The shoe options are seriously unmatched here, and they're organized by size so you know where to look. The overall set up indoors is gorgeous and pleasing to the vintage fan. The selection is amazing. The prices are insane. To start with the good- it's clear that the store's collection is meticulously curated, especially the vintage dresses and boots. That's about it. My concerns are that the tags of the dresses have been removed, so you don't know what you're paying for. If it's vintage designer, there's no way to authenticate it. Additionally, the prices are completely unreasonable. Dresses with loose stitches for $450, and boots with worn-down soles for $300. read more

I have browsed Malin Landaeus' inventory for years. Having just popped in today, I have a few thoughts. While the collection is beautiful, and mostly in good condition, the pricing of the clothing and footwear is outrageous. As someone who has worked in vintage in Manhattan and Brooklyn for years, there is no justification for Malin's pricing. The selection of footwear, particularly the Free Lance boots, is exquisite. That does not pardon the extravagant pricing, and if one were to research the label, one could discover shoes belonging to that line on the second hand market vastly below that price point. The first time I came in, Malin actually made a point to avoid sharing the name of the brand as is to avoid giving me the opportunity to do my own research, which is a bit odd considering most pairs are investment purchases worthy of such considerations. I have noticed in my own personal experience that the treatment of customers who are thin, versus the treatment of costumers with other body types, is distinct. There is a culture within the store that seems to uplift and encourage a customer base that can model and fit the clothing - which lacks size diversity - and other customers are given less attention or, at worst, are given unsolicited opinions on their body by Malin, which is wholly inappropriate. Their sales tactic seems to be advertising the exclusivity of their items, and even boasting the celebrity status of their clientele to bolster their credibility. This assumes a low level of thoughtfulness among their customer base. Many vintage patrons are educated about the relative value of items, how to date vintage, and how "rare" something truly is. At times, I feel the shop exaggerates this to make a sale, and while I respect the hustle, it makes the shopping experience uncomfortable. Shockingly, a few of their sterling silver pieces are well priced, and competitive with other vintage retailers in the area who carry sterling silver. A few of the sales associates I've met over the years are lovely, kind, and not pushy about making the sale. Unfortunately, Malin and a few other associates share an attitude of condescension. For all of these reasons, I tend to avoid Malin Landaeus, as there are so many other places in Brooklyn to buy affordable, quality vintage at a much lower price point, without the off-putting sales experience. read more

Stopped in here with a friend yesterday and will never return -- even to browse. Anyone who knows anything about vintage will be able to tell you how ludicrous the prices are, but what really got me was the attitude of the workers. The two girls were so unfriendly from the second we walked in, and followed us around talking loudly about how they caught someone stealing earlier. Overpriced vintage stores around Williamsburg are a dime a dozen, so if you're gonna spend $250 on something you could get on Ebay for $40 (as the owner probably did) at least pick a store with friendly sales associates. read more

Stopped by the store to pull pieces for an editorial and was aggressively approached by Malin when she noticed I was taking photos of a few items I was interested in. Not that she had any amount of designer clothing, accessories or taste for that matter but made it very east to walk right back out the door! Absolute bitch! read more

AHAHAHAH! HA! HAHAH! BAHAHA...Those were my thoughts when I saw the price tags on these admittedly well curated, but exponentially overpriced boots. In fact, I used to own a pair of faux-croc patent black Charles David ankle boots (from the 80s/90s) that I bought at a thrift shop in the middle of nowhere for $4...they were selling the EXACT same pair here for $200+ (I ended up selling them on ebay a few months back for $40, so for all I know she could have been the one that bought them). I also own a pair of Joan Helpurn chelsea boots (mint condition, thrifted for $6) almost identical to the ones she was selling for $300 (for the same style, same brand!). That is how high the mark up is, and that is how ignorant rich women are for being completely unaware of the value of vintage. With all of that said, I've got to give this place 2 stars because I would have worn at least 75% of what was in that store (the clothes were just as well curated). In terms of merchandise, it was actually one of my favorite stores during my visit to Brooklyn/Manhattan. The sales associate (not the owner) was the perfect balance of friendly & distant. If only the boots were $100-$150 I would have bought at least 2 pairs (with the acknowledgement that there must be a markup of some kind), but $250-$350 is outrageous. And keep in mind, these aren't one-of-a-kind or super unique pieces, they're just the best of what's out there all in one store (with gigantic markups). P.S. And before you defend the prices by pointing out the lengths the owner goes to accumulate a collection like this, take it from someone who accumulates vintage just like this (and older!): it's not an arduous or expensive task if you know what you're doing. read more

