Usually, I would try and write something in a poetic vein, but I'm just gonna say "are you joking?!", to use a cliché. Actually, it's kind of disgusting. And I don't mean the food (although it was mediocre and imitation, I'll get to that in a minute) I mean the prices and the stinginess. They just charged me $60 ($56.99) for a piece of salmon and $60 (58.99) for a steak. It was actually a sliced tough London broil posing as a steak but back to the salmon - I have never, ever, anywhere paid $60 for a piece of salmon. I sat at the table with my friend and I looked up the menus of some of the most expensive restaurants on Long Island (Tellers for example which was $31), the most I could find was $38. I am appalled - then I went to pay with my American Express card and they said they don't take American Express yet they sneak in a 4% surcharge for a credit card fee ($7) on top of it and I couldn't use the card I wanted to. I had to use the one they wanted me to. OK, back to the food. The salmon was supposed to be served with risotto but instead of using Arborio/Italian rice, which is what is used in a risotto, they used a plain white rice (much much cheaper), the texture was not even close to risotto and then, of course the steak I mentioned, which was not a steak at all, but a tough piece of a roast, which by the way came out, completely rare when it was ordered medium. My red wine was served in warm glass, I won't even go on anymore. I'm so disgusted with this place do not go, they are clearly gouging their customers... Never -- ever, ever have I seen a piece of salmon go for $60. (I know I'm repeating myself, but I'm still in shock). Oh, and with tip it was $200 for two people. 1 glass of warm wine. What a joke. This place wants your money and gives you no value in return. It's a pizza place basically with a dining room next to it and they're charging price I don't even exist in the highest level restaurants, I would venture to say I could call every restaurant New York City, and not find a piece of salmon for $60. I may do that tomorrow. OK I'm done. I'm too aggravated to continue. read more

Absolutely delicious! The food was the perfect temperature and their penne alla vodka was amazing.

We went there expecting a great slice of Sicilian pizza. That's not what we got. Apparently, the sauce recipe has changed. Didn't taste good at all and the pizza wasn't fresh. Every time I came here for dinner we had to wait over 40 minutes for a table. Once when we had a large group we had reservations and sat quicker but felt like we were rushed & imposing upon them. I unfortunately can't give this place more then 3 stars, and I lean closer to two. The biggest reason is that our waiter was absolutely terrible. He brought us the wrong drinks twice, brought us our salads before we ordered our food (that's just weird), and when the food came out, he actually uttered these words "i dont know which one this is, there's too many pasta dishes to remember". Okay, at first I felt for this guy, as on pasta night there are about 20 different dishes, but you know what, if it was any other job and you didn't know, it's your JOB, so my mind changed as my family went, no, you're job is to know what's on the menu. On to the food. Out of the 5 dishes (plus the refusal to place an order for just one meatball for a 9 month old), none of them were good, they all were just okay. One of them was cold too (and it shouldn't have been). My parents have been here before, and I have to say, for pasta night, it really is a good deal all things considering. The guy behind the counter is helping me, I was right in the middle of ordering and the waiter with the slimly pushed back hair comes up to the pizza counter interrupts me and says "I need this order right now!!" Not what it used to be. Didn't realize it was under new ownership, but now it makes total sense. We placed an order for Mother's Day. Upon calling, they said it'd be 90 minutes. No worries, it's Mother's Day, the place is probably swamped, we'll roll with it. Pickup was at 5:40pm. Upon arriving, the counter was mobbed with people picking up. After inquiring about my order, another customer said "good luck, I've been waiting since 4:30pm." I didn't receive my order until 7:30pm. I contemplated leaving multiple times, but it was too late to place an order elsewhere and while it's delicious, my mom deserved more than a quick burger from All American. In the nearly 2 hours I was waiting, I witnessed the owner/manager refuse to come out and talk to any customers and keep peeking his head out from the kitchen, the woman who usually checks-in tables make fun of a guy for complaining about the wait, and the poor young girl working the counter get barraged with questions and have to explain while management was nowhere to be found. Thankful for the guy who's always there behind the counter for stepping in and apologizing multiple times. He's been there forever, so probably learned a thing or 2 from previous ownership. My mom even called to inquire about the order and the man just hung up on her rather than explaining the situation. They started throwing in low end bottles of wine as an apology, as if that made up for it. I understand things are different now and businesses are struggling, but man, if your kitchen can't handle it, STOP TAKING ORDERS. It was very unfair to make people wait around on a day like Mother's Day. The food was not what it used to be, either. The eggplant in the chicken christoforo tasted like oil and wasn't cooked properly. Such a sin. Used to be one of the best restaurants on the south shore. I'm done with this place. read more

