We usually dine at the steakhouse, but since it wasn't open, we went to the Italian restaurant, and we're so glad we did. To our surprise, Jorge (who always takes amazing care of us at the steakhouse) was our server here as well, and he absolutely made the experience. He is consistently professional, personable, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable... truly one of the best! We ordered the steak with parmesan fries and a gluten-free baked pasta with creamy vodka sauce. As big pesto fans, we asked if the kitchen could prepare a simple pesto pasta, and they happily accommodated us. Everything was outstanding. The steak was cooked to perfection, the fries were beautifully seasoned, the vodka pasta was rich and luscious, and the pesto was fresh and full of flavor. Hands down our best dining experience here yet. As long as Jorge is there (whether at the steakhouse or Italian restaurant), we'll gladly continue making the 1-hour drive from North County to Barona. My vodka fettuccine was tasty, hearty and extremely cheesy. I really enjoyed the creamy tomato soup that I selected as the included side, especially since I'm not usually a soup person. Fiancee's ribeye was large and tender. The creme brulee was very tasty, with the expected burnt sugar top note. The tiramisu was less successful, with too much cream to lady finger ratio and less espresso flavor than I prefer. I had to try this Italian restaurant inside Barona Casino last night. We had an order of calamari and carpaccio and they were delicious! Their complimentary warm bread and butter are awesome! Now for the drinks, what I came here for was divine! I had an espresso martini and it was nice and smooth and frothy, really good! I truly enjoyed it. We also ordered a margarita and a Mango Margarita- it was so good I felt like I was on a tropical vacation. My son turned 18 yesterday and we usually go to an Italian restaurant in little Italy for his Birthday for the past 10 years . Because it was his 18th we decided to try this place so he can also gamble for the first time . We had 5:30 reservation for a table of 4 . We were very excited and in a great mood to celebrate such an epic occasion. Sadly, our experience last night was without a doubt the worst service I have experienced in probably 20 years . Our server Garrett was extremely slow and non attentive. He is the kind of server you have to track down because he was MIA . He never checked on us . Even though he knew the kitchen was taking a painfully long time to serve us our food . Never asked to refill our drinks , knowing we had been sitting there over an hour waiting for our entrees . When we did manage to track him down for help , he took just as long to fulfill the request. Finally 2 hours later when it was time for my son to have is celebratory cake and be sang happy birthday, he had to ask the manager to please pack the cheesecake to go because everyone was very frustrated and over dealing with, without a doubt the WORST servers we have ever encountered. Food at casinos are often more known for their buffets. Patrons can gorge themselves after winning big or wallow in their sorrows after losing rent money to a deck of cards. With the Covid pandemic, many buffets have sadly disappeared. Too many people touching serving spoons and breathing on each other while drooling over the serving dish of beef n broccoli. That's ok tho when you have such stellar restaurants such as Italian Cucina as a fantabulous alternative! The restaurant is located on the lower level of the casino passed the Blackjack Hall of Fame wall and down the escalator. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted by the hostess and shown to a table. We requested a booth as there appeared to be some available but were advised they were reserved for patrons with reservations. While it wasn't necessarily busy at the time, we did notice a steady flow of customers being shown to tables throughout our meal. James soon came by to introduce himself as our server. He was patient and informative about the menu and our options. After bringing water and offering a few minutes to look over the menu, we decided on the salmon and short ribs for dinner. Another team member dropped off a basket of freshly warmed rolls. The cheese roll was UH-MAZ-ING. Ask for more if you get a chance. Each entree came with a choice of soup or salad. We both opted for salads, one house and the other a Cesar. The house salad was much more interesting with various veggies. The Cesar was a classic with just romaine, croutons and shredded parmesan. The salmon was roasted well and seasoned perfectly. It came with seasonal veggies and a lemon wrapped in cloth to avoid seeds dropping into your meal. The short ribs came with pesto mashed potatoes and roasted carrots. Definitely a different twist to mashed potatoes but good nonetheless. The meat easily shredded with a fork and was mouthwateringly good. There is a large dessert case at the entrance along with a coffee bar. Some decadent desserts can be found here. The aroma of fresh ground coffee also filled the air which made the visual experience that much more enticing. Italian