten food from here several times now. I'm always impressed with how fresh and hot the food is. Best place for Chinese takeout I've found in the area! We got takeout from here last week and were quite impressed with the food. It was very fresh-tasting and was ready in about 15 minutes. We ordered at the restaurant which was very busy (at 7:00pm on a Friday), and it took a couple of minutes for someone to come over to take our order. It was also a bit loud, which I suppose is to be expected since it is a fairly small restaurant with a bar and table service. I look forward to getting food from them again. read more

An experience that was pretty funny. The place is a little bigger than a shed, for people who like to go on an adventure you should try it out. When we went, there was a woman who was randomly singing (mind you, there's 2 big screen TVs playing sports but that didn't stop her). I have been going here for years, since they opened going on almost 20 years now. Great food and their service is on point. Needs some amazing noodles with veggies, meat, and shrimp? You should definitely put the Shanghai Panfried Noodles on your list of things to try, also if you are Crab Rangoon fan- this is the place to get them, they are the best! I ordered and has eaten there on several occasions. The place is okay, pretty small because they divided the place to be half bar and half restaurant. I feel this place is a hit or miss. At times, my order is very SALTY as in the case for today order !!! And other times, it good but very greasy even if you order the light version from the menu!!!! For the most part, it was decent, the food was hot and okay, service was a little on the slow side but it manageable. As for take out order, it appears to be okay also. Food was hot and service was a little faster than the in take order. We have never had anything but a great meal here! This is our go to! Even when my baby melted down, they were quick to package our order (at our request) and get us out the door so we could get him home! Food is good, prices are reasonable, and staff is always nice. I didnt know what to expect from this place since it was my first time. The first thing I realize was that there were so many people at the bar having fun. The staffs there were EXTRA friendly. I love that about people, how they could actually enjoy their work and make others happy. We ordered orange chicken entree and ginger/scallion lobster. Crab rangoon was on the side. Wow, one bite into the rangoon, it was soo crispy! I love how I could actually taste the cream cheese and onion together. Probably the best crab rangoon I've ever tasted except the ones I make at home lol. The lobster was pretty good, didn't have a strong taste of ginger/scallion but usually this never goes wrong. However, the orange chicken tasted a bit funky. I've never had orange chicken tasting like this. Is this how genuine orange chicken suppose to taste like? I dont know how to describe it. It tasted a bit herbal to me. blahhh. But overall, a fulfilling meal. read more

This place is amazing! The beef in the beef broccoli is super tender and the broccoli isn't over cooked. The crispy sesame beef, which was a first for me, was awesome. The sweet & sour chicken was epic. The only con would be that the sauce was super thick and sweet which made me think there's A LOT of sugar in it, after refrigeration, the next day it was like taffy. I personally prefer a sweet and tart style sauce. The chicken pieces were large and over flowing from the container. The Pu Pu platter was very good, wing restaurants need to learn how to make wings like this. Just wish they included the Peking ravioli with it. Make sure you walk in your first time to order, there's great coupons on the menu to help with the slightly higher cost. The staff is friendly and will tell you to use them. read more

Dirty, dirty, dirty! We stopped by for lunch and the place was empty. Waitress poured us the water and took our drink orders. Then we noticed all our glasses were dirty and one cup had a floatee. The portion is extremely generous and the food is pretty good but the service is awful. Those ladies are so rude to me! First off, I didn't even get greeted when I walked in, not even a smile. I asked for water and she just slammed the huge jug in my face and walked away! It took forever to get their attention for the check. I was afraid to ask for anything else. I wanted a different place to order Chinese food from and decided to give this place a shot. I had their chicken fingers, pork fried rice and chicken lo mein. It was so delicious, especially the lo mein. I will order from here the next time that I want Chinese. read more

This place gives huge portions! My bf and I always order their lunch/dinner combinations plates. The food is well worth the price (which isn't even expensive to begin with). I love their egg-drop soup. But I must admit, I was very disturb during this one lunch-run. So my friends and I decided to grab lunch after class. They opened at 11am and we were their first customers. We saw how they prepped some of their food. Three of the workers were wrapping crab ragoons and one of the lady kept sneezing and another lady kept playing with her hair. I dont recall seeing any of them washing their hands after either! Yuck! Tried this place for the first time, ordered 2 dinners plus appetizer. Big mistake giving this "restaurant" a try. It should have given me a clue that they were "out" of my first choice, a pork dish, even though they had plenty of my husband's different pork dish available. Given the dismal results of our orders, I can only assume they do not cook fresh food here but rely upon Sysco or some other factory to provide frozen bags of below mediocre asian (can't capitalize the word in this case) cuisine to reheat or throw into a deep fryer. We were also surprised that no rice accompanied our thickly breaded greasy entrees. What chinese restaurant doesn't provide rice??? Very overpriced for just a greasy dried out and flavorless entree. I threw away most of my paltry entree because it was inedible and was later ill from what I had eaten. My husband had the same unpleasant reaction from his meal. Service at pickup was brusque and unpleasant, with the woman at the register yelling in Mandarin at a nearby diner as I paid for our order. I do not appear to be of Asian descent. Little did she know that I speak Mandarin and understood every word she said. Rude behavior to yell at someone else during a business transaction, regardless. So all I did was to thank her in Mandarin and wish her a good day. I didn't wait around to watch her reaction. I cannot recommend this place for any reason. read more

