I had dinner at Mama D's Italian Kitchen after hearing so many locals rave about it, and I can see why it has such a loyal following. I ordered the lasagna along with Jamie's mozzarella balls, and both dishes felt like they came straight out of someone's family kitchen. The lasagna was layered generously, with rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and perfectly melted cheese on top. Each bite had depth and warmth, without tasting overly heavy. It's the kind of dish that makes you slow down and really enjoy it. Jamie's mozzarella balls were a fun way to start the meal. Lightly crisp on the outside and gooey inside, they paired really well with the marinara sauce, which had a bright, fresh tomato flavor. They disappeared from the plate quickly. The dining room has a welcoming, neighborhood feel. It's lively but still comfortable, and you can tell many guests are regulars. The team working there brought a cheerful energy and checked in just enough to make sure everything was going smoothly. We were trying to decide on dinner and wanted to find a place nearby. MAMA D'S popped up and since a couple of our other options were in the same area, we decided to check it out. The restaurant was pretty busy and there were people waiting outside for a table. It looked promising so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant itself isn't very big, but is cozy and inviting. It's not like your typical chain restaurant. Definitely has that local neighborhood Italian restaurant feel. We probably waited a good 15-20 minutes for a table. Staff were very nice and kept us up to date on the status of our table. While waiting, they offered samples of their bread, then samples of their rigatoni with pink sauce. All delicious! Nirvana was our server and she was great! She was friendly and attentive. She gave us enough time to browse the menu and even made suggestions. My mom ordered the bolognese, I got the chicken Marsala, and my husband got their calzone and added pepperoni. We got the mozzarella balls to share as an appetizer. Everything was delicious, but I liked my chicken Marsala the most. Portions were a good size, as well. They don't have a dessert menu, but they give you fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies after your meal. Mama D's hits every time they just do everything so well. The service is always exceptional, their identity is to treat everyone like family and they really walk the walk. I love their lasagna - they keep some tomato chunks in the sauce, and it's a little less layered than your typical lasagna. So good. Also had their baked ziti and it's a banger. You gotta put respect on the name. Mama D takes your more ordered menu item and takes it to the next level. Can't wait for my next trip. read more

We ordered from mama D's this weekend for takeout. When I arrived to pick up our order, the restaurant was very packed so I was excited to try the food. We ordered the lasagna, the short rib, ravioli, and the garlic knots. I am giving three stars because we were highly disappointed in the portion sizes. Typically, when we order this amount of food at an Italian restaurant, we don't expect to finish it in one sitting, and we did. Perhaps we need to try it in person but for the cost of the short rib ravioli, it was very disappointing to see how tiny the portion was. The lasagna was average, I can't say it was better or worse than most lasagnas that I have had. However, the short rib ravioli was very tasty. It seems the reviews are high here, so we will probably give it another shot and go in person next time read more

If I could ten stars I would! The service here is absolutely amazing! I really couldn't even begin to explain how much we enjoyed our dinner here. We came in a big group for my brother's birthday and we were all taken care of perfectly. They even passed out samples of their popular dishes. The pink sauce was bomb and the cheese pizza was great. The owner came out and he was hilarious! We ended up getting one of the specials and weren't a fan of it so we sent it back. PHENOMENAL service, this place was a delight. You walk in and are immediately greeted with free bread. Then you can play a game to win a free meal. The woman behind us actually won! Our server was above and beyond, made the whole experience so fun. My eggplant Parmesan with pink sauce was sooooo good I cannot overstate how delicious it was. When they bring your food out, they come out with a bucket of shredded Parmesan cheese to top it!! Small but relevant detail: the fountain drinks were crisp and delicious. I had high hopes for Mama D's but felt it was just basic... and didn't really stand out from other Italian restaurants in the area. I ordered takeout on Door Dash last month. We shared the garlic knots (they were very tough), Rusty's baked ziti (just okay), Chicken Mama D's with penne (not flavorful and super bare). I think what disappointed me most was they forgot to include the added large meatball to my order (which I paid for). When we got home and realized it was missing from the order, I called to see if they would refund the meatball charge. the girl took my info and said she would call her manager to have it