Just like multiple people have said, this business is honest. They will not charge you unnecessarily or upsell you. 20 minutes into a road trip with my friend and dog, I smelled alcohol coming through the AC. Thinking it was my coolant leaking, we came across this auto shop with the fear that our trip would have to be postponed or just excruciating driving through SoCal without AC. But the idea mechanics inspected my car thoroughly and said nothing was wrong. It took some trust on my end to proceed with the trip after. And the smell somehow slowly dispersed after. Later, I found out that the cleanser for my friend's dog had leaked from the bag and had been circulating throughout the car, ha. This auto shop could've easily said they needed to check it out for a day or made up some reason to charge us. But they were honest and professional. I have never felt such a positive, welcoming, and genuine customer service here. I came here because it was recommended to me and I was hesitant at first because I live in LA which is about 30 miles away. But my drive here was definitely worth it. Pep boys took advantage of me and tried to charge me $800 (w/tax). I went to them because my engine light was on and they "diagnosed" my car for $100 and told me that my brake pads were metal to metal ($410), gas cap is loose ($35) and evac cap is open ($45). I was shocked so I decided to make a trip to Wilbert. According to Wilbert, my brake pads were still up to 60-80%! And the gas cap that pep boys changed was not in specs for my car! Pep boys is a joke. Wilbert did my diagnosis for free, double checked my tires and the gas cap, etc. Needless to say, Wilbert is such a genuine mechanic who only looks out for his customers. Met with Wilbert yesterday 08/23/21 for brake service. I told him brought my own OEM brake pads for front and rear. Couple hours later, he called me and told me the truck was ready for pick up. When I arrived back at the location, he told me that my front brakes are still good (70%) but the rear needed the replacement. He was very honest and straight to the point. JUNE 2012 My scion TC zooms down the 60 freeway headed east at 1am. My gas is full, my oil was full, and all seemed well with my car, boy how I was wrong. CLANK! DING! BANG! Those sounds spilled from my engine bay and into my ears like finger nails on a chalk board. Smoke, white smoke began to fill my windshield as I began to make my off the freeway. Exiting the freeway my car powers off and everything locks, luckily I was able to pull off into a residential area safely to phone AAA. A few days later I had my car towed to Toyota of puente hills, they wanted $1.5k just to open the engine to see if that was the issue, and if it wasn't then that money is gone bye bye. Then of the engine was blown that would cost $5k to replace! Hell no! Had my car towed over to Mandalay auto at the recommendation of my good friend. He told me wilbert at Mandalay did great work and would work with me. He knew immediately as we spoke over the phone what had happened to my car, that my engine was blown. All I had done was given him a verbal description, he didn't need to open my engine or even open up the hood to know that was the issue. I knew at that moment he was a guy I could trust. He needed to find an engine for me and did so in a matter of hours and with just under 50k miles. So less than my original engine. The install went well, he serviced my car and had me back on my feet in a matter of weeks. CURRENTLY I continue to frequent Mandalay auto for my services and have never had any issues out of my vehicle since. I will never return to the dealer, because they are the reason my engine blew in the first place. (I took it to puente hills Toyota and downtown Toyota regularly) The service at Mandalay is A+ ( the woman at the front desk is a bit hard to understand but she is so freaking nice!) My experience with Mandalay is quite disappointed. Came here to do clutch replacement (scion tc) because my friend knows Wilbert (the mechanic). Quoted me $300 for the labor (I brought my own parts). I ended up paying $424, because the Burmese lady (the owner) said my car was really hard to work on (cmon it's toyota and it has a camry engine. smh) and charged me 8pcs fender/bumper retainer clips for $3/each. Told me it's gonna be done by 2pm, ended up done by 6pm. The best part, Wilbert cussed here and there in front of me and blame the car for having such a terrific engine design. He acting like I made him waste his time by all this clutch job. For quality of the job, I'm (again) really disappointed. First of all, he took out the FWD axles, then when he put it back, my steering wheel became not straight. Second of all, when I asked him to bleed the clutch, he said it doesn't need to be bleeded. This guy either tries to act stupid or lazy. I think both. Horrible attitude, a lot of BS, terrible job, so unprofessional. This place is not for me. Never going back for sure. read more

I was told I needed my bearing replaced in order to get the dust out of the back of my car, but the cost with labor felt like it was a little too much. I had my family friend make an appointment at this place, and was told they would do it for half the price!! I took the car in at 8AM, but we had accidentally ordered the wrong bearing. They still reordered and had my car fixed by 2PM, and even replaced my hub!! The lady that I talked to was very sweet and knew what she was talking about, so I felt comfortable with everything. I had to bring my S2000 here to replace a blown rear differential mount. Even though they were booked for Saturday, they still squeezed me in for 8 a.m. appointment. I thought I would have to wait forever because there were at least 7 cars being worked on already. Surprisingly, Wilbert took a look at my car right away and was done with it in about 40 minutes. Even though this was my first time here, they treated me like a long time customer. Best of all, I only paid about 60% of what my other mechanic was going to charge me, and his price is pretty good already. I went to a competitor's for a few years. One day, I guess I failed to get an oil change on time and they couldn't unscrew my tank due to how dried it was. They referred me to Mandalay a few blocks down. Why would they send me to a competitor who does it for cheap + other things and for less? They fixed the problem and I've been going to them if I'm ever in the neighborhood. I just moved back into the area and was glad to head over there again. They never try to sell me on anything and are honest on what's wrong. My break pads were screechy and I needed an oil change. They fixed a few things including air filter, etc. all for under 300. We drive all the way from Irvine to come here! Wilbert, the mechanic, is an honest guy and will tell you what needs fixing/replacing and what doesn't. Hilda handles everything at the desk and is very competent. For such great service, the prices are very fair. It's a very small and simple place. For a few of our newer cars, we go to the car dealership for servicing because we got the deals, but we still take our older cars here. Be sure to call ahead or make an appointment because they're so popular and have so many longtime customers that often even an oil change can take a while on busy days.
