They came out to give us a second opinion on our water heater today, and quoted us $7500 to replace it. This included removing the old water heater, buying a new one, and labor for installation. Within an hour of them leaving I found the exact same water heater for sales at Lowe's for $1000 plus tax, meaning they were trying to charge me almost $6500 for installation and labor. Have it ordered and have someone else coming to install it Monday for a couple hundred dollars. Talk about a rip off. Highly suspect this has to do with my house being in a nice neighborhood. Beware if you use this company they will try to rip you off if they think they can. read more

Had a plumber come out to my house 2 weeks ago for an inspection on what was a pretty easy fix. Just a couple of tubes that needed to be replaced. First, he overcharged to fix the leak (this was his first attempt at getting out of the job because it was late and a Friday). Second, he said he needed to get permission from my HOA to shut off the water, because our turn valve didn't work... sure bud. Waited 2 weeks for an estimate he said he would send and it never came. Today - I called Parker & Sons, they had someone here within an hour and he fixed the problem already. Don't waste your time with people who don't want to do their jobs. read more

I had a sump pump installed 2 days ago. The work was done properly. The biggest problem with the service was that I never received any information on the pump that was installed. I was never given the brand and model number plus the Owners Manual on the equipment I purchased from Maloney Pluming. I don't know why I wasn't given this information and necessary document. All I got was an email invoice after I had to call and requested for my invoice be sent to me as promised. I have emailed the company requesting the brand and model number but haven't gotten a reply. read more

Had them look at our tenant's shower valve. The tech claimed the valve was old, likely original to the unit(1980s) and that parts would be hard to find. They send us a quote to replace the valve for $2500. Based on some simple research I determined the brand(name brand) was more likely installed in the 2000s and that replacement valve cartridges are $20 at Home Depot. I was able to replace it myself. If Home Depot has it on the shelf, this dude for sure had the parts on his truck. At best these people are incompetent, at worst they're shady. Trying to sell us things we don't need. Can only rate base on the co. sending out a tech but not actually DOING anything. I communicated w/the office staff that I needed a leak located and fixed; she assured me (as does their website) that their techs can precisely locate the leak, then fix it. From THEIR website: "An experienced Maloney Plumbing plumber with an electronic leak detector can easily pinpoint the source of your pipe leak, without the hassle of knocking down walls or floors." When he showed up, I asked where this elec. leak detector was? He said he didn't have one and they didn't do that; that they hire a leak location co. to do that once they determine there IS a leak! I already knew there was a leak based on my ridiculously high water bill, and communicated this to the office person who scheduled the appt. He said he could leave rather than charging me the 'promo price' of $40 and I welcomed that, since I didn't need him verifying what I already knew; I just needed precise location so I could have it fixed. I ended up hiring a professional Leak Locator who dug up EXACTLY where it was, then hiring a different (of course!) plumbing co. to actually fix my leak. Be careful wasting your time with empty promises if you're seeking their locating services...you will be disappointed. read more

They would put in a new one or me and gave me a price. I found Lupe to be honest telling us to get other opinions. I had an occasion to call Maloney for a blockage in the drain. Sewage backed up into both tubs and both toilets. Both bathrooms. Hard to say what their actual work is like...they rescheduled me FIVE times over the nine days. Never did get here. NO show. The front end scheduler is completely incompetent. Refused to keep appointments. She'd called a few minutes before the end of the window of time to tell me that they had some complications and couldn't make it and needed to reschedule. Then D*****e would start but then claim that she couldn't do it at that time and move onto the next day when the entire process would start again. They either stood me up or showed up when they hadn't made an appointment. In terms of prioritizing the jobs, short of a water main breaking, what could be more of a crisis than two tubs with poop and two toilets in similar condition?? What could possibly be more urgent? If you have a plumbing need, move on to next company unless you like smelling sewage in the heat in which case continue with Maloney...Maloney the baloney company, cause that's what you'll get. I am wondering how they could get any rating above one star. Maybe a discount on services in exchange for a higher rating?? Seems like a good bet. As for my issue? I did call another company. We made an appointment and the plumber showed up on time. In 90 minutes, he flushed the backup, cleared the line, sent the camera down, identified the breach in the line neither Parker and Sons nor Maloney diagnosed or repaired correctly, and fixed the breach all for $300. All this four days before the last appointment setup by D****** which of course they never showed up for. read more

