This review is for coffee, period. I think a coffee shop should be first evaluated for its flagship enterprise, coffee! This boutique roaster offers a full gamut of drinks. I opted for the "mamas house roast drip" for my inaugural visit. It was perfect. The deep rich flavor of this dark roast danced on my tongue the way a cup of delight should. The balance full flavor with low acidity was a great way to show love to your tongue and pick up mental boost. I can't wait to try their other drink offerings and their food. Based on their flagship, I'm assuming it's all good. If I evaluated this place as a "coffeeshop" it would have earned three stars because the hard seating options prevent this from being a place where I would hang out. What's really impressive is there coffee is the most affordable boutique roasted around. ($12 for a pound!) read more

Believe it or not, I'm not a big coffee drinker. I AM a big fan of a good breakfast sandwich and bigger fan of a good soup. My first experience with MJ was a last minute decision to grab a quick breakfast before a long day of unpacking our new house. The menu is cleverly organized, so you can get exactly what you want, how you want. You choose your egg, then meat, then cheese, then bread...boom, boom, boom, breakfast is served. I got scrambled with bacon and pepper jack on Texas toast. It tasted great, service was quick, and they were so friendly...like they were happy to be there!! My second experience was later that week. It was a dreary Saturday, and the kids and I wanted to just grab a quick lunch, but no one wanted McTacoFilet drive thru. Although slower than before (in all fairness, we got there later in the afternoon, when things were winding down), the food was really awesome! The kids LOVED their ham sandwiches (my youngest is a sandwich snob, and this passed!) I got the BBLT wrap (double bacon) and tomato bisque. The wrap was exactly what I hoped for, the bisque surprised me. I don't love tomato soup, or even really like it, but it was dreary out, and soup was calling me. I was beyond thrilled with the bisque! It was thick, savory, Parmesan-y (it's a word now), and still steaming by the time I got it home. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is due to the slightly higher prices than one might like. This is definitely a place to enjoy, share time with a friend, or to give yourself a treat. read more

Okay the dish that I had, Mexican omelet of some kind, could have used some more fresh veggies, but the taste was really good. The coffee was spectacular, caramel macchiato. We stopped in on the way to Nashville from our hotel and thanks to my yelp app this was a good choice. It doesn't always do me right but more often than not it's correct. Cute little coffee shop! The chocolate scone is pretty good- pretty crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (the way I love it!) I had the light drip coffee (black) which was very good. Free refills!! I got two cups, I was a happy woman. They do serve breakfast/lunch, however I didn't try it. The only complaint was that it was slow service (in line). I think that it had something to do with families with small children in line, who were a bit distracted (not complaining! Just stating :))) It can get busy, lots of couples/families come in here- so if you don't want loud, come during off peak hours. Good place to hang out with friends for a good conversation. NOT A FOOD RATING k here's the deal - I came here trying to kill some time on a saturday morning. I walked in and saw the place full of locals showing down on breakfast. Thus, nowhere to sit. Not a bad thing for business, but poor planning on my part. Nonetheless, there were a couple people in fornot of me so I had a chance to scope out the joint, here's what I saw: A limited selection of overprices flavored coffees, 2 origin coffees, both med roast, all at $14/lb (given I pay 10/lb for single origin coffees expertly roasted, I was a bit downtrodden). So I order an Americacno as well as a skinny Caramel Macchiato at 130. 5 min later, i get my order. Both beverages are piping hot. I figure my hands are cold. I go to sip the Macchiato, and I scorch my tongue. Perhaps I should've said something, but I just left instead. I'll try them again - I like their quirky local atmosphere, but their service and accuracy of orders must improve. read more

I would recommend that their drive through only include coffee and pastries. We sat in line for 30 mins and when we were told to park and wait, the worker walked outside and went back in without even looking for us. When we finally got our food, we were made to feel like it was our fault they 'couldn't find us'. Customer service should be a focus area for this business. read more

I first want to say that I don't see these reviews as being anything other than an encouragement for the Establishment to recognize where they need to make improvements. I order the "Sweet Bar"(a dessert)...the equivalent to a "Magic Bar", should have coconut, chocolate, caramel, chocolate chips, graham cracker based crust bottom, etc..etc or something similar. Theirs tasted like it consisted of cheap oreo cookies blended up with I don't know what....cereal, possibly. It was so sweet, not in a good way, that I couldn't eat but 1/3 of it. The turkey wrap was okay...something you might find in a grocery store deli....with a side of salsa that was average. The almond milk latte was average at best. Served entirely too hot...which should never happen. Coffee that is too hot to drink is on the edge of being burnt...especially if it has almond milk in it. The drink lacked any foam or creamy-ness to it... even with almond milk this can be achieved. I've been to Seattle....and this is not what you would ever be served in any Established Coffee Shop, ever. Honest Coffee Roasters (The Factory), Three Brothers Coffee (Next to Cumberland Transit), Dose, Crema, Frothy Monkey (12 South / Franklin), Barista Parlor (East Nashville), High Brow Coffee (Franklin)....ALL of them serving Coffee that's far beyond the quality that I experienced here. For the 3 items I ordered......... $17.00. That's incredible for low quality. I want so badly for local shops to succeed, that's why I go to them, instead of Starbucks. I went to Mama's Java to support them, to see what they are capable of offering. Sadly, I am disappointed. Please, please, please...DO BETTER! This area needs excellence...not good enough. read more