I used to live 5 mins from this place and survived on their food for years. I have friends that will drive 20 miles just to get their take out. Best Chinese Take Out in Lowell....period. It even has a bar...who'd have thunk it?! You can get sloshed and mow their beef teriyaki on a Saturday night. The regulars can be a bit restless...but there's nothing wrong with a little noise. I've been going to Mandarin Lowell for the past few years and I have never had an issue with their service or food. The portions are large and I always have left overs to take home with me. The waitresses are very quick in seating us and getting us our drinks and the food comes out very quickly. What I really was surprised about was the pricing. Everything was priced very reasonably. The food always tastes really great. I always get the beef lo mein, the house special fried rice, or the L19 which is a lunch special that comes with General Gau's chicken, pork fried rice and your choice of soup. Delivery is also very quick. They usually show up before the estimated delivery time and everything is packaged nicely along with some extra sauces and utensils and fortune cookies. If you haven't had the chance to dine here yet, I would recommend taking a chance on it. read more

Just had 2 lunch specials here and we were impressed. It's an ordinary looking place and it feels a bit like you are eating in someone's living room, but the food is excellent and the portions hot and huge. We'll go back after we try Pho Dalat across the street as we are retired and trying every cheap eats place around. Overall it is worth a visit for sure. read more

I used their delivery service the other night and was not terribly impressed. First, there is a delivery minimum and fee. I expected that so I didn't mind. They came quickly and the food was still nice and warm. I didn't think the portion sizes were large for take-out. The food itself I wasn't that impressed with. The food had a lot of textures I wasn't really excited about. I got chicken teriyaki, an egg roll, chicken in a garlic sauce and fried rice. The chicken teriyaki was not fried, but grilled. The garlic chicken was spicier than I have ever had at any other restaurant. It was loaded with broccoli over other veggies. There was one odd looking veggie that I had never seen before. It reminded me of bamboo in texture, but it has weird shape that wasn't bamboo. The chicken on both dishes was rubbery. The fried rice wasn't bad. I like the heavy soy sauce taste, but if you don't then beware. The eggroll had some weird textures in it. I thought it might be shrimp, but I couldn't find any shrimp in it. If they put it in then there are like 2 very small ones in the entire eggroll. All their food had a strong cinnamon undertone to all the flavors. This is something I hate, but many restaurants do. This is my go to place for "Chinese" in the lowell area. It's a typical Americanized takeout but quantity and quality of what they serve are enough to warrant four stars. IMO they have the best fried calamari in the area. Of course its not Chinatown quality -- indeed they only consist of the rings and not whole squid, but the texture and flavor are always consistently good. The lobster sauce, crab Rangoon, various soup choices, and breaded chicken dishes are always full of flavor and never disappoint. I cannot comment on the beef options as I normally don't order beef at at a Chinese restaurant. The service can be a hit and miss. The dining area is small enough so that you will never lose sight of your server, but the staff can be a bit relaxed at times. Not a deal breaker as long as they are attentive when you do call for it. There is a bar in a small space next to the checkout counter that has that dive bar atmosphere. Feels like you're drinking in a closet-- not my kind of thing . It's a pity that this place closes so relatively early even on weekends (after a night out in town, you'd have to deal with less savory alternatives)---- as for quick chinese Americanized fare, mandarin Lowell just cannot be beat. read more

I typically order food for delivery. The food is good, but the service is horrible. These guys get something wrong every time I order. One time they didn't want to deliver because of *sidewalk* construction, the other time because of rush hour (it was 7:30 PM..). They still charged and told me I would have to just call the credit card company!Once they even asked me to meet them at the local CVS because they didn't want to drive the extra two minutes to my apartment! They never take your special requests (how arrogant of me to ask for chopsticks.. in writing..), and they can't even be bothered to close their food containers all the way. read more

Not good. The service was quick (10 mins on a Friday evening), and I found out why. None of the food was thoroughly cooked. We ordered crab rangoon & scallion pancakes, both of which were doughy and chewy. Also the chicken dish was soggy and the chicken undercooked. Save your money, go somewhere else. read more

We have been coming here for years now. The food is great . It may look like a tiny older place but it's awesome and worth going to try! I would recommend the general gaus... Ask for it extra crispy and if you like it spicy , extra spicy . Let me tell you it will not disappoint ! Another I would recommend is the 8 treasure chicken and the crispy mini shrimp plate. Jenny one of the owners is super nice and accommodating. A great bonus to the great food is the prices are actually really good ... For a big dinner plate and a bowl of soup it's at around 8-9$ !
