Stopped in today while riding my motorcycle to watch the trains at the nearby park. I didn't realize that on Sundays they don't offer a full menu, but they did have the buffet going on. I mentioned I just wanted something to go, and they indicated I could take the buffet to go, or they could make any of the subs or pizza. I opted for the ham and cheese sub and a canned soda. While I waited I had some friendly chitchat with the gals behind the register and a local biker. The ambiance was a typical and friendly small town diner, with a number of apparent locals having lunch. Ten minutes later I had my food and went to the park. The sub was toasty warm with a goodly amount of ham, cheese and veggies on board. Good basic sub. Will have to try and return on another day and try some more of the menu! read more

This is my happy place! Well worth the 40 minute drive from Rossford on a Sunday. The Sunday buffet is under $14 and includes your drink and pie! You can't beat the price and everything is homemade. The salad bar has tons of selections like coleslaw, potato salad, macaroni salad, cucumber salad, pea salad, and all the fixings for a tossed salad. The hot buffet has baked chicken, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, corn, green beans, noodles, baked steak, and alternates weekly between meatloaf and ham loaf. They're both good, but I prefer the meatloaf. When you're stuffed go pick out your pie! If you're too stuffed they will let you take it with you. The service is great and we love Rosie, she's the best. The interior is small town country and is clean and tidy, still hoping to make it there on a Wednesday for their burger special with homemade buns. If you're coming from the Toledo area, the drive along the river through Waterville and Grand Rapids is beautiful. read more

Passing through Deshler one afternoon, my stomach reminded me that it was just past lunch right about the same time as my eyes spotted the Mama Roses sign on Main Street. Parking out front along the road, I entered the establishment and paused, not sure if I should seat myself, or wait. After a minute or two of uncomfortable waiting, the waitress who was helping the lone table of customers paused long enough to look up and ask me if I wanted carryout or to eat there. Once I indicated I was planning to dine in, she invited me to sit at the table of my choice. Soon after making myself at home at a booth along the wall, the waitress finished up with her other table and sauntered over to ask what I wanted to drink. When she returned with my Pepsi, I went ahead and ordered the pizza burger with chips. The restaurant was decorated in what I affectionally refer to as 'small town diner,' with tasteful pictures and food-type signs on the walls. The dining room was structured with a row of booths running along both walls, with tables and chairs down the middle. One item of note was just how meticulously clean the restaurant was. I mean, most mom-and-pop restaurants tend to be pretty clean, but Mama Roses was *spotless*! After a fairly short wait, my order was delivered to the table. While the pizza burger was piping hot, it was conspicuously missing the side of potato chips. When I asked the waitress about it, she looked puzzled, apologized, took my sandwich basket away ("hey, I wanted to eat that!" my gnawing stomach shouted), and immediately returned it with a double-handful of chips. Before walking away, she said they make the pizza sauce in house and told me to enjoy my meal. She was right, as the pizza burger had a great taste, with an especially delicious marinara sauce that was not overly salty, like what store-bought sauces tend to be like. Returning later with my bill, the waitress asked if I wanted a refill on my Pepsi, which I appreciated. However, before bringing my check, I was a little disappointed that she never asked if I wanted to try one of the many pieces of pie described on various signs around the restaurant. Maybe she thought my butt was already big enough, and she was trying to spare me from further embarrassing myself from the COVID-19 that I have already put on? Regardless I gave her the benefit of the doubt and left a 30% tip. PROS: very good food, reasonable prices, and a fastidiously clean dining room CONS: This is a minor quibble, but the waitress was not as overflowingly friendly as one might have expected given the fact that she had just three patrons in the entire restaurant. Overall I rate Mama Roses as being Very Good, and look forward to returning the next time I am in the area. read more

Never had the lunch but went here for breakfast based on the lunch reviews. Let me tell you how sorry I am that I did. The eggs were ok. I mean, how can you mess them up? But let me tell you, DO NOT. I REPEAT, DO NOT ORDER THE SAUSAGE PATTY. OMG, I had to spit it out!!! It was the most disgusting piece of meat I have ever put in my mouth. It literally tasted like dog food as I imagine dog food would taste. I didn't even wrap it up and take it home for my dogs, that's how bad it was. I was so hopeful to find a new little breakfast place but this is definitely not it. No stars from me for this place but I had to put one in order to review. The food is great! Comfort food just like you would get at grandma's. Be prepared to take a nap after Sunday Buffet. Real food - baked chicken , mashed potatoes , dressing and gravy. Pick your homemade slice of pie first! read more

A hidden gem in a town I grew up in. Many choices on the menu but I went with a pizza. WOW!! It was fabulous. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. If you haven't tried this local restaurant I urge you to get out. read more
