I have been to Mamitaco a number of times and they definitely do a great pop-up so I knew I had to go for their Valentines pop-up. I really wanted to get there mini heart quesadillas, but I prefer corn tortillas and they only had it in flour so I didn't get it. They looked super cute though. I did get their cute espresso martinis flight, and it was absolutely delicious! I loved every single one of them. It was nice and strong, but not to coffee forward if that makes sense. I originally ordered the birria tacos because I couldn't make up my mind, but at the last minute I changed to the madurrito bowl and I'm so glad I did. This was an entrée on their Valentines menu and when I tell you, the steak was seasoned to perfection! It was packed with flavor and the sweet plantains complimented it very well along with the Chipotle mayo. I really enjoyed the whole combination. The staff was friendly as well and made sure we were well taken care of. I've never had an issue when I've gone and they've never disappointed me. read more

I dined in at Mamitaco with four friends last Saturday. The customer service truly took a 3.5 food experience to the next level for me. Our server Maurico was phenomenal. He let us know that he would be the best and truly showed us. We were celebrating a friend's birthday and he made her and our table feel special with a free drink and the staff sang her a song too. He was also familiar with the FULL menu & could speak to his favorites. A few of my friends ordered his drink recommendations and I ordered an entree from the special Halloween menu after asking for his opinion. I am not sure if the birria crunch wrap will return but it was BIG and flavorful. You can certainly eat half there and take half home. I opted to eat my full one because it had sour cream & lettuce and I felt that it would not warm up well. The fries reminded me of the kind from Mcdonalds, but they tasted fine. I ordered a drink with mezcal & pineapple & it was great. I couldn't help but notice that they went all out on the decor for Halloween! I thought the special menus were so creative too. It was a fun dining experience for adults and kids too. I noticed servers giving cotton candy to the little ones and everyone was so friendly. My party was happy with their food and drinks. A Love-Hate Relationship with Mamitaco! So, picture this: I finally decide to check out this taco spot I've been dreaming about because let's be real--I loveeeee tacos like most people love their morning coffee (or their afternoon tequila). From the outside, Mamitaco looks like a taco palace--really, the kind of place where dreams come true. But once inside? It was like The Taco That Shrunk: the Interior Edition. After taking a seat, I eagerly awaited my water like it was a long-lost friend. Spoiler alert: waiting for water took longer than waiting for my laundry to dry in a monsoon. And don't even get me started on the chips and salsa--let's just say I'm pretty sure it was just salted tomato sauce. I was ready to drown my sorrows in tacos but my enthusiasm was fading faster than my patience! But then... drumroll please... I got my drink, the La Flor! One sip and suddenly I was on a Caribbean island, toes in the sand, and not a worry in the world. We have been loyal customers here for nearly three years, visiting almost every week and recommending this restaurant to countless friends and family. Until now, we've never had a single complaint. The service, food, and management have always been outstanding. Unfortunately, our visit today was a complete shock, and it pains me to write this negative review. We were told the kitchen was a bit behind due to new staff, and we said we didn't mind waiting as long as the food was good. After waiting for over 45 minutes, what finally came out was unlike anything we've ever experienced here. The quality was night and day compared to what we've grown to love. * The tortabirria we've ordered many times came out on a hot dog bun cut in half, topped with lettuce and tomatoes--completely unrecognizable. It should NOT have tomatoes and lettuce! * The steak street tacos, which originally made us fall in love with this place, were bland, chewy, and flavorless. * We traded the tortabirria for mole enchiladas (a dish we've always enjoyed), but the tortillas were dry as the desert and the mole sauce was overly bitter. * To top it off, my garden taco, which should have been vegetarian, came with meat inside! Thankfully, the margaritas and service were still amazing. Our waiter did everything he could and was kind and attentive throughout. I actually felt bad for the servers, because it's clear they're having to carry the weight of the kitchen's mistakes. But while the service was wonderful, the food itself was extremely terrible. The most disappointing part was that no manager came by to check on us or the other tables. In the past, management has always been attentive and proactive. This time, there was no sign of accountability. This was such a shame. I left feeling so sad and disappointed. We don't plan to return for a while, but we truly hope things improve. Very Loud! We were yelling at each other to converse. Be prepared. Ordered the grilled shrimp Burrito. That's what I got. About 15 medium shrimp wrapped in a large flour tortilla. Prob would skip this next time Their salsa is also very sweet and I've never thought that about a salsa. I came here with my best friends to have some great Mexican food and to catch up. I do like that this location does have free parking. This place welcomes all ages and even has employees come out to celebrate those having a birthdays/other occasions. Our server, Mauricio was the highlight of the visit. He was very friendly and knowledgeable of the drinks. I got the signature drink (sad to say I forgot what the name was). The drink was amazing! I wasn't super hungry so I decided to get the Mami dip which was divine and packed with flavor. The dip came with shrimp, chicken