Obsessed with their pepperoni peppercinni !! Service and quality has really gone over the top!

I am one of many that had purchased a subscription at the Oceanside location towards the end of 2023. I did not receive a refund when the business closed, and worse the subscription stayed active with no way to discontinue. I tried calling the Ramona store but everytime I did (around December of last year 2024) I was told that no manager was there. I only sent an email to one I could find online "chatwithus@mammaramonas.com" describing the situation and my expectation of refund for the $199 charged on 11/29/24. I never received a response and my credit card provider declined the dispute so I was stuck paying for a subscription that I received no service for. Now again this year I am again getting charged $199. I WILL NOT LET THIS TRANSACTION STAY ON THE BOOKS. Please let me know if you or someone else is in charge of these subscription accounts and how I will be getting refunded for services never rendered. My name is Everardo Aguilar. The pizza was over cheesed to the extreme. I like cheese but I couldn't even finish a slice. The sauce was decent but the crust was really good I ended up ripping the crust off and trashing the rest of the pizza. read more

I can't believe I didn't already write a review! LOVE Mamma Ramona's! I bought the $599 "Eat Pizza Like a Boss" deal last December and have been enjoying it immensely this year - 3 pizzas, any style, every week for a year. We don't go every week, and don't always get 3 pizzas, but it's fun to have the options. Sometimes I get one for a friend and she is happy too. Our neighbors bought a one-year pizza deal after we shared a couple pizzas with them. The pizzas are always yummy. Even though it costs extra, I prefer the thin crust. We also add roasted garlic for a special touch! Can't say I have a favorite, might be the Veggie Deluxe (sometimes with added meat, LOL). MR just moved from "D" Street to Main St...very conveniently located next to Pamo Valley Winery Tasting Room and across the street from Reds, Whites & Brews. I believe they will deliver to both. I recently bought a different deal for next year - I think it was $259 for a pepperoni salad and premium salad, each week. Then we can pay to add extra ingredients. Looking forward to trying some of the microgreen salads - they have been off the menu during the recent move. read more

Well it now looks like the $99 Pizza subscription at Oceanside was a scam. They took the money closed then expected you to drive to Ramona instead of giving you a refund Apparently the automatic subscription is now charging people $199 for a location that's closed and they can't use. I was supposed to get a refund for a pizza that was wrong was told it was issued never got it. Andrew Simmons has deleted his Facebook account. No idea how to get a refund. read more

Had a nice meal tonight at Mama Ramonas. Jessica was our server and quite professional and nice. We started with two glasses of wine, a Sangiovese and Cabernet. We also ordered the bruscheta which was quite tasty. I had a bowl of minestrone and my wife had a salad. Jessica checked on us regularly and was a peach. We ordered our entrees as my wife had the chicken parmesean and I had the eggplant parmesean. Both were served with penne pasta and the temperature was perfect. The food was good and we also ordered another glass of wine just to top of the meal. We took a canoli home for later as the portions are good size and the food is tasty and quite reasonable. If you are looking for authentic Italian food in the ramona area mama's is the place. read more

I appreciate your answer to the review, but there is no refund to my account, so it is not an honest response, yet again. If I receive a refund happy to give the place another try. We were excited to order at their new Oceanside location, but unfortunately we received a pizza that was extremely under cooked. It was so inedible that I had to throw it in the oven to cook it more for my five year old to even try it (and she is not a picky eater!). I posted a picture of our pizza on their facebook post in our neighborhood group and the owner immediately responded on facebook saying he processed a refund for the pizza. However, I never received a refund, nor an answer to my follow up email to their customer service. It is definitely a bummer as we live so close and were excited to sign up for their Black Friday deal. But bad pizza ($30+ with delivery!) combined with dishonest owners is not for us, especially when we have so many other great pizza places locally to give our business to. read more

I really wanted to like Mama Ramona's, but unfortunately, it was a huge letdown. The pizza was subpar--bland crust, uninspired toppings, and overall lacking the quality I expect. Sadly, Ramona doesn't have great food options in general, but when it comes to pizza, the choices are especially disappointing, with Mama's being the worst. I've given it more than one chance, hoping for improvement, but each time, I leave wishing I had just driven to Poway instead. If you're looking for quality pizza, you'll have better luck making the trip out of town. read more

I've been coming here for 10 years. It has gone from THE local pasta place with homemade meatballs and meat sauce, fresh bread, freshly grated cheese and large salads to...well...what it is now. They recently reopened after renovation. The "renovations" appear to be cutting the dining room in half, firing the staff, raising prices, and using ready made (Costco anyone?) food. The room was really cold, the meat sauce was meatless red sauce, no bread at all, and the covid-forgivable-but-forPete's-sake-get-rid-of-it-now QR code was plastered on every flat surface. The only thing I recognized was the salad dressing. Honestly, I should have stayed home and opened a can of something. At least it would have been hot when I ate it. I pitied the remaining waitstaff. They must know the new owner is trying to sink this place. read more

