I was visiting from out of town and a friend had been wanting to try Maman. We couldn't make it another day and happened to be by the West Palm Beach location last Sunday so tried it. The place appeared clean which saved them a star and the staff was friendly enough to friendly which saved them another, if not always prompt. I do not often write reviews but the overall experience irked me enough (keep reading) that I felt compelled to write this one, as well as the reason for two stars. It took a few minutes for the hostess to greet us but once she did she gave us an estimate and even an update when the table was almost ready. So a plus mark there, and it did not take too terribly long to get seated considering how crowded it was. Throughout dining, different servers assisted us. I am not sure if this is their usual operating procedure, and like I said, friendly enough, but it may have also been a contributing factor to my main issue. I ordered "martine's mediterranean steak sandwich" and opted for pastrami over the steak option. Now, as listed in the menu, it is supposed to come with za'atar tahini dressing, roasted red peppers, pickled onions, grated tomato, arugula & chimichurri on a baguette. Overall, this looked really good to me and with some unique flavors but I have never liked bell peppers and prefer to get sauces, like the chimichurri, on the side that way in case I do not like the way the restaurant makes it, it will not ruin the entire sandwich. Thus, I ordered the sandwich, with the pastrami, no bell pepper, and chimichurri on the side. Simple enough. Or so one would think. Instead, when it came, while it looked nicely stuffed, BUT I immediately spotted bell pepper, as well as the chimichurri directly on the sandwich in addition to on the side (kinda defeated my purpose). I notified the (2nd) server the moment he placed it in front of me. He was friendly about it and took it back to have it remade. I again repeated my order to him including the "no bell pepper and chimichurri on the side". Mistakes happen and had that been it, things would have been fine. My friends were all eating (they had tried waiting for my remade sandwich but I didn't want their meals to get cold and we also had plans after lunch). When my sandwich did return it looked completely different. The first time was shaped like a traditional sandwich and may have or may have not been on baguette. Regardless, the bread the first time looked good too so that was not a problem. This time it was definitely baguette. But looked completely pathetic. Here is where I wish I had taken a picture. It had the baguette, and pastrami and arugula...and the tahini, but NOTHING else. What happened? I don't know. I felt stuff was missing but didn't have the menu in front of me, and servers had been hard to grab a hold of and my friends were about half way through their meals. So I ate it. On its own, the bread was good, the pastrami pretty tasty and the arugula was. well, arugula. The tahini was fine but as someone who has recently gotten into cooking with za'atar, I couldn't taste it, even trying some of the tahini on it's own. So while the ingredients on their own were fine, I could and HAVE made much tastier pastrami sandwiches at home. Certainly NOT worth the $17 I paid for it, especially missing half the ingredients as it was. So instead of leaving lunch in a great mood, I left annoyed and that feeling lingered. Other quick notes: My friends seemed mainly fine with their dishes and I did try a bite of my friend's pancake which did seem and light fluffy. Also worth noting, while waiting to place my order I took a look at their bakery section as they don't list those items on the menu and I love baked goods. And I have been to plenty from mom & pop shop delicious to scrumptious artisan bakeries... at midday their pastries already looked tired and the little label sign (I believe) for the Kouign-Amann had a hand note to the effect of "2-day refrigerated". If that was the case, shame on them for offering them as impliedly fresh. Either way neither those nor anything else in the bakery display looked enticing so I cannot speak as to how they tasted. read more

I want to preface this by saying that I rarely write negative reviews. However, after today's lunch experience with my family, I feel the need to share our experience. We started with coffees, which were great. Unfortunately, once it was time to sit down for lunch, the experience went downhill. The service was not great, though we were not in a rush and initially were not upset by that. My cousin ordered the chicken Caesar wrap and added avocado. After waiting approximately 25-35 minutes, the wrap arrived missing the dressing, pickled onions, and avocado. We mentioned this to one of the staff members, who at first was unwilling to do anything about it. Eventually, he said it would be remade. About a minute later, the wrap came back--not remade--and was a sloppy mess. It's a shame I didn't take a photo. Additionally, we ordered a large matcha and were given a small. When we asked for the correct size that we paid for, they reluctantly took it back, did not remake it, and simply added more ice. I was really hoping for a great experience, but was very disappointed. Mistakes happen, but the staff's unwillingness to properly fix them made the experience frustrating. read more

The pastries are usually dry and the cookies are just ok. The food is not good. Have had the tuna sandwich and it's dry and doesn't taste like much. The ham & cheese everything croissant is good. The chicken club sandwich was inedible. Half the bread on one side was a regular slice of bread and the other side was the bread end. Bread ends are there to keep the loaf moist. The bread on the club was stale and I was tasting mostly crust. This was our third time at Maman and it has not gotten any better. I wouldn't go back or recommend. read more