So we visited this establishment on Thursday 7/13/23 at about 4 pm. We've heard great reviews about this place and truthfully it's wasn't as great as we expected it to be. We consider it to be a family style Pizzeria Restaurant. The portions were large, the menu selections and prices were fair. The three negative things that we experienced were a very noisy atmosphere and it serious lacks proper A/C cooling creating a very warm uncomfortable environment. Our waiter service was lacking, wasn't what we would have expected even for this type of establishment. Although upon paying our bill we asked the waiter about the A/C to see if it may have been an isolated issue and he confirmed that the poor A/C has been a problem with this establishment for over 10 years. I don't know if the waiter was having an off day or if he was new and just didn't know the menu. My mom asked if she can change the sauce from garlic cream sauce to just garlic and oil and he said "I'm not sure I have to check". My sister asked a question about a pasta special they had and he said "I don't know about it I have to ask". When I asked what kind of risotto came with my meal, again, "uhhh I think it's plain". I'm sitting here with dessert, and my water glass has been empty for about 20 minutes. We got salads to start and then an appetizer and we had to ask for plates so we can share the apps. It took about 3 minutes for it to come out. Then for entrees, my mom and dad had no silverware, we asked him, he said "I'll be right back". It took so long I had to get silverware off the table next to us so my parents can eat. I just thought maybe he would be on top of things since we spent $200+ dollars. Maybe he had to big of a section and couldn't handle it. Food was good, but don't expect good service from here. Will only get take out from this point on, if I even choose to come back. Terrible service experience. We were here at 4:30 and it's now 5:53 and we asked for the check and still waiting. Mama's makes the best Italian food on Long Island and it's not even close. Hands down my favorite Italian restaurant. Everything on the menu is good, but I recommend their seafood apps (baked chopped clams, mussels marinara, calamari arriabbiata) and anything with their vodka or pink sauce. The mozzarella in carozza appetizer is to die for - a fried mozzarella sandwich on potato bread smothered in vodka sauce. The stuffed rigatoni is incredible. One of my personal favorites is the chicken cristoforo, which is chicken cutlet and fried eggplant layered, baked with fresh mozz and drenched in vodka sauce. That sauce is the stuff of dreams. They have some of the best veal I've ever had from a pizzeria restaurant, very tender and flavorful. One of the few places I can trust to make a proper marsala sauce instead of just making glorified brown gravy. I would recommend the veal ala mama. Also, instead of dinner rolls, they give you fresh warm garlic knots that they'll keep on refilling if you empty the bowl. I also tend to get my side of pasta with garlic and oil instead of the usual red sauce, but that's just me. The red sauce is great as well if you end up going for a more traditional option like chicken parm or eggplant rollatini. The desserts are very good too. Since I don't get to go there often, I always like to finish my meals with a cappuccino and tiramisu, though last time I got the pistachio cheesecake instead, which was great if you like almond flavor. They really never disappoint, and the service is always friendly and attentive. The only negative I have: they sadly changed their menu about two years ago and took out some of my absolute favorites like the braciole, the overstuffed baked clams with bacon-wrapped shrimp, veal rollatini, and the housemade fresh pasta. Despite this, the quality of the food is as consistent as it's always been and the portions are very generous. They do have chicken night and other specials if you're looking for a deal, but I prefer to go on a Friday or Saturday night so I can guiltlessly order from the regular menu for the sake of variety and without feeling like I'm inconveniencing the kitchen. read more