Subscription scam!! I bought the pizza subscription but they went out of business a couple of months later without notice! After multiple phone calls and messages on Facebook the owner doesn't respond to cancel the subscription. Now one year later I'm being charged again even though they closed the Oceanside location and not being able to use my subscription. Awful way to run a business, you should be ashamed of yourself. Updating based on new ownership: I finally checked out the new Mamma Ramona's recently for dine-in! Upon entering I was immediately struck by the interior remodel. The place looks stunning. I recall going into Mamma Rosa back in the day; it always felt like being in a funeral home. The parking lot is much improved, too. It used to seem like war-torn Kosovo. Craters and what not. It's nice and smooth now. I ordered one of my favorite dishes, cannelloni, which is not often found on Italian restaurant menus. House-made pasta sheets rolled around a beef and sausage filling; topped with red sauce & mozz then baked off. Sort of like an Italian enchilada. Mamma Ramona's cannelloni was outstanding! Warning: when it comes out, it's about 9,000 degrees. Allow it to cool for a few minutes and start with small bites. My dinner included garlic bread plus choice of soup or salad, only $15. On a separate visit I tried their chicken parm and found it to be pretty average. If you know me, you know I love salads in a wooden bowl. Imagine my delight when my salad came out in a wooden bowl just like at the Weev. The greens were fresh and crisp, with none of that fancy tissue paper lettuce that you can't even stab with a fork. There was no juice spooge from my pepperoncini, totally dry inside, but the flesh was firm and tasty. My son had the lobster bisque. I didn't try it but it looked rather thick and viscous. He used the term "pudding" to describe the consistency. I am pleased to report that Mamma Ramona's is now serving beer & wine! Overall it was a really nice experience. I was impressed. The service was thorough, friendly and knowledgable. If there were ever any "kinks" after the ownership transition, they have been "worked out". I will say, the chairs at their new high-top tables are somewhat uncomfortable, but you get used to it after a few minutes. Highly recommended. read more

If I could give no stars I would, paid $99.00 a year ago for a subscription weekly cheese pizza in Oceanside. The owner, Mr. Andrew Simmons closed the location, issued a pro-rated refund, and then a year later charged my card $199.00 for a non-existent location. Now he won't return my call or issue a refund, initiated a chargeback dispute and had to get a new credit card sent to me in the mail. Just moved to Ramona and finding the good spots. Came home last night from a business trip and didn't feel like cooking, it had been a long couple of days. Craving pizza and ordered Mamma Ramona for pick up. Got there at the estimated time and they were just starting the pizza. Great, I'll go next door for a glass of wine and they offered to bring the pizza over when it was done (great service). Got home and tore into the pizzas. They were both amazing! The pizza dough was out of this world good. Everything was spot on and toppings were not scrimped upon. We had the Kathy's special and the Hawaiian. Both amazing. Great stuff and I will be back much sooner than I had intended. Go to Mamma Ramona NOW if you want pizza and be patient, there are just two people working hard to make you great pizza. read more

UPDATE: Sophie's Pita now sells pizza and it's way better. There are a lot of complaints about this place and a lot of the positive reviews are from people stopping on their way to Julian or reviews of the old restaurant with the same name. The last time I ate there, the pizza recipe was inconsistent, but had wavering improvement. The pizza isn't awful, but it's not exactly good either (better than 7-11, worse than Little Caesar's?) though it's absolutely terrible compared to what Mama Ramona's used to be. The thing that sticks out to me the most is the incredible inconsistency. One week the pizza will be amazing, and I'll be very pleased with my purchase, hopeful even, then the next week it goes back to being disappointing and my hope is gone. I will definitely not be purchasing the pizza subscription again, and I definitely don't see myself returning for a la carte ordering. Mama Ramona's used to be a sit-down local Italian restaurant, but the new owners (who also own OrangeCrate) changed the menu to pizza only and are apparently trying to automate the process - which, if true, would seem to mean fewer local jobs, but whatever. The biggest problem is the customer service. You will wait an hour (sometimes more) for a pizza and they will argue with you about it. I have never encountered this sort of wait at ANY pizzeria anywhere, small town or otherwise. They used to respond to every negative review by arguing with the customer online (or calling them a liar) and placing them on a "no-pie list" - which basically means their subscription was now void. What's that saying, "If all your customers are problematic, maybe you're the problem?" or something like that... Someone finally called them out on their behavior in a review so they deleted and rewrote all of their responses. I guess they realized it's a bad look, especially for a restaurant trying to portray the image of a "hometown pizzeria." There have also been reports of people ordering a subscription, having their local restaurant shut down and being refused a refund. This happened in Oceanside. Maybe other locations too, idk. Not answering their phones, closing their restaurants on Monday and Tuesday but still accepting orders on their website, etc. I could understand growing pains at first, but these type of things have been going for years. To summarize, the pizza is mediocre and the owners seem to be running the business somewhat unethically - or, at the very least, they're just extremely confrontational. The sad part is Ramona used to have several great pizza restaurants (Amici's being one of the best, though the owner there apparently had a bad attitude too lol, at least the pizza was good) that went out of business during the pandemic and this place just happened to be in the right place and time to fill to niche. My advice is drive 15 minutes to Poway and get Filippi's, Round Table or Costco instead. If you're looking for something local that isn't a chain, there is also Ramona Lisa which is alright. The restaurant seems to have "changed" owners over to the pizza cook since this was originally written, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was just to avoid the legal fallout of ripping a bunch of people off with the pizza subscriptions. read more

