Today I ordered Asada Fries and Onion Rings thru the Caviar app. Caviar offered me $5 off to try this Black owned restaurant. My food arrived on time. Wow, what a huge amount of food! Was in Oaktown again so had to try another unusual spot. Been seeing things in the internet about Man vs Fries so had to try it. They don't seem to be very busy being a pop up restaurant. Place was empty and only a couple people working there but it looked clean so decided to give it a try. We got the Nor Cal burrito, So Cal burrito, Asada fries and deep fried Oreos. We split everything that way we could all try the different items. Nor Cal and Do Cal burrito were just ok. Too much filler in both and not enough meat. Also the Asada fries seemed very short on the meat too. Everything was made fresh so that was good , but all were lacking flavor. The best thing we had were the deep fried Oreos. Was excited to try this place based off a post I saw on the Yelp East Bay Instagram page. Menu: When ordering from here, you'll have a good laugh at the menu from their options like "I HELLA Love a Side is Queso!" You also have options to add various toppings like hot Cheetos, bacon, onion rings, etc. It's not the healthiest menu, but the flavors make it worth the cheat meal, or regular meal. We were so excited to order from here finally because we have been wanting to try it for so long! Who doesn't want fries, hot Cheetos, secret sauce, quest, etc? We decided to order the Cali Crunch and the NorCal Asada fries. I really was hoping I would love the Cali Crunch but it had too many onions for my liking and that overpowered everything else. It also was not able to be picked up because it was so loosely put together - I'm not sure if that's how it is supposed to be but that made it a little hard to eat. I'm sure the NorCal fries that we ordered were good but they had actually made us the SoCal fries on accident. We weren't complaining too much though because those were definitely the highlight of our order. I'm not sure we'll be back here but I'm glad we got to try this place out! I love Man vs Fries, I've ordered delivery from here twice so far and counting! Usually uber eats discounts the delivery fee and convinces you to go get more of a good thing. The NorCal style burrito was calling me, something about putting fries into anything makes it a delicious masterpiece to me. And you get a huge serving of food goodness that'll last you another day or two. I've gotten it each time and never been unsatisfied with the hot crispy fries, loads of chicken and tasty toppings of sour cream, cheese, guacamole. I'm drooling about it just remembering and writing this review! And I had to get some good ole onion rings. They're huge, crispy, crunchy and juicy. Oh man, you have got to try them and then thank me for the rec! Another order that lasted a while was the asada fries which is heaven in its purest form. so I've been wanting to try this place because I'ma fan of burritos as well as Mexican food. I saw that they were running a location in Atlantic Station, which is where I work. I ordered food at 3:16 PM. I was on my way to go pick up my food or wait for it to be done by 3:30 . I could not find the place at all. I called customer service twice. They supposedly called the store but didn't lingerieget an answer. I get an hour break so basically wasted my whole time trying to figure out where the restaurant was had to get the order canceled which left me with less than 20 minutes to figure something else out. read more

I came here a few times when they first opened and the food was amazing! Service was always great. My bf and I always had the NorCal asada fries and the they were fireee! We moved to Richmond and hadn't gone in a couple years so decided to stop by today to get some delicious asada fries and unfortunately they were lacking in flavor. I'm the type of person who wants to eat my food at it peak. French fries need to be eaten within ten minutes out of the fryer. After a long day, I decided to swing by and grab dinner on my way home. I wanted something heavy, filling, and would also hit the spot. Being in NorCal, it's only right that I ordered the NorCal Burrito (~$13)! It is a burrito stuffed with cheese, meat, fries, guacamole, sour cream, queso, and spiked ranch. For the meat, I went with half chicken and half steak. I opted for no sour cream. I also got a free canned soda with a Yelp check-in! This burrito is MASSIVE; easily shareable among two people or just one super hungry person. They don't skimp out on the meat or any of the toppings (the guacamole was a little bit scarce, though). The meat was well seasoned and I actually really enjoyed all the flavors together. However, it got soggy - quickly. The fries were not crispy or crunchy to begin with and with the various sauces they put, it easily fell apart. After the first half, it wasn't as enjoyable anymore, to be quite honest. It was super filling, though, which is why I chose this spot in the first place! All in all, it was a good try and a super awesome restaurant name! I've been wanting to try this place ever since they opened their pop up in Livermore but I just couldn't get myself to drive out there. When I finally heard that they gave a pop up in Oakland, I was stoked and decided it was close enough tot try it! I was drooling as I looked at the pictures and put in my online order through DoorDash!! Once I got my food, I didn't bother to check the bag they gave me but I finally did when I got to the car and thank god I did, they forgot the SoCal burrito I ordered and when I went back in to ask them about it, one of the people that was working in the kitchen gave me a little attitude and was saying she could've sworn she put one in the bag, but I swear she didn't! I waited for about 10mins as they made the