Cucina is one of the better options for dining at Barona. Will be back. I called during the day to see if I can walk in. The lady I spoke with said I should be fine to walk in as there were not many reservations. I'm aware they only take reservations for Diamond and Platinum members. When I arrived the hostess said I can come back after 9 and said they're booked. I explained that I called earlier in the day. Instead of apologizing and empathizing the hostess was rude. I will never eat at this establishment nor come back to the casino. I think it's ridiculous they cater to their higher tier members. Descending the big beautiful escalator down to the lower level of Barona Casino yields an array of outstanding dining options. First thing you see is the grand, yet elegant entrance to Italian Cucina (the only one currently open). This is an amazing sit-down Italian restaurant, open for dinner Thursday - Sunday. Just a short 10 minute drive down Wildcat Canyon Road, south of Ramona, you think you've gone "down the hill", but not really. The restaurant and service are very much top shelf, but the prices are pretty mid-range (in the teens) for most dishes. The overall atmosphere was magnificent! Not at all depressing like some run down Italian restaurants I've been to around SoCal. The food used to be outstanding here. Huge portions too. A number of the dishes I order regularly seem to have gone down hill in quality. Most notably the lasagna, chicken parmigiana and baked penne. All tables are served a complimentary dish of some olive appetizer thing, bread, etc. with bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Be careful not to fill up on the bread service. Easy to do! The sun-dried tomato compound butter served with the bread is excellent. All composed entrees are served with choice of house or caesar salad, or soup at no extra cost. If I could rate 3.5 stars I would. I'm erring to four due mainly to the exemplary service, atmosphere, overall experience and the fact that you can still dine-in. The food on its own is pretty much 3 star now unfortunately. My wife's Caesar salad last week, the croutons were literally cubes of bread. Soft and squishy. Add to that, their 'rona protocol has them wrapping everything in plastic wrap as it leaves the kitchen. You literally have to unwrap your food like a Christmas present. Kind of tacky. This restaurant is pretty amazing I have to say. The restaurant itself (ambience and decor) is very basic and simple, but the food and service is top notch. We were lucky to have a great server in Brooke, who took care of us like a champ. We started off with the Calamari, and i have to say it was on of the best Calamari dishes i've had in a long time. It had the tentacles and lots of different pieces of the squid. Delicious and tender. We also tried the clams and they were cooked perfectly, again very tender and the broth was oh so delicious with lots of butter and garlic. We both went with the caesar salad and some white anchovies on top. I prefer the white anchovies, as they are less salty and much more enjoyable than the regular anchovies. I was torn between a few entrees including the black cod, filet, ravioli and lobster. I went with the filet and it was delicious. Cooked to a perfect medium rare, just the way I like it. The filet came with broccolini and asparagus along with some portobello fries. This was a great idea but unfortunately it did not translate very well at all. The batter was way too thick for the small mushroom pieces. A lighter batter (maybe Panko) would have worked a lot better IMO. For dessert it was a cappuccino, cookies and of course the tiramisu. The tiramisu was done a bit different and a little too much creamy mousse for me. A tiny bit of soaked lady fingers in the middle. Not one of my favorites. Had dinner here last night and was surprised at the quality of the food and the service that my wife and I received. I celebrated my wife graduating from her masters program with a massive dinner which included several appetizers large entrées and of course dessert to rewind my wife how sweet it is to be done with school. Our server Edgar was excellent came by was always checking in on us it was clearing plates as they became available he also refreshed our drinks in a timely manner. The appetizers that we decided to go with the word of the muscle and clam which was large enough to share with our friend as well as the meat and cheese board. Our meals also came with either side salad or soup which was more than enough to go along with the free bread that was provided in a large side of olives which I didn't care for - I never have cared for olives. Now for our entrées: we went with the lobster tail raviolis which was perfect when it came out I am almost forgot to take a picture laugh out loud also went with a perfectly cut prepared ribeye which came out with a great combination of colors with the roasted garlic as well as the starchy potato the the other entree was the was the Frute di Mare which again was picturesque and tasted wonderful. Last but not least we ended with a New York cheesecake as well as the 10 layer chocolate cake I counted