refunded. It was never resolved. Can't say it impressed me enough to want to come back sadly. Located inside Rolling Hills Plaza Torrance CA Mama D's is a perfect combination of homestyle Italian restaurant and an moderately upscale restaurant that you wouldn't mind going for all occasions. The food was scrumptious. I just loved loved their Chicken Mama D's. Bite size Chicken Fillet Sautéed in a White Wine Butter Sauce with Mushrooms, Onions, and Bell Peppers. Our server Victor recommended the angel hair pasta. I placed my trust in his recommendation and it paid off. The thin pasta went well with the White Wine Butter Sauce, sopping up just enough to complement the tender bite size chicken pieces. This was my favorite dish by far. We also spit a bowl of Minestrone Soup. A light vegetable rich soup without beans (the way I like it). The baked clams were so so. Too much breading and too small clams but the butter garlic sauce that it was baked in was excellent. Victor, our server was personable and made our dining experience a good one. I've always wanted to try Mama D's and happened to be in the area here! It seemed like they just opened this location, so I was excited to try it. Parking is plentiful and very easy to park. We ate here for Mothers Day weekend and we came here quite early for dinner around 5pm. There were plenty of available seats at that time so we were about to get seated, until the employee upfront told us that there's a game that we can play while they set up the table haha. It's a fun way to pass the time, cause I really got persistent in trying to get it to 10 seconds for that free meal hahah. They also offered us garlic bread! Once we were seated, they actually offered even more garlic bread. They have an extensive menu, luckily not too overwhelming, but I ended up having us to order the caesar salad, pink sauce pasta, and a cheese pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and bell peppers. They do charge for each topping, which is pretty unfortunate, but that is how you would be able to 'customize' your own pizza. It didn't take too long for our order to be prepared. Everything was actually quite efficient. The boss(?) was there checking around all customer tables, snapping at the servers to hurry, which I lowkey feel bad for the workers lol, but trying to gain the best experience for the customers. I saw he was even doing a card game with another table behind haha. Anyways, onto the food, the caesar salad was pretty standard, nothing too special, but pretty nice to have to balance all the carbs. The pink sauce pasta was quite good! The pasta they use is large as well, so it soaks up all the nice good pink sauce with it. The pizza might be my parents favorite. Crust was perfect, it wasn't too burnt, the cheese was cheesing, and the toppings were pretty fresh. Everything was pretty tasty here. The serving portions here are a bit smaller (or at least enough for 1 serving) ompared to family syle servings, but luckily we weren't too hungry so it wasn't definitely enough for all of us. The service was so quick, they already brought our check and to-go boxes as we were still eating lol. We ended up paying in cash to get 10% off, but they somehow got mixed up with our cash and gave us less change. I was worried we were gonna have to start an argument since we were having a nice experience, but the boss came and admitted that he had miscounted our check. Everything was all well in the end. Overall, this is a nice restaurant, great food, and emphasizes on the core value of FAMILY. It atmosphere honestly reminds me of Bucca di Beppo, but in a modern fashion. I just found my new favorite spot for Italian cuisine in the South Bay! I spotted Mama's D's the other day at Rolling Hills Plaza and I instantly made plans to eat here. I've always wanted to try Mama D's and I am so excited that they now have a Torrance location. The service was excellent from the start. They instantly brought out some complimentary Focaccia bread and olive oil dipping sauce. I loved the warm, soft bread topped with Parmesan. It was the perfect starter. We chose to get the Sammie's Stuffed Mushrooms ($13.99) for our appetizer. This came with seven fresh mushrooms filled with a tiny mushrooms, seasoned bread crumbs, fresh herbs and topped with mozzarella cheese. This appetizer was so flavorful. The mozzarella topping added a nice cheesy touch. Being a mushroom fan; I enjoyed this appetizer very much. For our main course, we got Mama D's Famous Pink Sauce with Angel Hair Pasta ($22.99) with a large homemade meatball ($4.99). Wow! I can see why the pink sauce is famous. The pink sauce is amazingly creamy. They make it out of fresh grated Parmesan cheese and cream blended with marinara sauce. They don't skimp on the sauce and the angel hair pasta was richly smothered with the wonderful pink sauce. The homemade meatball was huge and hearty. They have a sign at the restaurant that says "At Mama D's Diet Starts Tomorrow" and I can tell you this pasta was worth every calorie. It was a true treat! Our meal here ended with them giving us some complimentary chocolate chip cookies. The cookies were freshly baked and warm. They were soft and the chocolate chips