such a cute Japanese market in Ridgewood with the sweetest staff! i've tried their spicy chicken katsu sandwich and it's sooo good. be prepared, the katsu is HUGE. i always stop by for the grab-and-go section. they have a good assortment of snacks, beverages, cold sandwiches, and side dishes. love love love this spot!

The chicken karrage bowl is generous and balanced. Plenty of rice and chicken so that you're not left with a heaping cup of rice without chicken, or chicken pieces without a carby base. This was my favorite dinner of the week. The unexpected hit was the breakfast burrito. Perfectly stuffed--I have no idea how they fit so much in there. I had it over the course of two meals when I split it in half. Would 100% come back here again.

For a small shop, it has a few signature items that you would expect from Japanese cuisine, but definitely does not compared to the real thing pretty cool that they host local food shops and a pop-up fashion though feels like a real part of the community staff is very friendly

I think I got the wrong thing for myself. The special teriyaki sandwich was too soggy and the bread broke apart too easily with the filling when I ate it. Also it uses a tad bit too much mayonnaise for my liking. My wife said it could use either crunch or acid to taste better. I agree with her. My wife spicy chicken katsu. Hers isn't soggy at all and pretty nice. The yuzu lemonade is ok.

Super small place and there was a white long line but the spam subi was delicious, I will be back for more.

I'm normally a burrito hater but Mama Yoshi converted me into a burrito believer. Their chicken sandwich is praise-worthy, but the spam breakfast burrito was really incredible. Lots of texture keeps it from being mushy, which is why I typically avoid burritos. Overall we loved everything we tried here, and appreciated their selection of Japanese drinks too. The breakfast burrito + milk tea combo was my idea of a perfect morning. One note: their space is small, and you need elbow room for their portion sizes. Plan accordingly.

This is a nice cute store. Not very spacious but there are some little areas you can sit inside and outside. I got the katsudon and the Mac salad. The katsudon could have been a tad bit more flavorful and crispy but it has been sitting out so I can't hold the crispiness against them. The onions, and picked veggies were flavorful. There gave quite a lot of meat and eggs. The Mac salad was pretty tasty and I was pleasantly surprised. A very filling meal and Id recommend.

I found Mama Yoshi through the Infatuation which recently featured their enormous chicken sandwich on Instagram. Since my partner and I are huge fans of chicken sandwiches, and we were going to a show in the area, we decided to stop by for a pre-show treat! We walked into the rather unassuming market and were greeted by the MOST friendly staff member. We placed an order for both the spicy chicken sandwich and the spam grilled cheese. They even let us customize the grilled cheese to only contain cheddar (my partner isn't the biggest fan of American cheese)! The market itself is fairly small, with a few seats inside and outside, but since we came at an off time, seating wasn't really an issue to find. After about 10 minutes or so, our sandwiches were brought out. Let me tell you, the spicy chicken sandwich was HUGE and probably could have fed 3 or 4 people on its own.. we didn't anticipate finishing either sandwich, but they were both so good that we did! One thing to keep in mind is that they currently have fairly short hours, so you have to go during the day or very early evening. Regardless, Mama Yoshis is 100% worth it and we will DEFINITELY be coming back.

Wow incredible new spot in Ridgewood. Suddenly of the best chicken sandwiches in NYC is out here in Queens, along with lots of other must try stuff, including the Spam Grilled Cheese. Make the trip here for the Spicy Chicken Katsu Sandwich, one of those types with a comically large piece of chicken on a tiny bun, which makes for an amazingly satisfying lunch. We grabbed an egg sandwich to go too and will definitely be back for more.

    Spicy chicken sandwich

Pictured is the spicy katsu sandwich AFTER eating half of it. Yes, half. It's really that big. I assumed the chicken would be thin based on how big it looked in other pictures but it truly is a giant piece of chicken perfectly cooked through. The breading is light and crispy like typical katsu and the spice is delightfully tingly. The pickled onions, cucumbers, and mayo compliments the chicken so, so well. It comes with thin potato chips that's nice to munch on in between bites. The place itself looks like a deli but with Asian snacks. It's incredibly cozy and the hospitality of the employees was wonderful. This has to be my favorite chicken sandwich in all of NYC. The flavor, portion, and price will be hard to beat. Can't wait to go back.

Went halfsies w the homie on spicy/reg chkn sammy and they did not disappoint . Enjoyed the spicy one a lot but the classic had a nice sweet taste to it def its own vibe . Like the little grab and go stuff for convenience.