I called Maloney plumbing to replace a six year old water heater that they had installed. they came out promptly and told me it was not under warranty as the couplers failed but not the tank (their prior installation). They then quoted me $5,000 to replace a 50 gallon direct vent gas water heater. I turned them down and had 3 other quotes for the exact same water heater and installation for $2800-$3000. The water heater costs $1750 to buy retail. hard to justify $3250 for a few hours of work installing it. this is price gouging at new heights. Ok so a bit of the back story. My husband and I recently moved into our new home and needed a washer/dryer. Ordered a brand new expensive pair, including a gas dryer as the gas line was "set up" for it. Appliances arrive only to have the delivery guy tell us the gas line was not set up correctly and they could not install it. This is about 9:30am. I immediately jumped online to try and salvage the day. Made a couple calls and no one wanted to come out, came across Maloney and boom! They were there within 2hrs, gave us our options and we chose the one that worked best for us. They reworked the existing gas line and tied it into the dryer and even reconnected the gas line for our water heater that was not done correctly either. All within 4hrs of the time I had originally called them. Seemed decently priced but in all honestly, for the turnaround time, it was welllll worth it. I am so disappointed and I'm at my wit's end. I have a rat problem in a bathroom and the pest control company that come out last Friday said they believe there is a cracked pipe in my plumbing after performing a smoke test. I called Maloney Plumbing last Friday and spoke to a gentleman who had gone through the same thing, and he told me to contact the office on Monday to get scheduled. Today I call and explain myself again and they tell me that it is going to be $950 just to redo the smoke test or they can charge me $59 to just come out and look. What? I am bleeding money trying to fix this ongoing issue and $950 just to do a smoke test which does not include the actual fixing of any plumbing issue seems like an exorbitant amount to me. I had such high hopes after talking to the guy on Friday and now I'm back to square one. :( read more

Maloney plumbers have been to our home twice in the last 2 years, but this is my first Yelp post regarding those services. Both of our plumbing problems were water leaks and neither were urgent but they required prompt attention. I won't detail the plumbing problems we had, but rather I want to describe the service we received. We placed a call and received courteous attention from a very friendly associate. I felt like they wanted to serve us as soon as possible and that put me at ease. In each case we had a plumber at our home within 15 hours. They sent us a text in advance regarding their arrival. In one of the visits we could not be home and we received a detailed description of the issue, including pictures of the problem discovered. They told us the cost, which was very reasonable in both instances, and they completed the repair that day, within hours. For the repair where I was home, I was impressed with the professionalism and care the plumber demonstrated in his craft and his interactions with me. I watched him complete the repair. He answered all my questions and had a great personality. My parents owned a business in a small town when I was a kid and my dad was all about taking care of his customers. Absolutely incredible experience with Maloney. After working for over 6 weeks with another plumbing company who made little to no progress and who had quoted us thousands upon thousands of dollars, Maloney came out within an hour of calling them for a consultation. They were able to snake the drain and run a camera to tell us that our pipe had NOT collapsed as the other plumbing company had told us, and fixed the issue within a ridiculously quick time frame. They not only communicated every step of the way, they were highly detailed, professional, clean, friendly and efficient. It may seem dramatic, but I cried when they shared that they were able to fix the problem without having to dig into our slab and tear through our flooring as the other company shared they would have to do. I will recommend Maloney to anyone who has plumbing needs. He was determined to find out where my plumbing problem was. His helper, Mike did a lot of the muscle work and I didn't hear him complain one bit. He is a nice young man that is willing to learn. Sent two "technicians" on an order to install a new dishwasher. Was billed for two hours on this job at $150.00 for the real plumber and $85.00 per hour for the "journeyman". Failed to disclose the billing until after they were here for 30 minutes looking at the job. The explanation was that they did not believe it was right to bill us the full hourly rate for someone who is learning the trade. Big rip-off they should have disclosed up front , on the phone, that we would be billed for the time for two techs including paying out of our pockets for WJ Maloney Plumbing to train someone. 2/16/2012-WJ Maloney Plumbing apologized and acknowledged that we should not have been charged for the "journeyman" plumber's time. They promptly adjusted the invoice and refunded the $170.00 over-charge. The quality of the work performed was excellent. read more