were delightfully gooey and messy. It was the perfect dessert to end a wonderful meal! I absolutely loved my first visit to Mama D's and I know it will not be my last! I hope to be back to try some of their lunch specials. They also serve freshly baked bread tableside, sprinkled with Parmesan and paired with garlic and oil, creating an idyllic dipping sauce. We were so excited to try the mama D's new location in Torrance. When we arrived, we were greeted at the door with fresh bread. We were seated outside on their patio section. The ambience was just a small hometown feel. I love that this place does not feel like a commercialized restaurant. The owner of the restaurant had been there while we were there and came and greeted us as well. He was so friendly and so welcoming. The food was just as delicious as we remember from the Hermosa location. My husband had the chicken parmigiana and I had mama ds famous pink sauce. I was really looking forward to a cannoli for dessert, but unfortunately, our server let us know that this location does not have cannolis at this time but they are working on it. We did get complementary chocolate chip cookies for dessert that were perfectly cooked. It made for a very special and nice date night. The music did kick on around 530/6pm and was a little loud but they lowered the volume after a couple songs which was nice. Highly recommend giving this Italian restaurant a chance. My brother and I ordered on Door Dash thinking it was Mama D's and it wasn't. I guess Mama D's closed and the new owner changed the name to Mama Ciao's. The food is bland and for the price it was not worth it. I ordered the short rib ravioli which cost $28.00. I opened the container and it came with 5 tiny pieces of ravioli and smelled and tasted like old oil. It was not even edible. The bread was stale and hard and was put in the foil like someone had pulled it apart with their hands. Pieces here and there. Please do not waste your money on this place it's disgusting!!!! I believe location was a business that sold Macaroons years ago. It is near the AMC Theaters. Now Mama D's is here! Food was delicious, but what also made this place special was the service. From the moment my wife and I walked in, we were greeted with freshly baked parmesan bread, and a fun game of stop the digital timer to see if we would get a free meal. You can tell that the people here go the extra mile to make this fun and inviting. We had Anton's Pasta Roma and Short Rib Ravioli. I'm grateful this is not one of those typical American pseudo-Italian restaurants that serve only spaghetti, fettuccine alfredo, and pasta drenched in marinara sauce. Located in the middle of the Rolling Hills plaza near the AMC, Mama D's is a small restaurant featuring comfort Italian food and great service. As soon as you walk in, someone greets you and offers you a sample of their focaccia bread. We came on a Saturday around 7 and it was busy but not packed so we got seated pretty quickly. Once you're seated, they give you a basket of more focaccia bread and this lovely roasted garlic oil. The bread was fresh, soft, and generously sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. My boyfriend ordered the fettuccine alfredo with chicken and I got the tortellini special which was a sampler of their different sauces (famous pink sauce, alfredo, marinara, and broccoli pesto). It wasn't on the official menu but I saw another Yelper post a pic so I asked about it. The special was $47 but worth it because it ended up being 3 meals worth for me. We also got the Jamie's mozzarella balls with marinara appetizer to share. All the food was great and the customer service was very friendly, even the owner(?)/son of Mama D came and introduced himself and asked how our dinner was which I thought was very nice. When the bill came, they also gave us a homemade cookie and someone came around giving samples of their pizza so needless to say we were absolutely stuffed by the end. My only small complaint is that we were seated outside so it may have been why but our server didn't really check up on us during our dinner and our waters never got refilled as it seemed they were busy with a larger group inside. First time here and the restaurant itself is a little small but was able to house our large party of 24! We tried a lot of dishes from appetizers to their special short rib raviolis. (Which was mid) The waiters were super helpful, but unfortunately they did forget some things. But on the plus, we got some free appetizers while we waited. From the start at check in, there was an awkward interaction between the manager and a staff member where he made a snarky comment to her that was off putting. It was obvious she thought so too. Eggplant Parm & Meat Ravioli for entrees. We shared the Italian salad which was easily enough for two but we had to ask for an extra plate so we could share. The salad is served on a plate with the various items separated into sections. Good luck mixing the items together on a plate. A larger semi shallow bowl would make more sense as the plate made it difficult. But the meal took a total turn for the worse when the manager sat down to chat with a couple he seemed to know. We were seated in their side patio with 6 or 7 tables in very close proximity. The manager decided it was appropriate to tell a story about the terrible rat infestation at what sounded like a former location. He went into waaay too much detail about their rat problem and we immediately lost our appetites. Who talks about rat infestations in front of customers eating a meal? Totally inappropriate and disgusting. Very disappointing and kicking myself for not going to the other fine Italian spot across the street. read more