it was officially 14! When it was all said and done we came hungry and left full with the leftovers for the following day! I would highly recommend this place for any occasion. We promptly made our way to the restaurant at 5 and were extremely disappointed by the new reservation rules, and the lack of inclusivity for those who are not diamond members. We were told to return at 8:00 PM to see if anything was available. Mind you, my husband and I had gotten a sitter for our little one and could not simply "wait it out" for the chance at a table at 8PM. who stays up that late? Really wishing the restaurant was as accessible as it was before. one of the things I value most about Barona is the more "family" "laid back" atmosphere. this felt a lil too bougie now. My family and I came here for my dad's birthday and, to be frank, we came here mosty because 1) we love Barona and 2) my dad had free comps for 2 appetizers, 2 entrée, and 2 desserts, lol. Our server was Jacky and she was great throughout the meal! 5/5 for customer service! The food had its ups-and-downs. We ordered 2 plates of their calamari for appetizers; we went big and ordered their special-of-the-day, which was the Surf & Turf; we also ordered the rosemary rib-eye and lasagna; for dessert we got the cannoli and tiramisu to-go. Calamari - 4/5 Yum! It came with 2 sauces: a tomato-based and a pesto-based. Both were interesting and can stand on its own. The pesto-sauce is different; it adds a fresh and vibrant taste to the calamari. It was definitely a huge hit between my siblings and I. Surf & Turf - 4/5 This was the only plate in which the whole thing was eaten. My only complain is that I had asked for the meat (prime rib) to be cooked medium, but it came out as medium rare instead. The accompanying fries and vegetables were all yummy as well as the demi-glaze sauce! Rib-eye - 3.5/5 I wasn't a fan of the fingerling potatoes but the meat was cooked at the right temperature (medium). The sauce it came with was alright -- I think it can use a similar sauce/demi/reduction to whatever sauce was used to the Surf & Turf. Lasagna - 1/5 The portion is HUGE, but I just didn't like it at all. There was some cottage-y looking thing in it that was probably (overcooked) ricotta cheese. It made the whole dish unappetizing so we barely touched it! Sorry! :( Tomato Soup - 2.5/5 We were not a fan of the tomato soup (entrées come with soup and salad). It had a weird taste to it that my taste buds were not a fan of.. Cannoli - 1/5 I personally didn't like it and we ended up throwing it away :( Tiramisu - 3.5/5 Serving size was also generous. This restaurant is very tasteless. We ordered bruschetta to start which took forever to come. The bruschetta was covered in cheese on pieces of garlic bread. Not at all what I expected from bruschetta. I ordered spaghetti Pomodoro and it came drowning in butter. It was up to the brim with it. The photo I have attached is my pasta after I had sent it back and asked for no butter. The presentation of the dish was also very lazy. The tomatoes are diced very sloppy and unevenly. The service is very slow. It took forever for us to even be noticed by our waiter and for him to take our order and bring our drinks. We had dinner here last night and really had an enjoyable experience. We were at their Sage Cafe earlier (recommend!) so we decided to split the Chicken Parmesan and that was a great decision! But first we got dessert to split. We had the Lemon cake and really enjoyed the cake with the raspberry sauce and fruit. Lemon and raspberry is such a great flavor pairing! I love that this resort doesn't penalize people for splitting meals and in fact makes it easier. I didn't expect my own soup or my own plate already split prior to arriving to the table but really appreciate it! Everything tasted really flavorful and good. Loved the minestrone as it made me feel like I was eating something really healthy! Also, the bread basket is dangerous as it's hard to put down the bread and save some hunger for dinner.. The music in the background is actually Italian music which we really appreciated as many Italian restaurants do not do the same. I also love that they have live video of the chefs as you always hear horror stories of what goes on in the kitchens of restaurants... it was cool to watch! Honestly, if you haven't been to this place because you love the Barona buffet too much (which I do), or because you haven't been to Barona at all, then you better make a trip out there. To my surprise, this is probably the best place I've been to with Italian food. Erase that... This is the best Italian restaurant. I'm not sure what it is about this place... Could it be the romantic restaurant? Or could it be the amazing service? Maybe it was even the heavenly food? Actually, I think it's all of the above. I applaud our waitress (her name has slipped my mind and I can't forgive myself), for she had the patience to deal with my mother who was bombarding her with questions. Trust me, my mother can ask the simplest of questions about the menu/etc that I could answer for her, and she asks them several times, but worded