When my elderly mom moved from Santa Ynez to Solvang in 2019 after my dad died, she used Mammoth Moving & Storage. They packed everything, nothing was damaged, and she was extremely happy with their service. Fast forward to 2026. We lived in Simi Valley and were moving to Minden, NV. We knew we wanted Mammoth. Originally spoke to Walter who was knowledgeable and patient. He said it would cost more since they had to come down to Simi, which we appreciated knowing, but we had our minds made up. Didn't even call another company for an estimate. Walter came down to assess our stuff (and we had a lot of stuff!) in order to give an accurate quote. And he was prompt when answering texts with questions I had. On moving day, Walter called to let us know when to expect the movers. Upon their arrival, they introduced themselves, were friendly, polite, and clean, effectively wrapped and packed the items we hadn't already packed, and nicely said their good-byes upon leaving. Walter called afterward to make sure we were happy. On deliver day, Walter texted, and the driver (whom we met in Simi) called, to let us know his estimated arrival time. The rest of the crew was hired from up here, and they, too, were friendly, polite, and clean. Upon completion, each one sought us out to say good-bye. I've unpacked about 3/4 of the boxes and so far, all items were delivered unscathed. I'd heard horror stories about moving companies and movers, but I can confidently say that is not our story. We were fine with Mammoth and Sean during the planning process of our move out of state.The packers and movers were all fine. It's after we arrived that our problems began. We saw that the freezer door on our refrigerator was badly damaged as well as additional scratches on one of the other doors. We were disappointed that full coverage for the damages was not covered, especially when the lead mover said he remembered it happening when they moved the refrigerator through the front door at our old home. He never said a word to us about it at the time. We are only getting a fraction back to get what we can fixed. With the cost of the move from CA to Oregon at over $22,000. we were not looking forward to the high cost of the repair. I would make sure if you hire Mammoth that you get all the info clear concerning reimbursement for damages. read more

Recently our Condo Association advised us that our upstairs balcony and walkway was going to be resurfaced. Years of accumulated pots, patio furniture, and my lifelong rock collection, many over fifty pounds, had to be moved. I called Mammoth Moving. Not the biggest job for them but they treated me so. Walter in the office arranged two movers and rolling carts to hold my items. They then wheeled them into my carport to store until the move back upstairs which was two weeks later. Each time on the day prior to the move, the owner Sean, made a personal call to me to confirm time and if I had any special requests. Looking back over the last forty plus years, Mammoth Moving has been there for us during eight full house moves including when we moved to our condo. Terrible experience with Mammoth. I preface this by saying I have nothing against the movers themselves, just employees probably making under 3x less than what they charge per hour, and nice guys. Items intact, also. So I get a "quote" for a local Goleta move from a 2 bedroom apartment (1,000 sqft), 5 minutes from pickup to delivery location, all within Goleta. 140/hr is the "quote." Everything had already been boxed up and disassembled by me in advance. I even took a lot of stuff downstairs in advance, safe for larger stuff. So I figure 2 hrs tops. Nope! 4 hrs. To start, they arrive 1hr after the close of the window they gave me, which I took off from work. From the time of arrival, to the time they loaded the 1st item, about 20 minutes had passed--and that item was wrapped up AFTER it was put on the truck, for some reason. Luckily the item was fine. They make me pay for their drive from the previous job. OK, I guess. Then I have to pay for the time they take to fold their moving blankets and clean up their truck. Then pay for their drive to where they keep the trucks also... And they took a few mins break--fine. So at least $140 was for their drive to and from +break, +fold blanets--again, I'm in Goleta. Insane. Never hired movers before. Probably won't hire Mammoth again. So the "quote" I got originally, when I described the move and items, was the hourly rate. That's not a quote. I never would have imagined paying nearly 600 on movers for between two Goleta locations for a 2bdrm apartment. Ridiculous. If I had been quoted 600 when I called, I would have gone with another service. Really unethical business practices. read more

This review is overdue, only because we just got settled into our new home and have finally weeded through all the boxes that were put into storage from the end of last year. Sean and his amazing group packed up everything in our home in Santa Ynez Valley then moved some of it into storage and some to a temporary rental where we were staying while waiting to move into our permanent new home. They were always on time, respectful, easy to communicate with, and were very careful while packing up all our items, big and small. I am house manager for a couple who moved from a very large home in Santa Barbara to 2 different residences in Michigan. With lots of unusual requests on my part, and needing exact dates for load and unload, Sean did everything in his power to meet my needs, and went above and beyond to make this whole process smooth and easy.. and any questions I had were answered with only a text message away with a response almost immediately! Then there are his employees. By far the best bunch of guys I have yet to work with!! Extremely meticulous, polite and worked above expectation in extremely warm humid temperatures for Santa Barbara. We were recommended to try Mammoth by a competitor who did not have the resources to take care of our large move. Mammoth was a little slow to give us the estimate we needed in the format we could fully understand, but after that hiccup did a superb job to take care of a major job. The contents of the 14,000 square foot house had to be separated into separate consignments for 4 different destinations, but everything arrived at the proper location. There was an immense amount of packing required, but Mammoth's many friendly packers over many days were careful & efficient in professionally handling the task at hand. Nothing broke in the move; in fact, our only complaint might be that they over-protected some of the items (eg reams of packing paper for a number of unbreakable things like pens & pencils, CDs, cutlery, cutting boards, etc, which took countless hours to unwrap). The Mammoth Team receives all Hardsurface pallet, and Carpet roll deliveries for my flooring business. We receive very large deliveries throughout the week, sometime 6+ per day, and either Sean or someone from his staff is always ready and available to make sure these valuable materials are in proper condition, and come off safely. They label, catalogue, and organize our materials in preparation of my crews arrival to pick up day of installation. Sean and his crew are awesome! I called them for a rather unique sort of job on Father's Day just a few days before. We needed them to move about 10 pieces of a very large and heavy (500lbs+) set piece from Santa Barbara to be brought to LA for filming, and then taken back to Santa Barbara, about a 12 hour day. Sean didn't even bat an eye at the unusual request and even made sure that we got some camera-ready movers who agreed to be on camera. He answered all of the questions the owner of the set piece had about transporting, and was courteous and profession the entire time. They knew how to carefully handle and pack all of our fragile and precious furniture, art, antiques, and other items, many sentimental, and they were a joy to work with (easily some of the nicest and most respectful people we've met). When I received notice I had won the item I was also given a deadline of two days to pick it up, impossible for me since I was still out of the country. Tricky move with large truck from home in Santa Barbara to upstairs apartment in L.A...and it was raining! But Colin and his excellent crew of 2 were professional, careful and went the "extra mile" during my 2-day move. I was especially concerned about the safety of my 7+ foot glass china hutch & the "impossible" route they had to haul it upstairs over the back railing of my patio, but they did it without a hitch. The two men doing the actual moving (wish I could remember their names, but it's been 8 months!) were fantastic; they not only brought up all my furniture and boxes, but even set up my wooden queen bed foundation so I could sleep that night on my bed! We had the worst experience ever! The move into storage went smoothly until we were given a receipt with charges amounting to $100 more than what was quoted. They said they had "behind the scenes" charges that we don't witness!! Why was this not up front until they had everything in the storage vault, at that point you have no choice but to pay. The move out of storage was a nightmare to schedule with the office staff. They were angry rude and extremely difficult! They are closed Sundays and open only 8 to 12 on Saturdays. Most people try to move weekends. If they do not want to work weekends they should not be in the business of moving and storage. Collin in the front office behaves like an angry pit bull barking at his customers. His customer service skills are nonexistent! The only bright spot was the actual movers. The guys doing the labor.
