Service was quick. The ambience is a diner with lots of tables and a bar. There is background music that is upbeat, which I think is perfect for the atmosphere. There is also a bar serving alcohol on one side of the restaurant. I arrived at 1:30, so there was no line which got my food to me in a very quick amount of time! As you walk in you note the feel of it being a converted diner made to look like a country place. You grab your own menu, seat yourself, and walk up to the bar/register when ready to order. If the first time, you need a minute to get your bearings. Food ordered (3% fee is not using the cash "discount" FYI, pretty common around here and absurd given these OBX prices). Drinks are self serve. Some coke products and excellent tea. This was the end of breakfast around 10:30/11, so it was empty. Service was pretty quick. (they bring it to the table). I thought the breakfast pricing was fair. Shrimp and grits for $12, etc. Especially for the portion sizes. Two things I didn't care for. -The ceilling tiles were crazy dirty and stained and the flor light bulbs were uncovered. -The shrimp and grits needs a re-do. It's huge, with a base of grits, ladels of bacon gravy, and about 5 shrimp and cheddar cheese. It's more like a shrimp, grits, gravy, cheese casserole. I would have much rather had a base of grits, the gravy scooped in the middle with shrimp stuck in it, and topped with cheese. Even with all that you'd think there would be flavor. It was kind of bland minus the occasionally greasy/burnt bacon piece. Also, the shrimp were flavorful but over-cooked and tail on, which is traditional--but in the casserole were a pain in the butt to get the tail off/cut. I know they can do good flavors and plates. My spouse's chicken biscut...omg the hand-breaded chicken was fantastic! My son's baked apples were to die for. You Philly visitors will be happy to see scrapples on the menu - yuck. All in, I would repeat and stick to chicken and the chicken coop.

Last visit, when I got to the food window, there was an overwhelming stench of garbage when I rolled my window down and the pickup window slid open. IDK if it was from inside or outside, but it was horrible! The lady in front of me thankfully pulled away and checked her order, and discovered they had forgotten part of her order. When she walked back up to the service window and explained, the woman at the window just chuckled and said, "haha oh yeah, here it is". No apology or anything. Really rude. They have a captive audience, being only one of two fast food joints for many miles along the 168 corridor to/from OBX. And it shows that they couldn't possibly care less. Really disappointing example of the lack of southern hospitality.

We didn't try the beer wall this time. We came primarily for the food, and I'm glad we did. We both ordered the Angry Chicken sandwich, and it was fantastic. It had great flavor, a good level of spice, and was absolutely massive. For $19, though, it better be big! Honestly, I almost wish they offered a smaller version with just one chicken patty at a lower price. The sandwich has so many great elements, but it's almost too much food. I'd happily order a smaller version. Our server was friendly, but he was clearly spread pretty thin. It took a while to get drink refills and our check. Overall, there were a few things that could have been better, but I'd definitely come back for that chicken sandwich.

The okra was alright. Some fried pieces did not even have okra present. I liked the mustard presence in the potato salad. I do wish there was more potato present. The hushpuppies came out hot and were fried ideally. There was a nice balance of batter to filling too. Regarding the meat, the pork was definitely the best of the two. There was just enough flavor. It was better when the sweet and original BBQ sauce was added. The pulled brisket was okay. It needed more flavor. I also had banana pudding ($4.99). It was very solid.