These guys are amazing! Thank you Sammy and the other guys last night who stayed open a few minutes past close because I called on my way home. I pretty much left with a little bit of everything - shrimp pesto slices, grandma, white, sausage and pepperoni, ziti, pepperoni & broccoli pinwheels, and garlic knots. They were all amazing but I have to compliment the shrimp pesto slice especially because it was absolutely perfect. Thank you guys again from a late-night eater- can't wait to come back to try the rest of the menu!! The only thing that was terrible was the service, our male waiter was slow as hell. He always wasn't the best, for example he didn't give us any napkins or even straws for our drinks. I really enjoy Mama's as an Italian dinner place, but their pizza slices are super greasy (more than average kind of way) and often takes me to constant toilet meetings the next morning (Like sitting on the toilet and cursing the Pizza Gods about how horrid it all feels). But, Mama's makes damn good Italian dishes. Guaranteed leftovers (for the average price of $20 to $38, you do get a lot). When busy, service can get bad (when ordering a slice of pizza, I mean). I've recently introduced my friends to Mama's and they all say the same. The pizza, appetizers, pasta, and desserts are always delicious. The vodka sauce is hands down the best but you'll be pleased with anything you order. We make it a point to come here at least once a month. We've had excellent service whether it be takeout or dine in. The servers Greg and Kim are always a pleasure and go above and beyond to meet our needs. I'm no longer a LI native so I asked my dad where he wanted to go. Parking was easy. Not much to look at from the outside, and I was skeptical since it's in a strip mall of sorts but I was pleasantly surprised with the ambience when I walked inside. I was told by my dad that this used to be a small place, then expanded and struggled and now expanded even more. I'm honestly not sure if that's the right story but it helped give me context for the entire experience. I was not impressed with the service from the greeting when we walked in to the waiter, 2 stars for over all attention to detail and lack of warmth. I expected a high level of service for the prices being paid. After our 3 appetizers were served, the table wasnt wiped to prep for the entrees which was awkward. (baked clams had a viscous lemony sauce and calamari it seemed like maybe too much oil was used). I can confirm this place doesnt skimp on portions, felt like a similar vein to family style experienced at Carmine's. Wine portions were at least 10 oz. So you're receiving generous pours for 9-12$ a pop, large glasses are used as well. I can say that the buffalo egg rolls were the highlight of the meal. Strongly suggest that appetizer. For entrees, the penne a la vodka was just ok. We had two orders of meatballs and burrasca. The meatballs were lukewarm at best and the burrasca was really cold which is just an indication of a kitchen staff who don't know how to time it when someone orders an antipasti as their main course. The mozzarella was blatantly defrosted and the middle pretty much ice cold. Let me be clear, the cheese was not crystallized or icy itself, only the temperature was icy. When we told the waiter the meatballs weren't hot and the cheese too cold, he said he would ask and returned to say the kitchen says this dish is mean to be served at room temperature. Right there, I was completely turned off by this restaurant. I'm not expecting lava hot meatballs but I'm expecting some semblance of acknowledgement that we are not idiots. The veal was drowning in a viscous sauce and was decent. My dad ordered the pistachio cheesecake which had a delightful berry sauce to compliment what seemed like a oreo like black crust. Also, the garlic knots were complimentary and when fresh, had a very nice fluff to the texture and perfect amount of salt and garlic. 300$ later, I left aggravated with myself spending so much on an underwhelming experience. I'm not a restaurant snob. I spent 18$ the day before at a dumpling place on sutphin Blvd in queens and got better service. I wouldn't return here unless my dad made me. I believe hes more enamored with the portions than the quality and since he doesn't have anyone around to cook authentic Italian he relies on these local type places to scratch the itch. I grew up on authentic Italian food and this lacked heart. read more

Everyone in the surrounding areas knows Mama's - even people farther out know Mama's and will travel to eat here! I myself have been here twice now and every time the food has been pretty good. But more so than that - the portions on the entrees are massive! Definitely enough for 2 meals so while the prices are a little up there, it kind of balances it out. We ordered baked clams and they were delish. The clams could have been a little bigger and there were only 8 to the order but they were very flavorful. The waiter was really knowledgeable and never disappeared for too long. The decor is nice, dark wood but still modern and tastefully done. Definitely enjoy the atmosphere at Mama's and the deserts were yummy too! Worth checking out if you're looking for a really filling meal and lunch for the next day! read more

Always get the house salad with my meals by decided tonight to get the Caesar salad... the waiter informed us that there would be a slight up charge for the Caesar salad which I totally get. But 20 dollars for two salads is a little more then a "LITTLE UPCHARGE" come on Mama's we don't mind spending large amounts of money for good food but that was very unexpected & terrible wording. My first visit to Mama's but my daughter has been there in several occasions. Only place she wanted to go for her birthdays dinner. The evening we went was Chicken Specialty night.