and steak in it. She helped us make decisions on drinks. We both had a 24oz La Flor margarita ($17.95). It was so good, and made me feel like I was at the beach. It has hibiscus syrup, 1800 coconut, lime juice, and a splash of pineapple juice. We also both ordered the 2 quesabirria tacos for dinner ($13.95). These were delicious! They are homemade corn tortillas, flash fried in their special sauce. Stuffed with birria, Oaxaca cheese, topped with onion and cilantro. However, I would have loved for the server to tell me what the drinks were on the flight. But the rest of the experience was a bit tough. Stopped in randomly, as we were looking for a restaurant with outdoor seating to enjoy the good weather. We were greeted, and I asked to be seated outside. Took about 10 minutes or less for a server to come, he was very kind and knowledgeable. It was taco Tuesday so we ended up ordering those, along with some alcoholic beverages. Everything looked amazing. Every drink and meal that came out we wanted to try lol. Our drinks were delicious, the ratio was perfect. I ordered a shrimp taco, birria taco and a street corn. The shrimp was tasteful, but the birria had little to no flavor. As for the street corn I requested more of the cheese, and it was good. I'd recommend just asking for extra toppings on the side so you can adjust it to your liking. Ended up getting these little shots from when they celebrated st.patricks day, and they were so good! We seen them at someone else's table and our server was so sweet and indulged us. Overall 10/10 will be back to try more things on the menu, it's a big menu, with an even bigger drink menu. My boyfriend and I came in today for an early dinner, around 4:45pm. We were seated immediately. Very shortly after, a waitress dropped complimentary chips and salsa off at our table. We shared a regular sized queso appetizer, which tasted as anticipated--it hit the spot! For my meal, I got the PC tacos with the fried shrimp. It was breaded perfectly and super crispy. I absolutely loved the flavors and textures. The rice and beans were standard and yummy as well. My boyfriend got the shrimp bowl, which left much to be desired. I took a bite and liked it, but unfortunately, he wasn't much of a fan. The decor has fun pops of color all around. It was a beautiful sunny day, so we chose to dine outdoors. The ambiance of the restaurant feels trendy and youthful. In lieu of traditional Mexican songs, they play Drake, for example. Personally, I prefer the former to the latter. This wasn't a dealbreaker though. My boyfriend would give an overall rating of 3 stars. I'd give 4. Since I'm the one with the Yelp account, I win hehe. We do agree that the prices seem pretty high for what you're getting. We went there with 2 adults and 1 kid because this restaurant was so hyped up in the social media. It was supposed to be the next best thing in the suburbs. We'll, it was not! It was around 1pm on a Thursday and the weather didn't disappoint, so we sat outside to enjoy the sun. The Food: I started off with chips, salsa and queso. The salsa is made fresh in the kitchen. To wash it down, I opted for the house margarita laced with tajin on the rim. It had a nice bite to it - just how I like margaritas. Tried the crispy shrimp tacos lunch meal. The entree comes with beans and rice. I requested black beans and they had it. The lunch portion is BIG! I finished it because it was delicious. The shrimp tacos were dressed with some coleslaw with a chipotle dressing and a crunchier surprise from the pickled jalapeños without the heat. The Drink: Another waiter came out. I guess he spotted my margarita getting low and asked if I wanted another one. He was probably the bartender and wanted to see how it was. Of course I ordered seconds. He got what he was looking for. The Bathroom: very clean. The hallway to the bathroom was draped with a full length mirror and a pink neon smiley face. I couldn't resist taking a photo . I was surprised to see it, probably should've called to check versus just trying it, but that was disappointing. No toy in this not so happy meal. There is full indoor seating, a covered patio, and another patio that is completely outdoors. They have the obligatory grass wall (lol) as well as "instagram worthy" murals and mirrors inside. Service Our server was friendly and did a great job of explaining the menu items. Food and Beverages So let's start with the infamous drink flight. You order a flight and you get four beverages of the bartender's choosing. All the drinks are colorful, flavorful, and with an appropriate amount of alcohol. My friend and I shared a flight as neither one of us are big drinkers. We got a Chamoyada, watermelon mojito, Pina colada, and blueberry margarita. They got us where we needed to be, but my favorite was the chamoyada. We both ordered the barrio tacos, which were delicious and hit the spot. I ordered birria tacos and since it came with a choice of beans, I asked for charro beans. Those are my favorite. I noticed Edward wasn't writing anything down and he didn't repeat back our order. Of course, my tacos came with refried beans. I asked Edward if they were charro and he said the kitchen must have overlooked it. Thankfully, he quickly brought out what I needed. And that was the last we saw of Edward until we were finished eating. Of course we saw him waiting on other customers who had all ordered mixed drinks but we weren't as lucky. That was a problem since my son's order was wrong. He had carnitas in his burrito and not al pastor. It wasn't bad but it wasn't what he ordered nor what he wanted. I think they know their business is in the drinks, but the food keeps people coming. I had the Quesabirrias and they were amazing! Tender well seasoned meat and the fried tortillas were just right. My wife had the bowl with grilled shrimp. It was such a great portion for $10! She only made it through about 1/2 of it. For just $7, the guacamole was well worth it too.
