Starting out the puppy…read moreprocess was incredibly stressful for me because I wanted to find the right breeder and ensure the puppy was from a legitimate source. I am happy to say that after months of searching I found the perfect place. Ann is amazing with her puppies and you know she loves her animals dearly. I wasn't able to meet her or the puppies in person until pick up but she asked me what I was looking for in temperament and activity and picked me this perfect little love bug I have today. I had the chance to video chat her, she showed me around and we talked for a long time. She truly knows what to expect from each of the pups she raises. She's very honest and up front about what she expects from the future owners and answered every single one of my million questions. I've had my little puppy for only one week and she is incredibly sweet and smart (she picks up on commands very quickly). Ann has a cat and this made me even more comfortable because I was able to see them with her cat and how they interacted (they get along very well). Even after we brought Kida home with us, Ann would reach out and check on us and Kida. I still ask her a hundred questions. She's amazing and I would highly recommend her.

Buyer Beware: My Experience with Watchman German Shepherds…read more If you are considering purchasing a puppy from Watchman German Shepherds, read this first. What started as an exciting journey to bring home a well-bred, healthy German Shepherd ended in heartbreak, medical uncertainty, and a breeder who refused to take responsibility for a likely genetic issue in his breeding program. A Puppy Expected to Be Healthy In February 2024, I purchased Charlie, a German Shepherd from Watchman German Shepherds, believing I was getting a healthy, well-bred dog. Despite proper care, routine vet visits, high nutrition diet, and safe environment, her body failed at just 11 months old. A Rapid Health Decline With No Explanation Charlie was diagnosed with panosteitis (growing pains), but her condition rapidly worsened. She lost energy, stopped eating, and dropped from 70 lbs to 49 lbs. Her spleen became inflamed, and her bloodwork was critically low. I consulted multiple veterinarians and specialists, running dozens of tests. What the Specialists Found: * All infections, bacterial diseases, and illnesses were ruled out. * She was tested for cancer three times--each was negative. * No environmental cause was found--no toxins, food issues, or hazards. The overwhelming medical consensus was that Charlie suffered from a congenital autoimmune disorder--a genetic defect that caused her body to attack itself and organs to fail. Despite aggressive medical care, Charlie passed away at just one year old. The Breeder's Response: Denial & No Accountability When I contacted George, the breeder, he: * Denied responsibility, claiming none of his puppies had health issues. * Disregarded medical findings, despite multiple specialists saying this was likely genetic. * Blamed my home, yard, or vet, despite all environmental causes being ruled out. * Refused a refund, even with documented proof of a genetic defect. * Retracted his offer of a free puppy when I mentioned informing others. This shows he is far more interested in keeping his reputation than caring and understanding for the well being of his dogs. Several of Charlie's littermates did not survive past eight weeks, which George originally confirmed, then later denied. A Breeder Who Prioritizes Reputation Over Responsibility I did not write this review lightly. I lost my dog too soon, and I want others to know the risks. If you buy from Watchman German Shepherds, be prepared for zero support if your puppy develops serious health issues. If you want a breeder who stands behind their breeding program, look elsewhere. P.S. google did not let me leave my full review. If you want to see this in more detail please go to his facebook page. I left a full review there

Perhaps it's because "we know what we have" and can validate our purchase and experience with the company. I live in an affluent area of Northern Virginia and traveled 4 hours, at least 3 times in addition to FaceTime visits. For those who are potential buyers, please take caution in utilizing the negative feedback as your sole purchasing decision factor. As there's one thing clear, they are not purchasers. If they're complaining of $20 (a rightful business practice) over the multi-thousand dollar commitment to ownership than that's as questionable as the intent of the review left. I had the pleasure of working with Jeff for nearly a year now and often refer family and friends to his business. There's actually a screening process that is required before purchases are even considered. Meaning those that were turned away or escorted off the premises did not meet minimal criteria as a buyer (they're not potential buyers). You cannot buy your way in, meaning that it's already an assumption (not a discovery) that you have the financial means to purchase. Paying for a FaceTime visit or puppy visit may provide an eyelet into available puppies but doesn't secure your place as a qualified buyer or guarantee ownership. Admittedly, a tough sting for our privileged society. It's evident in some of these reviews the unfamiliarity with breeding programs, as key signs and quality markers were missed or taken as insults. While there are professional signs of a qualified breeder that we'd agree upon, you actually want a breeder and business owner who prioritizes the life of his animals over even a scheduled visitation. Business hours are not synonymous to scheduled visitations. Anyways, I was one of the inquirers who called while Jeff was handling delivers. Lo and behold, I called on the day Ada was born. I was interested in another puppy but yielded to Jeff's expertise and matching process. It's actually more of a laughable joke now as I was originally interested in a traditional yorkie despite calling a specialty boutique. In a moment of transparency with Jeff, I stated that I didn't think I could care for a specialty pup. He provides lifetime pup support so he gratuitously accepted my challenge and met it with multiple education sessions. I acquired her about 8 months ago and she's been a blessing daily and abroad our travels.

Aside from the 18 page sales agreement that is overreach at its best and insanity at its worst. "If the puppy or dog is found to be allowed running freely or creating a public nuisance, the breeder has all rights to repossess the puppy from dog wardens, SPCA, rescues, etc." So if, dog forbid, something horrible happens and your dog gets out, she expects you to sign a document that she can take your dog? Then, there are unspecified other instances like "If the puppy or dog is found to be neglected, abused or allowed to live in poor living conditions, the breeder has all rights to repossession of this pet with no refund." So, if she feels that his nails are long, she could take your dog? How about if your dog appears too thin or too fat? There is no way to know what that means because the contract is non-specific and you are not allowed to ask questiions or get any clarification on the contract or the response is "If there are many concerns, then maybe I am not the right breeder for you." The worst part is that you aren't done with this woman when you get your puppy because the contract requires that the "Buyer will send pictures and/or updates to the breeder periodically (minimum of once yearly) so the breeder knows the dog is doing well. This can be accomplished via text, email, or Facebook" and "The Breeder has the right to forbid/prohibit any transfer of this animal to a third party." So if something happens to me, I don't get to decide who gets my dog? It goes on and on under the guise of caring for the best interest of the dog. However, there is also a very specific food and supplement requirement. As it turns out, this food company pays a sales commission of 15% - 45% commissions plus additional bonuses. (this is my shocked face!) The breeder takes the liberty of setting up an account for you in your name with your address and email and adds over $200 of products to your cart (on repeat auto-ship) and you just have to put in your credit card information. One might leap to the conclusion that she is making money off the food she requires that you feed YOUR dog. She specifically mentioned that the puppy I was interested in bonded only with her. Several people visited and the puppy would not interact with them. He ran to me. I held him and he didn't want to go down. I noticed in a video, the way he interacted with the other pups that he was going to need some extra socialization and work to build his confidence so he didn't end up a fearful adult and mentioned that I had a plan for that. However, none of that was good enough because I refused to buy the $70 a bag dog food, and over $50 supplements that it certainly appears to me that she makes money on (for longer than the adjustment period to wean the pup to a new diet) and I had questions before signing a document that listed numerous reasons she could reposess my dog. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. I wish I did before I fell in love with the little guy that she won't sell to this dachshund Mum of 35 years with impeccable references.
