Over priced skinny burrito. Just go to a taqueria and get you a California burrito. You will thank me later

Let me tell you about Blanco, the new Mexican restaurant and bar near the Galleria. My sister and I…read morepulled up on a Tuesday to catch the all-day happy hour - we needed a win, and Blanco delivered. We kicked things off with a frozen Paloma and the house chips and salsa. The Paloma was dangerously smooth, and the chips and salsa were noticeably fresh and satisfying--a perfect, unfussy start. For the mains, we went heavy on the tacos. My sister ordered the shrimp tacos and the crispy sweet potato taco (avocado, chile negra, cotija... it looked serious). I opted for the more traditional route: Chicken Pastor: Solid. The caramelized pineapple brought a nice, necessary sweetness. Traditional Carnitas Taco: Okay, this was the moment. The carnitas itself was excellent, but the inclusion of the mandarin oranges with the salsa verde and crema fresca was an unexpectedly brilliant move. It sounds unconventional, but the citrus cut through the richness of the meat perfectly. It was the absolute highlight of the meal--a truly fresh and inventive take. The restaurant is massive, with ample indoor and outdoor seating, which is great for the Houston crowd. I liked that the bar faces both inside and out, making it easy to grab a drink wherever you post up. Everything was delicious, from the initial drinks to the very last bite of that carnitas taco. It's a fresh, quality take on Mexican food, and the Tuesday happy hour is a serious hookup. Go for the tacos, stay for the Paloma. 5/5 stars.

I would go back for sure I enjoyed my burger and my friends liked the queso and tacos.

The world is full of Mexican restaurants…read more Most are some version of Tex-Mex in a family-friendly, relatively similar environment. Nothing wrong with that. Mexican Sugar breaks that mold completely. This is the most legit, wonderful, bougie, over-the-top Mexican restaurant I have ever been to, and I mean that as the highest compliment possible. This was my second trip to Mexican Sugar. The first was in Grapevine. After this visit to the Montrose location, I have officially decided that when I am in Texas, I will seek these places out. They are that good. First, dress up. I doubt there is an actual dress code, but this is not the place where I am showing up looking like I just finished mowing the yard. Come here to be seen. Come here to show out a little. The place is beautiful and has that kind of vibe. Second, the drinks. Hell yes. Fancy, creative, excellent, and impressive enough for even the person who has seen every ridiculous cocktail presentation imaginable. And then there is the food. My God, the food. The salsa and queso are legit AF. The street corn is heaven in a bowl. Get several orders. I am serious. One is not enough. The carne asada was amazing. Honestly, I could keep going, but at some point this review is just going to become me yelling about how much I love Mexican Sugar. I LOVE MEXICAN SUGAR. OK, YOU GET THE IDEA. WHY AM I YELLING? BACK TO THE REVIEW.... Service was excellent too. The place is huge and was absolutely packed, but our server stayed attentive and the food came out surprisingly quickly. Make a reservation. Park in the nearby garage. Dress nice. Order the drinks. Get the street corn. Then get more street corn. Who is ready for another trip to Houston? I'll book the reservation at Mexican Sugar.

My daughter dropped some food and made a bit of a mess, and Sonia was so kind about it and cleaned everything up without making us feel uncomfortable at all. The food was amazing. I highly recommend the steak and eggs and the pancakes, both were delicious. Great food, amazing service, and another wonderful experience. We'll definitely be back!

For drinks, my husband and our friends tried some of the margaritas from their large and unique margaritas menu, as well as their hibiscus agua fresca. All of the drinks were very pretty and it seemed like everyone enjoyed them, too! We started with their chips and salsa trio, which we all really liked. The chips were on the thicker side, but were crispy and not stale or chewy at all. Each of the salsas were quite different, and two were served warm, which we really liked! For the price, I'd consider getting the chips and salsa as a non-negotiable, honestly. For entrees, we tried the enchilada rojas, chilaquiles verde w/ chicken and beef, birria barbacoa ramen, and huaraches. My husband felt like his ramen could have included more meat, but aside from that everyone really enjoyed what they ordered. The highlight was probably the desserts, though! We got a quatro leches and two ordered of their giant and amazing churros. Both were incredibly tasty and reason enough to return for another visit in the future!

My soyrizo burrito with guacamole came to 12 dollars. The size was comparably huge like Chipotle. I like the myriad options they have here. They have four types of salsa in addition to pico de gallo. They also have cotija cheese along with cilantro and onions so you can pretend to eat authentic Mexican rather than the usual Tex-Mex. The taste was fresh and the tomatillo salsa had a surprising kick that you don't notice until near the end. The line was not busy compared to the neighbouring Chick-fil-a so you get your food fast if you know what you're ordering.

I would describe this is more authentic and less Tex mex than chipotle but the ingredients are always super fresh. The steak meat is tender and tasty and the chicken is also great. I usually get a salad/burrito bowl but this time I tried the crispy tacos. I wasn't a big fan of the ground beef(carne molida), because it was too greasy and I didn't care for the flavor. My. Co worker got the taco salad and she loved it, but she said it could have used more lettuce, but it was piled high with toppings so you really can't complain much. The people are always friendly here, but they are closed on the weekends and only open from 11-2pm during the week I believe the sign said.

So, I don't remember how it was. I came back because I was lazy to cook something and didn't want to drive far to get something more delicious. Just to say the least, they serve Mexican food, just not delicious Mexican food. It could have been better. Maybe it was the hours I went. I usually get here around midnight. My friend and I stopped by for a midnight snack. He ordered a beef fajita and I ordered 2 tacos of different proteins and a chicken torta. I tried his beef fajita and yuk it was tough as hell. They used lean thinly sliced tough meats strips. The tacos were ok. But the chicken torta, OMG. The meat was so salty and bun was soggy. Ugh. Charro beans was a joke. It was so watered down. Cilantro was browning. Chips and salsa were decent. Burrito was pretty good as a takeout.