I'm a huge fan of this store, as you can tell by my 5 star review.. which is why I'm disappointed to see all the negative comments. I've been a customer here for 5 years, and in that time have bought some of the most incredibly special one of a kind pieces. The owner, Malin, makes shopping so much fun. I feel like a kid in a candy store ooh-ing and ahh-ing over all of the unique items while we chat like old friends. I love all things vintage and antique and I love hearing about where my clothing/furniture is sourced from, so I adore that Malin sources everything herself, mostly, from Sweden. She can tell me exactly where the shoes I'm buying come from. It's so carefully and thoughtfully curated, it's crazy. Additionally, there have been many times when I've eyed a pair of shoes and was debating whether or not to buy them. By the time I go back for them they have often been snatched up.. by buyers from companies like Free People or Alexa Chung no less. That's the thing about Malin's store, her style and thus her store, which is all her style, is the inspiration for the designers of Free People or other awesome stores. So you're getting high quality, expertly crafted, original pieces that other super hip companies want to copy and sell for even more. I also adore the sense of community in the store. Malin and her daughter own the store together and bake gluten free vegan goods and make tea for their customers to enjoy. After Hurricane Sandy, they organized the neighborhood to help out in the Rockaways. And I have to mention that all the women who work there are like Scandinavian Goddesses who make you, for a time, feel like a Scandinavian Hipster Goddess too! Prices for shoes are exponentially high. You can find Joan & David, Kelian, for 50 -80 $ on etsy, ebay and thriftstores around NYC. Even cheaper in the countryside and West Coast. At auction in France you can get them very cheap as well. With the 90s currently trending you may have to wait a a few weeks until you score a good pair on etsy but if you know what you are doing - it s worth it. Malin' s prices are just insulting -350 for a pair of used shoes, is even for me as someone who deals with vintage items myself, a joke and makes me wonder how she thinks of her clients .She must think, all those tourists in Williamsburg are very dumb. Remember those shoes are worn, used and old. She makes an effort to make them look good and well kept, but I know from my own collection, that old shoes break easily. The sole comes off, the leather breaks once you wear them again. That even happened with my Kelian boots, my Maud Frizons, my Robert Clergerie's and even my vintage Jean Paul Gaultier. I dont think you can return shoes to Malin. Think about it - you buy boots for 350 $ and you cant return them ? Her clothing collection is equally bad. Polyester dresses for 130 $ + that are easy to find on etsy for 20 - 40 $. read more

Her selection is so unique and careful, that she could recognize in the airport, the pair of shoes I wore, which came from her store, showing all affection and attention she dedicates to her products. Just bought the cutest dress from this store! It was $80, which I dont think is a crazy price. Some other clothes were pricier ($300-400) but if you really look, you can find some equally beautiful pieces for a much more affordable price. Also, the woman working in the store was absolutely lovely (didn't catch her name, but she's the one with the cute pixie haircut) and she made it all a very positive shopping experience! Would definitely return (as a matter of fact my friend who was with me decided to go back tomorrow to buy some bracelets from there). What a beautifully curated shop. Most of the things are pricey, but gorgeous and in good condition. I tried on a few pairs of boots and none ended up working out, though they do have an extensive collection. Another thing to note is that they have many shoes in sizes 9 and up! Most pairs ended up being too big for me, but it was nice to see vintage shoes that weren't just in sizes 4-5. I ended up getting an Erica Weiner necklace for around $45; not a bad price for a beautiful, locally handmade piece. I do wish the clothing was a bit more reasonably priced. I didn't meet the owner but everyone at the shop was helpful and friendly, and they offered free cakes and cookies-- even if they didn't intend to buy and were just looking around. This shop is a total gem that stands out even in a neighborhood saturated with vintage clothing shops for the quality, selection & impeccable service they offer. To those who say the prices are outrageous--true, some of their items are steeply priced, but not only is everything in great condition & beautifully curated, the staff is incredibly helpful & more than willing to help you find the perfect item in your budget. For example... After recently moving to the neighborhood, I stumbled into Malin's shop for the first time when I was last-minute shopping for a black tie event (the event was 18 hours away & I was still sans dress). I was on a reasonably tight budget (~$175 or less) for such a formal event, so Malin and her staff helped me select a number of dresses in the $50-$175 range that were beautiful, unique & event-appropriate. Upon settling on a dress that was slightly large on my frame, & faced with insufficient time to get it tailored before the event, Malin offered to do the tricky alterations (to the dress' suede bodice--no local tailor would do suede alterations with such short turnaround time) on the spot while her lovely staff served me tea and homemade baked goods. All told, I found a great dress that came in under budget (@ $150) & without the added cost of tailoring elsewhere. The shop has a welcoming, helpful vibe & great sense of community. Plain and simple this store is as much about the experience as the merchandise. Such beautifully curated vintage stores may cost more but they do so because every item is hand picked, in great condition and speaks to a specific niche. At Malin Landeaus Vintage you will not comb through endless racks of moth eaten cashmere for clothing and shoes that will still need dry cleaning/ new soles. This is where one goes to find signature pieces! Malin, Nova and their wonderful staff make the shopping experience that of a store that sells haute couture clothing. Who wouldn't want to have 3 people hand picking suggested items? As a person who never knows what to wear, their help is invaluable. They will even look at clothes that you own and help you figure out the best ways to wear them. Then I wanted to vomit. You can buy Joan&David shoes (which is most of the shoes they have in this store) on Etsy for $20-$60. In this store, they are $190 and up. RIDICULOUS. Etienne Aigner ankle boots that I regularly see on Esty and at the flea market for $30-60? Like $200. I left this store wanting to round-house the owner in the side of the face. Really?
