New favorite spot! So my husband and I went to Mama's in Copiague last night and wow, what a great evening. The place just feels warm and inviting the second you walk in. We had Greg as our server and I have to say, he really made our night. From the moment he came to our table he was warm, funny, and genuinely made us feel like we were the only people in the restaurant. He knew the menu inside and out and when I was torn between two dishes he gave me the best recommendation without hesitation. He checked in at all the right times without ever feeling intrusive and just had this great energy that set the tone for the whole evening. Honestly Greg alone is a reason to go back. The food was so good too. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were way more generous than I expected. We got specialty cocktails to start and they were so good we ordered another round. Dinner was delicious but the highlight for me was the homemade pistachio cheesecake for dessert. I am not even a big dessert person but that cheesecake was something else. Mama's catered my daughter's first birthday party and they were absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. The entire process was seamless -- the staff was so kind, professional, and communicative throughout every step. The food was delivered with such care and everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. ** THE FOOD WAS GOOD. THE SERVICE WAS ABYSMAL ** This is a beautiful restaurant and I wish I could base this review on aesthetics alone. My family and I are still reeling from our experience here this week. The food here is very good. We all agreed. Unfortunately, we also agreed that the "service" was about the worst we can remember having anywhere. Our server was a male, perhaps mid 40s, light hair, little ponytail, not very tall. We did not get his name. Right from the beginning we noticed something seemed off about him. He was rushing, was clearly agitated, aggressive, and rudely interrupted us when we attempted to ask questions. Appetizer salads arrived at our table even before we were finished ordering our dinners (we still had menus) and when we asked him to *please* slow down, that we wanted to enjoy the dinner, he raised his voice and got visibly angry. We saw him walk away, throw up his hands and shake his head, all in plain view of us. His behavior continued throughout our meal and made the entire experience so unpleasant and uncomfortable. When he brought over a bowl of soup, he said, very loud and sarcastically, "There's a spoon there for ya!" Honestly, he seemed so worked up, I was worried he was going to dump the thing in my lap. Dude clearly has issues he brought to work with him. We also noticed this person openly coughing into his hands, rubbing his nose, and then serving food to another table. (We did mention this to another server as that is pretty disgusting.) We were celebrating a birthday and when we came in we asked the host at the door to please put a candle in whatever dessert we ordered. We provided a bag with a candle. Well, we ordered dessert, but the candle was MIA. Nothing, nada. When we left, they gave us back the bag, but the candle was missing. (!) By this point we weren't even surprised. (And they told us the candle had been in the dessert. It definitely wasn't) One star is for the food, the other is for the kind woman with the long dark hair who also tended to our table for the first hour or so. This is clearly a nice restaurant with a good reputation and good food, but sadly, our visit was terrible; a very bad experience and one we wish we could forget. read more

I moved here a few years ago now and my now husband took me here for the first time about a year or so into me living here. After eating there, the first time, I was like why haven't we come here before? The food was so good. I had been let down by quite a few of the other Italian restaurants we had gone to but after coming here, we go back for most special occasions and order delivery from here. We had our engagement dinner here. It is busy most nights. They have specials on something most nights of the week. Chicken night. Pasta night. My favorite dish to get there is the Stuffed Chicken Rigatoni. So good. Chicken is cooked perfect. And the SAUCE. really makes the dish. My husband loves the stuffed veal when it's one of the specials. I also tried a special one night, the salmon and scallop risotto. Wasn't a huge fan of the scallops but the salmon was good. We are a big fan of their appetizers as well. We have gotten the mozzarella de carozza. It's heavy especially if you're getting a pasta dish entree as well but it's delicious. We usually eat half and take half to go. We also have tried their prosciutto appetizer, our other go to. We also alwayssss get tiramisus for dessert and sometimes cannolis too. It's been a few years that I have been to Mama's since moving out east, but last night I met 3 friends for dinner and it was great to be back! The rain was on our side because for a Saturday evening, wait time to get seated is minimum 30-45 minutes, our wait time was maybe 15 minutes at most! Entrees ordered were Veal and Chicken Parmesean, Grilled Chicken Executive and my dish was Chicken Francaise...shocker!! I have to comment on the Chicken Executive even though I didn't taste it! I have never seen this dish before and it was so beautifully prepared. It was my first time meeting the guy who ordered it hence the reason no pictures but there is a picture of this dish on the restaurants website. This is their description...Marinated grilled chicken, fresh broccoli, zucchini, asparagus tips, fresh mozzarella, aglio e olio and frizzled onion garnish! All I can say is that the guy couldn't stop raving about his dish and although the portions for every dish are HUGE (guaranteed you'll have lunch or dinner the next day) there was nothing but some sauce left on his plate! My Chicken Francaise was tasty! I don't know why it's never a dish I can ever really rave about, anywhere, but the sauce was flavorful, the perfect consistency and I was served 4 cutlets!! Onto dessert!! My cannoli I will rave about!! It was big (of course!!) and the perfect combination of everything that makes a cannoli delicious with lots of chips!! The tartufo has vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream with a cherry and nut filling (2 in a serving). The oreo cheesecake was ordered by the same guy with the Chicken Executive. So I had to wait 20 minutes to be seated (Sunday night for dinner) The service was great, the waitress was friendly and efficient. The plates felt like they took awhile to arrive, but they were big portions. They do provide take out boxes if you can't finish. The food: The calamari we ordered was hard to chew, and not so tasty unfortunately. Started off with a couple of apps and about 8 garlic knots were provided rather than bread. Fine by me. The fried calamari and chopped baked clams. Standard good. Nothing amazing but the calamari came with a shallow bowl of sauce instead of the usual skimpy bit of sauce that makes you inevitably need to ask for more. 2 thumbs up on providing a proper amount. When the entrees came out my chin hit the table. The pics don't do the meals justice. The waiter placed the dish in my hands so I could put it down. Must have weighed 12 pounds. My wife and daughter got equally impressive amounts as well. You may say "You got a lot but was it any good?" It was VERY good. All 3 were delicious. Had tried their pizza and takeout a few times, but wanted to wait till I had a sit down meal here first before I gave my full review. To start with the takeout though, the pizza is delicious and they have specialty slice options galore, and perhaps my favorite buffalo chicken slice. But more than just quantity, the quality is still there. Everytime I've put in orders, they were always ready on time to boot. Now to the restaurant portion. Came on a busy Sunday night with no reservation and had to wait about a half hour, which is what they told us to expect. The place does seem to get quite busy, so don't be shocked if you need to wait. Once sat, the waiter was excellent, I believe his name was Roberto, very professional. They start you with some garlic knots for the table and the we ordered the chicken panzanella and the chicken bellagio. Now looking at the prices at first I thought I really was at the bellagio in Vegas, a little pricey I thought for Italian, but when the food came out, I got why. MASSIVE plates of chicken and pasta that I comfortably did get four or five meals out of by myself. Personally I think the chicken bellagio was a little under salted, but still tasty but the chicken panzanella was done well and everything was obviously very fresh. Definitely would love to come back and try more of their options, just perhaps with a bigger appetite, or more friends to share with! I love Mama's for their specialty pies! The shrimp pesto pizza is my personal favorite, but we also like getting their chicken arugula and chicken marsala deep dish pizzas.