Okay so the prices are little high, the hours a little annoying but the food is great, incredible even. Love the variety of the grab and go sections. Would be an every day thing if it wasn't for the prices (which really aren't THAT crazy but just slightly higher than i'd want) but i'll settle for a little treat for myself every now and then

It's a family owned business. We ordered an appetizer, a few special rolls, and a miso cod fish entree. The Shichimi salmon was maybe the best part of the meal. I think I got the Mango Hawaii, Ocean roll, and something else. The rolls tasted pretty similar. I saw it recommended but it's basically salmon with some sweet chili sauce on top. We didn't expect that.. it's an odd combo. Tasted cheap.. I forced L to try a lil bite of the miso cod and he said it tasted a lil old. Its ok.. I've def had better even. I mean I don't expect Nobu/other exp restaurant quality fish ... it is what is.. it was one of our cheaper meals we've had at a restaurant but we felt it was a lil overpriced compared to the quality we're used to. There was a family eating dinner at a table near us and they seemed to enjoy their food.. Maybe I should've just ordered regular rolls since it's more of a local spot.

Even before the food arrives, the restaurant leaves a strong impression with its stunning Japanese-inspired interior. The space is beautifully designed, blending warmth and elegance in a way that feels both inviting and refined. From the soft lighting to the natural wood accents and thoughtfully arranged decor, everything about the atmosphere feels intentional. It captures the intimate charm of a traditional izakaya while still feeling modern and stylish, making it a wonderful setting for anything from a casual dinner to a more special night out. The food more than lived up to the beauty of the space. One of the first highlights was the salmon onigiri, a dish that proved how satisfying simplicity can be when it is done well. The rice was soft, fresh, and perfectly formed, holding together without feeling too compact, while the salmon added a savory richness that made each bite feel comforting and flavorful. It was balanced, delicate, and deeply satisfying in a way that made it memorable despite its simplicity. The seared salmon salad was another standout. The salmon itself was beautifully prepared, with a lightly seared exterior that gave it a subtle crispness, while the inside remained tender, buttery, and smooth. That contrast in texture made the dish especially enjoyable. Paired with the freshness of the salad, it felt light and refreshing, yet still substantial enough to feel like more than just a side dish. It was a dish that managed to feel both clean and indulgent at the same time. The grilled squid was particularly impressive and easily one of the most memorable items of the meal. Squid can often be difficult to get right, as it can become rubbery or overly chewy if even slightly overcooked, but that was absolutely not the case here. The texture was spectacular--tender, delicate, and pleasantly springy without any toughness. Each bite had a light smokiness from the grill that added depth, while the squid itself retained its natural sweetness. It was expertly prepared and showcased a level of precision that really stood out. For the main courses, both the Tonkatsu Ramen and the Black Pepper Ramen delivered distinct experiences, each with its own appeal. The Tonkatsu Ramen was deeply comforting and satisfying, with a broth that had a rich, velvety texture and a full-bodied depth that coated the palate beautifully. It felt smooth, hearty, and luxurious without being too heavy. The noodles had an ideal texture as well--firm enough to provide a satisfying bite, yet soft enough to soak up the broth and integrate perfectly into the dish. Altogether, it was a bowl that felt warming, balanced, and incredibly comforting. The Black Pepper Ramen, on the other hand, brought a bolder and more assertive flavor profile. The broth had a smooth, glossy texture, and the noodles again had a pleasing chew that gave the dish structure and substance. The black pepper added an unmistakable warmth and aromatic intensity that made the ramen stand out immediately. It was flavorful and memorable, though the pepper was slightly overwhelming at times. A bit less black pepper would have allowed the other flavors in the broth to come through more clearly and created a more balanced bowl. Even so, the ramen was still enjoyable, especially for those who appreciate strong, pepper-forward flavors. Overall, Izakaya Fuku is a restaurant that succeeds on every level. The stunning Japanese interior creates an atmosphere that feels both immersive and elegant, while the food reflects a real attention to detail in both flavor and texture. From the comforting salmon onigiri, to the fresh and beautifully prepared seared salmon salad, to the expertly grilled squid with its exceptional texture, and finally the rich and satisfying ramen dishes, every part of the meal felt carefully executed. It is a place that offers not just excellent food, but a complete dining experience, and it is well worth visiting for anyone looking for standout Japanese cuisine in New York.

The strawberry part was more like a jam, so it was a little sweet for me, but overall a decent drink. I would have preferred crushed strawberries, though. Later, I came back for dinner at the tail end of the day. I was leaning towards the beef curry bowl because I like bolder flavors, but the karaage chicken is a hit here, so I ordered that in bowl form. First off, all the contents were very fresh! The chicken pieces were crisp and tasty. The burdock on the side had a smoky umami that was quite nice - it was the best of the 3 sides - and the spicy mayo was on point. Still, I think I would have gone with the curry given my taste buds, but overall the karaage bowl is a solid choice. Lastly, while the container looks small in circumference, it is taller than other takeout containers, so the portions are really about the same as any other restaurant. The nori fries were subtle in flavor but the nori still made its presence known. All in all it was a great experience. The owners are very nice, also. I will go back for the curry and yakiniku, too.