On Sunday, March 12th, we had reservations, at this restaurant, for a large party (17). We've been to this restaurant with large parties in the past and our experience was good. This time was awful. Our poor experience started when we were seated at a series of booths which really restricted the interaction within our group. In the past we were in the back room at larger tables in a space definitely more suited to a large party. Next we were presented with the need to order by phone. This, particularly given the large group, was a fiasco. We were faced with aligning tables to checks to people to orders. Some of what was ordered on the phones was then not actually available which created additional frustration. Since we've started patronizing Mama Ramona's, we've seen the place go from good service by good people, to robots assisting to serve food and now no service, only self-service via phone which really didn't work well. Coming to a restaurant is about much more that just getting some food. It's about relaxing with friends and family, it's about the experience, it's about service. Good restaurants provide a great experience along with the food. Mama Ramona's seems to have lost this perspective. When I brought this to the restaurant's attention, they suggested I could find better service at another local restaurant, stating they can't provide good service as it's too expensive. They compared their offering to one of the big box fast food chains. Their advertising states they support the community but my experience is that they are reducing jobs and bringing mediocrity to the town of Ramona. read more

The food is just alright. The service was awful. The front clerk was rude, patronizing, and condescending. The order was not ready when promised and took an additional 40 minutes for my order to be completed. The staff does not care and the business is riding the coattails of a once great establishment. My first experience I got the wrong pizza, the send time was AMAZING best margarita pizza ever. The third time I tried delivery on a Friday night waited 2 1/2 hours, then had to cancel. Last night I wanted pizza could've gone with the other guys but the memory of that margarita pizza stuck with me and I heard raves about the veggie deluxe pizza. Everything went smoothly, the delivery was early by 10 minutes. Bottom line: SO WORTH going through their growing/moving pains. Okay so I've never been there but I've ordered the pizza several times and picked it up. We are city people who moved here a few years ago so i wasn't expecting much in the way of restaurants. I found Amicis and they were good plus since they were family run I really enjoyed going there and watching the surly mom snap at her kids and husband. Anyway, Amicis disappeared one day so I tried Momma Ramonas. They have a cool robot voice automated ordering system I wasn't too sure about. Look how often people screw up orders! But the robot lady got it right. Probably bc she repeated stuff back to me which humans often fail to do. Anyway. First off let me say they chose a terrible name for the restaurant. Who spells Momma that way? Nonna spells her name that way but Mama does not.... But anyway, the pizza was the deep dish chewy crust kind. I got an all meat one and it was really good they diced the meat super tiny and it was like a quarter inch thick. I also got pepperoni and a meatball onion and pepper pizza. I was feeding my contractor and 3 guys after a long day. This guys a bit of a pizza snob. He's from downtown SD and all the time i have to hear about the inferiority of our little hick town, how far out we are blah blah. . But a few eyebrows were raised that night in Ramona. He dug it. Just moved to Ramona and our go to was always lil Cesar's but was just getting tired of it ..the generic taste and greasiness ..noticed this place literally down the street from our house and decided to give it a go.. Ordered the margherita and Molto dolce pepperoni gotta say it was really good! You can taste the quality of their ingredients and the freshness of the dough! So yum I totally loved it and will definitely go back it is a little pricey but so worth it and the crust! read more

We've been in Ramona 4 years now and never been here. We finally decided to give it a chance, aaaand I'm still going to give it one more go in a couple of weeks. We really wanted to love this place as it seems to be loved by Ramona. We ordered a meatball sandwich, calamari, and I decided to order a Boba Thai Tea. I'm giving a 2.5 stars until I get the chance to come back and be impressed. The Good: The calamari smelled wonderful and had a great meaty bite to it. The crust was plain and bland, nothing special to it. The marinara was decent enough. Overall I'd probably give the calamari a solid 4 - the quality of the meat is great, and paired with the marinara it was pretty good. The Bad: The meatball sandwich just wasn't that good. The mozzarella on it was pretty tasty. The meatballs had virtually no flavor and were a little rubbery. There was the color of marinara on the sandwich but not enough to taste it at all. I won't plug competition but I'll say there are much better meatball sandwiches in this town. The Ugly: Thai Tea with Boba. Please do everyone a favor and remove this from your menu. Thai Tea is supposed to be a rich caramel color with lighter spots here and there where the dairy hasn't completely mixed in. It should also be about 1/3 full of boba and ice. The 'tea' I got (pictured) looked and tasted like sweet milk with a hint of tea color but no tea flavor. There was no boba and no ice. read more