differently. (Regardless, I love her dearly, of course. Hehe...) Aside from the patience that our waitress had, she was diligent in checking up on/answering questions, never failed to leave us out in the blue about our food, and not to mention, she was a complete sweetheart. Now, I'll speak about the restaurant itself. This is the perfect Italian restaurant because it completely fits what I, if not most people, would consider an Italian restaurant. It's not the *fanciest* place, but it is quite lovely. There are brick walls, beige walls, wooden poles, long windows covered with curtains, hanging lights with tiled/mosaic glass, tiled floors, and vividly colored carpet. The whole color scheme is dark, neutral colors: beige, red, brown, yellow, white, etc. It reminds me of spaghetti. There is dim lighting, and it has a very romantic atmosphere to it. Enough about all that, I know the FOOD is what everyone cares the most about! My family got the calamari and tomato basil soup for appetizers. The calamari comes with two sauces, marinara and pesto, and a table of 4 or so could share it. Whereas, the soup would be good for one person. My mother kept it for herself, but my sister and I would steal bites here and there because it was that good. Frankly, you could never go wrong with tomato basil as a soup. If you're having trouble picking a pasta, but know that's what you want, why not go with the original and typical chicken fettucine alfredo? The serving size is huge. If you're not savagely hungry, you could probably share it with someone and still have leftovers. Also, they're not selfish with the chicken. If you're craving a pizza, get one of their pre-made ones, or even create your own! My sister got the hearth roasted salmon (I believe is what it's called), and it came with vegetables--no side of rice, potatoes, etc. It was savory, and I'm sure one person could finish it. On the other hand, my mother got the prime rib. It was huge, juicy, and delectable--she couldn't finish it. Thankfully, Italian Cucina was more than competent enough to cook her steak the way she wanted it. Each entree also comes with your choice of house salad, or caesar salad. I had an excellent experience for my first time, and I'd definitely come back, and recommend it for someone who likes Italian food... Or someone who just wants to eat at a great restaurant. We first had appetizers: Very wonderful calamari and also lamb chops and gnocchi. Sounds like enough to eat just there. but then came salad - nice as well as tomato bisque soup. We also had their complementary olives and bread. For our mains, one had filet (awesome) and I had salmon. for dessert, we got two choices. They packed up one - the cheese cake for later and we shared the capuccino and cookies. So much food but thanks go to the staff for a wonderful Birthday Meal Oh by the way we did share a bottle of wine. First off the place is comfortable & cozy & just lovely when u walk in2 it! It's a high classed, romatic atmospher but has crayons on table w/table clothes of paper (like u had in grade school which u had kids on both sides. This place doesn't try to be several different things it is!! All put together in2 1 that all fits! My server Marifer was exceptional! She had to see coupon & think no tip, but she still went that extra length by splitting our entrees in kitchen not just letting us do it. Kept coming to see if we were ok. As if she knew she'd get at least a $20 from us. Unfortunately all i had was $5 tgo, wished i have alot more, she deserved way more!! Now the food! Oh my! Wow! The ceasar house salad looked awful (it wasn't) compared to the house salad which was beautiful didn't want to eat so much color & variety. & tasted as good as it 0looked. Oh they do have bread before food & also have these seasoned olives (I don't care for olives) well they looked interesting so I tried a small bite, then I ate another, then another kind & soon was popping them like candy. Now the baked penne w/vodke marinara was scrumptious it had parmesan & mozzarella melted on top too! Now the ribeye w/grilled colorful peppers & potatos w/garlic butter was so visually beautiful I almost didn't want to eat it! Then I did!! Ohhhhh, it was better than even really good sex! We'd asked for to go containers cause it was too much food 4 both of us but when they came almost everything was gone. It was so good we ate till we realized we were uncomfortable! I don't ever do that!! Then on top of that & not included, the server brought me this humungous peice of chocolate cake w/fresh berries all around it & wished me a happy birthday!!! I'm not a chocolate person but I'l definitely be trying it later at hm, maybe it'll be like the olives... It looks so good that a non chocolate cake person is dying to get home & try it! Barona is not being crystal clear about it, but this restaurant is effectively no longer open to the public. You can't make a reservation unless you are a "Diamond" member, and even when the restaurant is completely empty they will not seat you without a reservation. The decline of Barona has been pretty sad. The only dining options are pretty much hot dogs and tacos. read more
