Came here for the first time and I felt really welcomed as soon as I walked in. The vibe is really nice and so is the service :) We decided to eat family style and share all the goodies. Honey walnut shrimp (AMAZING), Mu Shu, fried rice, cream cheese wontons (to die for, and made fresh in house). My favorite dish had to be the peppered fish Since I am a vegetarian the menu was very accommodating. I loved the vegetarian dish we had with sautéed vegetables and tofu in a really yummy soy sauce. I wish I had photos, but I just had to dig in when everything came. The freshness of all dishes made me feel so happy and it was such a memorable food experience. I used to live across the street over 30 years ago and loved the Mongolian beef, sweet not spicy. High quality ingredients. I eat here every time I come to town and the food is consistently delicious. I have never found Chinese food I like as much as Mandarin King! read more

This is a perfect example as to how social media is so critical or rather can be absolutely critical to a business' success. I found this place here, on Yelp America. And guess what, America was right. I most drove 23 miles to try this place and I am so happy!!! I could go all that way and only try "a" dish...so no judging America when you see my photos!! Garlic shrimp, house special chicken and of course, wonton soup. All - excellent. If you're jones'en for some good, fresh tasting, Chinese food - definitely try the Mandarine King - you won't be disappointed. I love Madarin King. My favorite place in the area for Chinese and for takeout. Their portions are huge, their prices are so reasonable, and most importantly the food is so good and fresh. My go to order is always the: House special beef, aromatic shrimp, and house chow mein. If you dine in, you get a complimentary salad as well. Also, they always have an option for a complete dinner which is a great deal if you actually like the items that come with it. I'm not a huge fan of most of those things so I never opt for it. Note: Parking is street parking only. But in this part of PCH there should be no problem finding a meter. read more

So I've been consistently ordering takeout from Mandarin king for the past 5 or so years. I live in Laguna so it's very close and convenient. The food is decent and preparation is fast. I always have it delivered. During and after COVID their prices increased by 30%. Understanding they need to make up for lost profits I still frequently ordered. Today I ordered and they didn't include the crunchy Chinese noodles they always do. I called to ask why and they said because I only ordered one dish they are no longer included. That I needed to order more for them to be included. Otherwise I can get them for an additional charge. I get that they need to be profitable, but it's just not worth it any longer. read more

OK, our order was to go but degradation of food quality and flavor from that can only be blamed so much. Our food was a total let down: Veggie Egg Rolls: just ok. Potstickers: gummy, thick wrapper, flavorless filling. Shrimp Mushu: filling was good but the "plum" sauce was anything but. It had a grainy, undissolved sugar texture. Shrimp with fresh veggies: flavorless! Veggie Chowmein: the only dish that was in the ballpark for flavor. Broccoli with Oyster Sauce: where's the rich, flavorful sauce one typically finds on this fish? Zero flavor, just broccoli and some remnant of broth from cooking. Rice: How can you mess up rice?! Ours was old, dry and clumpy--perfect for making fried rice. Sorry to say, this was our first and last visit. read more

Additionally when my son went into pick up the order they asked for his vaxx card; he explained to them he was just there for a pickup order and they eyeballed him while they went to get the food. American Chinese food, not good, not bad. Everything was on salty side, and while the had good flavor and texture I found myself needing to tone it down with the rice, which was just ok. Waitress was nice and I noticed a lot of regulars who had a friendly back and forth with the reception which added to the pleasant dining experience. This place has great Chinese food and equally great service. It was one of those nights when you just HAVE TO HAVE that one thing for late dinner, you know what I mean. I ordered out last minute and expected to get some well-deserved sass on the phone for putting in an order at the very last moment, but I was willing to take the blow to get what I was craving. To my surprise, the person on the other end of the phone was more than willing to place the order and wait up for me to arrive for pick-up. Score. When I arrived, the shop was already closed but I was still greeted at the door with a smile and my order ready to go. Another order had canceled last minute so the man in charge generously offered us some extra deliciousness in the form of egg drop soup and Mongolian beef. That's two points for me! As it was my first visit to Mandarin King, I figured it was good, but probably like most other Chinese places, but I was wrong... it's way better. I got the Honey Walnut Shrimp and Orange Chicken with Fried Rice on the side. SO GOOD. I especially recommend the Shrimp. It's unique and seriously good. Three points and now I'm a customer for real. Ordered our food on line to be delivered. I personally screwed up the order and ended up getting more than I expected. BUT it turned out to be one of the best mistakes I have ever made. We (wife and I) loved everything that came. Not only was the food excellent but it was packaged by someone who cared and was still warm. I am 84 years old and have eaten at many highly (and pricey) places. The food we got today was as good as any I have ever eaten. We will be regulars in the future. read more

In the year and a half I've been coming here the food is still and always has been great. I gave it five stars in my first review, and the last two times we came here the flavors the quality of the food was very disappointing. Last night we ordered a pork dish and a seafood dish. The pork was rubbery flavors the seafood dish had chicken in it, in my favorite wonton soup was full of pepper. I got sick as a result of the poor meal. Even the fortune cookies were broken, and we didn't get chopsticks. The rice was hot! All in all it was bad and a waste of $50. It's a pity that the chef does not try their own food. read more

Tired after a long, pleasurable day whale watching, my family and I were fortunate to discover "Mandarin King." Don't let the scarce parking or comparatively small venue size fool you- Mandarin King serves up authentic Mandarin and Szechwan style dishes with lightning fast efficiency, bold flavors and superb service. Our family of six ordered chicken chow mein (two platters, requisite fare for my picky teenage sons), kung pao chicken, orange chicken, the house special chicken and vegetable chop suey for my mother-in-law, who happens to be diabetic. The orange chicken sparkled with crunchy nuggets of chicken set off against the mild heat of the Szechwan-style Chinese red chilis. An unexpected surprise was the velvety texture and downright buttery mouthfeel that sets this dish apart from the dozens of other ways I've savored this dish in my life. The house special chicken lives up to its lofty name, and features pan-seared chicken in an unctuous glaze comprised of white wine and rice vinegar. Did I mention blazing service? The first of our entrees arrived within 3-4 minutes of placing our order! The wait staff swiftly refilled our drinks and the owner (Aaron) regaled us with how his restaurant has been owned & operated by the same family since its inception, in 1984. We also discovered the enormous goldfish in the obligatory aquarium is an ancient 14yrs old! In a lifetime of enjoying Chinese food all over America, this is simply the second finest Chinese food meal I've ever experienced. Hunan and Tai Shan, in the Chinatowns of San Francisco and Washington D.C., respectively, form the bookends around Mandarin King. My three meal at Tai Shan wins the gold, Mandarin King earns silver and Hunan the bronze. read more

This place is so great! The moment we walked in, the manager spoke to my dad like an old friend and we were immediately seated. The space is small and seating a little cramped, but SO WORTH IT. It wasn't very busy when we went- 7 pm on a Sunday. The food is delicious. Seriously, probably the best chow mein I've ever had. The noodles were perfectly soft and flavorful, and we couldn't get enough! I love egg flower soup, and this was easily the best I've ever had. It isn't artifical at all, like most I've had in the past. There are no peas (yay!) and they use water chestnuts, which give it a surprising and delightful crunch and fresh aspect. Their vegetable egg rolls are crisp yet light, and don't leave you feeling like you're eating a packet of grease. My family has added Mandarin King to our "must-go" checklist of the Newport Beach area, and you should, too. read more