My favorite item was the tomato soup. The fresh blend of tomatoes, herbs, and seasonings had all three of us going back for more. Our sandwiches were just as satisfying--I had the ham and cheese, and the Dijon mustard was the highlight. The crunchy bread and thick ham made it the perfect filling choice. The fresh orange juice was refreshing, though a bit small for the price. The location itself is beautiful. It was too windy to sit outside today, but with the shade and breeze, it's the perfect spot to enjoy a peaceful cup of coffee. Prices are what you'd expect for CityPlace--$58 for two sandwiches, soup, and two juices. The downside is the lack of friendly service. They'll take your order, grab a high chair if needed, and provide a to-go box--but only if you ask. No smiles or extra attention to customer service. It's not bad, just reminiscent of European cafés where tipping isn't expected, and the service reflects that. The food and drinks are not worth the hype and I can see it all dying down quickly. Most things are over priced and don't even taste like they are made in house like claimed. Some of the outdoor seating is just way too small, tight, poorly placed and needs to be reworked. There should be two people manning the host stand on busier times and holidays. My sandwich was beautiful but the egg was undercooked as the white was raw and it truly made it unappetizing half way through. Cookie was a touch dark and overcooked but still delicious. Stopped by this spot in CityPlace after being drawn in by its beautiful outdoor setup and a promising-looking menu. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the ambiance. We ordered the blueberry thyme scone with goat cheese and the prosciutto sandwich, along with a hot coffee. The scone was served cold, and while they did warm it up for us upon request (service was friendly and accommodating), it didn't really help much with the flavor--it was just... okay. The sandwich was where things really fell short. The bread was so overly toasted it was hard to bite through, making it difficult to enjoy. I ended up leaving half of it on the plate, still hungry and feeling a bit frustrated. This is a beautiful little spot in city place that I caught my eye because it honestly just looked beautiful and I really wanted a latte. Stopped by for a latte and ended up ordering food and so happy I did. I had the avocado toast with a side of egg and it was PERFECT. The lattes were pretty average, but they had plenty of seasonal drinks to choose from which I love. Our waitress was so kind and helpful in helping us choose what to order. Let me say this place is very aesthetically appealing. There are some things that I think need addressing, and maybe those things will happen once they're open longer. We went during their first week, and they were open . We went to go put our name on the list, and the girl at the front took our information. When we asked her if they needed our phone number or if we got a beeper, she said no, just come back and 30 minutes. I thought that was kind of odd, and I believe even the owner verified that. So we just hung out at the front waiting because we didn't want to lose a table. So there were other people who had come up after us and got a table right away granted, I'm not sure if they were on the waiting list or not. So soon after that, I went up and said, "You know we're still here waiting. I have been sitting right by her at the hostess station, and then she was able to sit us. We did ask a couple of the workers how to exactly say the name of the restaurant, and no one seemed to know. We sat at a table inside, which was nice, but the basics weren't there napkins silverware. It all looked different on the tables. I did ask for a hot latte, and it came out cold. When it was ready, I could see that it was ready because I was sitting right by where the barista made the drinks. finally, someone went by and saw it sitting there for a few minutes and decided to bring it. And I did mention to her that I had seen it sitting there for quite some time and that I hope that it was still hot, it was but when I said that she's like no it just came up but it didn't I saw it sitting there. The food was okay. I thought the presentation in the way that they put everything was just odd. As you can see in the picture they put all the seasonings on the side just on the plate maybe if that's how they do it maybe it should be in a little Ramekin or something a little bit more aesthetically appealing. I don't know, maybe that's just me. I think it'll give it some time and go back once they get things more on track. I understand they just opened, but from what I understand, they have multiple locations, so I'm not sure what the difference is here on getting it up and moving properly. But I would say the biggest thing is is that they need to get a better waiting system so that people aren't just hanging around and coming back at some random time without no call or no beeper to alert them that their table is ready. Welcome to the neighborhood Maman! I have been to the cafe 3x's in one week. The first trip I enjoyed the Farmhouse Granola Parfait - (I've never had guava which I enjoyed but I don't think the parfait needed as much guava as it came with) and a Chocolate/Almond Croissant = deeee lish. Then second trip I had the Artichoke Quiche: also very good. The last trip I ordered the Katie Sandwich which consists of roasted chicken, basil aioli, roasted red peppers, arugula and I added avocado- very enjoyable despite being very messy. I think if the chicken were't cut up in slices it could be less messy- maybe order this sandwich to go and eat in privacy vs public as it's so messy. I finished the meal off with a Matcha Green Tea Almond Milk Latte = served with a nice amount of Matcha and at a nice temperature along with Mama's Nutty Chocolate Chip Cookie = a must try, very fresh, sweet and perfect density. Our server (whose name I think is Amy) was an absolute delight. I'll be back soon! We arrived for Sunday breakfast around 9AM to a partially filled dining area. Our party of four was quickly seated and we perused the menu having already been familiar with the to-go cafe options. We ordered assorted croissants, which were excellent, as was the coffee (nothing creative beyond drip was ordered). Our table ordered two quiches, a sandwich, and the granola parfait. The quiches were sere served cold, and the server brought the grandpa parfait in a to-go cup from the grab and-go cooler. When asked, she said that was how they do it. Also without a spoon, so we searched for someone to bring a spoon. About 10. Minutes later, a food runner showed up with a beautiful bowl of yogurt and granola, to all of our surprise. We received that as well, along with our confusion. We sent the quiches back asking for them to be warmed. There weren't apologies or clarifications, which given the atmosphere seemed too bad. I think we will stick to the grab-and-go options going forward. Hopefully their training and attention to hospitality will match the beautiful interior in short term. read more