burrito. AND on top of that, they DIDN'T give us any sauces - LIKE NONE AT ALL!!! I really wanted to love this place but really, it's just OK at best. To cut to the chase, I ordered via DoorDash. I ended up ordering the helladilla (quesadilla) and an order of fried cookie dough. Helladilla + all sauces: First off, it was indeed very big. The helladilla comes with meat, cheese, and french fries stuffed into an insanely huge tortilla with your choice of sauces. To me, the steak was dry and chewy and had too much fat and gristle attached to it which made for horrible mouth feel. The cheese wasn't that good and of course the fries were soggy and cold and the overall quesadilla by itself was just dry and flavorless. With the sauces, it was just OK. The queso was the worst in my opinion. It didn't taste like cheese and it was greasy by the time I got it. Fried cookie dough: Very good and decadent, even if it wasn't hot out the fryer by the time it was delivered to me. It was a real treat but also unnecessarily expensive. I think I ended up paying almost $30 for these two items. And they forgot my chocolate sauce with my cookie dough, but that's ok, the cookie dough didn't need it. Came to Man vs Fries because I love Mexican food and am always looking to try new places. I'm so glad I came because I absolutely loved it! Got the Asada Fries (curly) and the Flamin Cali Crunch. Both were amazing! The Asada Fries were perfectly fried-- just the right amount of crispy and soft for me. The topping was even better! The meat was juicy yet not overly tender, and the blend of guac and sour cream made it all the more delicious. The portion sizes are also rather large, so the fries alone should be enough to fill you up. The Flamin Cali Crunch was also amazing. We got the house sauce on the side, which I highly recommend-- especially if you're a fan of flavor and creamier tastes. We got chicken for our choice of meat and spicy Doritos. (They give you a choice of Doritos or hot cheetos.) Each bite was a perfect blend of just the right amount of sauce and meat and flavor. French Fries in a quesadilla sounds interesting but when there are sooooo many, they get cold and cold fries taste like caulking. I get the concept though so it's probably just not for me. Ok, first of all: I want to say that I've ordered from here 10 times within the past two months--all Doordash deliveries. The NorCal burrito is insanely delicious, and I order it most weeks as a special Friday treat. However, my last experience left much to be desired, and it all comes down to customer service. I placed an order through Doordash, and after about an hour, the driver called me in a panic to cancel the order, stating that Man vs Fries didn't get my order. This is fine, I'm a patient person, and technological snafus happen. I called Man vs Fries to suss out the situation, and the person answering the phone was happy to take a replacement order over the phone: the problem seemed to be on Doordash's end. When I read my credit card number to the employee, I don't know if he was hard of hearing but he would often repeat different numbers than what I stated clearly into the phone from a quiet room. My instinct was telling me that this employee was intentionally doing things incorrectly, just to make things more difficult. I don't know why this would be, but this is my impression. When my partner and I picked up the order, what was in the bag differed from the receipt stapled to it. I ordered a NorCal burrito with a side of queso. No queso in the bag. No big deal. Missing sides sometimes happens on deliveries. However, my partner ordered the SoCal Asada Nachos which was a disappointment to say the least. The ingredients are listed right on the receipt, but the following were missing from the box: grilled onions, jalapeños, pickled onions, and a lime wedge. What was in the box: chips, lettuce, ranch (?), cilantro, guacamole and sides of salsa and more sour cream. Also, there was no cheese, which is an essential element of nachos. What I just described was not worth $11.95. I was dissatisfied with the experience and decided to give them a call the next day to explain. I asked to speak with the owner, but Danny, the person who answered the phone, simply said "he's not here", and wouldn't provide contact information for Silvano, the owner. He provided the street address of the restaurant which I already knew, and then added in a snarky tone, "also you're on the phone right now". Like I didn't know I was on the telephone? Not a great start. I told Danny that I was dissatisfied with both the food order and the service I received. He wanted me to describe the person I interacted with, by describing their gender and race (!), but I said I spoke to the person over the phone and couldn't comment on that. It very well could have been Danny who took the order the night before, I'm not sure. He stated that there were three people working the night before, but he believed he knew who I was talking about, and would have a conversation with that employee. That's fine, but I still felt no real assurance that the establishment would do right by the customer. Danny offered to provide a free meal and dessert if I came in that day. I don't live near the establishment and stated that I am unable to come in, and that I would like a refund instead. Danny stated that even though he was the manager for the day "he wasn't trained to give refunds" and took my name and telephone number instead. At this point, I do not expect a return call or the refund, and I won't be giving this establishment any more of my money until I hear from a manager or owner. After reading several other reviews here on yelp, I'm sorry to see that the customer service and food delivery are too inconsistent for me to continue to support this business.