They checked on us at the right amount and had that good New York Italian feel to it, something I haven't experienced since living in NYC. Very open and welcoming service that treats you like family. Always wanted to try it out and happy they opened closer to me than the Hermosa location. They had a fun game where if you win, you get free food! Everyone is so kind and we were immediately greeted once we entered the restaurant. While waiting for a table we were given free bread (they also have samples of pasta while you're waiting). Aurora was our server, she was so kind and sweet!! She took care of us and made sure we were happy with our order. Hi, I'm that girl at your table. You know the one. The one who pulls out a plastic card listing multiple food allergies and says, "So... fun fact... one wrong ingredient could take me out." Mama D's in Torrance? Didn't blink! Our server Victor deserves a standing ovation (and possibly a parade). From the moment I handed over my allergy card, he was calm, kind, informed, and took it seriously--not in a nervous way, but in a confident "we've got you" way. He walked me through the menu, made excellent recommendations, and double-checked everything so I could relax and enjoy dinner like a normal human instead of a food-anxious raccoon. And let me be clear: This wasn't just "good for allergy food." This was fresh, expertly prepared, genuinely great food, period. Bonus: there's a game you can play to win a free dinner--and my husband won. Woohoo! That said, I feel like I'm the real winner, because I'm alive, happy, and typing this review instead of explaining myself to EMTs. Already starts your visit with fun energy. The staff is friendly and make you feel comfortable. The vibe makes you feel like you're family. And the food! This was our first time trying Mama D's in Torrance since I've only tried the Newport Beach location, but this one was honestly even better! The location is in a big plaza with a lot of different restaurants. We were given freshly baked bread while we were waiting for our table which was so nice. Our waitress, Aurora, was absolutely amazing and gave great recommendations including the short rib ravioli which was one of the specials. The food came out really fast and was delicious!! We came to Mama D's for a birthday celebration and had such a warm, welcoming experience. The staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. We originally ordered the short rib ravioli but didn't really love it, they were so kind and happy to switch it out with no hassle. We ended up with the lasagna, which was delicious. We also tried fried ravioli which was our favorite, seriously the best thing we had! They even sang happy birthday and brought out a bubble machine and cookies which made the celebration extra special, especially with kids! We also noticed the fun "make your own pizza" experience for kids, we didn't try it this time, but I would come back for that. It is a bit on the pricey side. But overall the service, and experience made it totally worth it. read more

This is going to sound like a broken record. New pizza spot in Torrance - let's go. Got my goto Pepperoni and Mushroom pizza. What I really liked about this pizza was that the sauce was mild but flavorful, pepperoni wasn't overly salty and the cheese was gooey. The service was very friendly. They even let me sample their garlic bread and chocolate chip cookie. read more

The service was great that chicken marsala lasagna with pink sauce, pink sauce and chicken, and bread fresh from the oven taste amazing my server's name was Theo, I believe if I have his name correct. There was another one person working with him tonight. Her name was Cristina. She was adorable and had great and had great service towards us. She did absolutely amazing checked in on us often right as I was going to call over for more napkins for more bread, more or more drinks she was there before I could get to her outstanding job. must go back tomorrow. read more

Delicious food! And attentive service. We came on a Saturday night around 7pm and got the last open table. The waiter was clearly busy, so it would be a while in between when he stopped by, but he made sure to take care of us! The free bread they serve is delicious. Ordered the chopped salad to start, which was the only thing I'd skip in the future. For entrees, we got the famous pink sauce, the lasagna, and the eggplant parmesan. Because the food was taking a bit, they brought us minestrone soup and pizza slices, which was delicious (and so kind of them). By the time our food came, we were stuffed, but the entrees were delicious. And tons of leftovers! Will be coming back. read more