Looks can be deceiving, first time here and experience horrible. Food was cold and most serving stations empty. 2-3 people brought up attention about no hash browns available. Servers over commenting to us almost like she knows the horrible experience we and other customers were having. I am still trying to figure out what they are trying to do for Sunday's. They have breakfast Buffett, a full menu and a drive through. They are running around like crazy and can't keep up, literally one waitress today which doesn't make sense. This was without a doubt the worst dining experience my family and I have had in recent memory. We were there for Sunday breakfast/brunch and each got the buffet. I should note we were the first to walk in the restaurant at 8am. It took awhile for the waitress to come and take our order, which we should have seen as an indication of how things were going to go. I ordered pancakes and eggs to accompany the items they offered on the buffet (hash brown casserole, corn pudding, biscuits, bacon, sausage, fruit). 45 minutes later, I still didn't have the pancakes or eggs I ordered. All the while, we sat and watched as no less than 4 other tables left because they had not received any service. I canceled the pancakes and eggs, and we decided we'd go back for a second helping of some of the buffet items. Unfortunately, they had not replenished anything, so we ended up paying buffet prices for only one plate. Our waitress never filled my coffee, so I had to do that myself. Needless to say, we won't be going back to Mama's Java. read more

We stumbled upon the Sunday brunch this morning on a walk through our neighborhood. Haven't frequented mamas java a ton the last year and a half that we've lived in Nolensville. Fully expecting to just grab a bagel and coffee, we ended up relaxing and enjoying a delicious, hot breakfast. We were SO pleasantly surprised! The service was awesome. The food was amazing. My husband and I just moved to Nolensville, and it was our first time to Mama's Java. All I can say is... Wow! I have never been treated with so much attitude in my life by a cashier and your employees. We asked what the ingredients were in the "funky monkey" and cashier responded "I don't know". Asked if they had a chocolate croinut. Once again, responded I don't know. Overheard two employees (one man and one woman) talking about how they "just want to get out of here.. Just want to sit down". Either they are overworked or just plain rude to all customers. They continued to seem flustered at everything that was asked. This is hardly scratching the surface at what occurred. Plus, they were almost completely out of everything in the pastry case to begin with. We left with an overpriced chai for my husband which has chunks in it? Really disgusting. And a large coffee for me because we both wanted to get out of there so quickly. People, coffee, Expresso, Latte, and iced tea are great. The only issue here is the drive thru. On Sundays its the worst. They allow people to order multiple large breakfast orders and it holds up the drive thru line. Then when you finally get to the window, the coffee is luke warm and the expresso is cold. First, I will say that I get my coffee there several times a week. It is the BEST coffee I have ever had, seriously. I always get the flavor of the day, and I've never been disappointed. On the rare occasion, I'll get a breakfast wrap or bagel to go, with my coffee, as well. Always pleased! Now, with that said, my husband, my 2 year old, and I have been there twice for Sunday brunch. The first time, there was very little on the buffet that looked good, and there was no one around to make our "eggs to order." The casserole that they did have out on the buffet was probably good at one point, but all that was left was one scoop of a corner piece and it was cold. Our server was never around to check on us, and as I mentioned, I couldn't find anyone that would make us an omelet or even scramble some eggs. If you've ever eaten with a toddler, you know you can't waste time in getting them fed. So, we picked what we could find off the buffet and paid $9.95 for very disappointing meal. My husband vowed to never go back. Well, because I love their coffee so much and have been pleased with my breakfast wraps, I convinced him to give it a try again before church this past Sunday. We decided to just order off the menu this time, and our server was NOT happy about it. We felt very pressured to get the buffet. Finally she gave in. It clearly states that children 2 years and younger eat the buffet for free. So, we ordered the buffet for our daughter. That wasn't allowed, since we were not getting the buffet. So, I ordered her ONE pancake. My husband also ordered pancakes for himself. There were 3 nice sized pancakes on his plate, for $5.50. My daughter's pancake came with a cute smiley face on it, in whipped cream. When we got our check, we were shocked to see that ONE pancake with a smiley face on it was $4.29!! Are you kidding me???? Had I known it was going to be almost as much as an order of three, I would have ordered that for her and taken home the rest. Ridiculous. Needless to say, my husband will NOT be going back. So, I'll stick to my drive through coffee drinks from them. But, pretty disappointed in our eat in experiences. read more

My favorite place in Nolensville! The coffee and espresso drinks are delicious and the staff is always friendly and professional. Always inquire about the flavor of the day. They roast their own beans and create their own flavored varieties. Never disappoints. They will even custom make espresso drinks for you - as long as they have the syrups ;).
