Full transparency: I've never actually had the food here because every time we come, we make a beeline for the Captain Crunch milkshake. It's genuinely that good. We've made special trips out here just for it, and now that they offer both dairy and non-dairy options, even more people can experience it. This last time we tried the Strauss ice cream version and it was absolutely delectable. Rich and creamy without being overly sweet, which honestly makes it even more craveable. Malibu's came to Oakland United Brewery for the Ales for ALS event - the brought their food truck and I tried their La Lulu chicken sandwich which was incredible!! The texture and tasted of the fried chicken tasted incredible and hard to believe it was vegan. The sandwich was really filling and their fries were great. I wished there were tots but I'll have to check out their brick and mortar soon. The service was great, they were so nice and very quick with our orders. While Malibu's burgers may not be the best burger I've had, it's pretty up there for me and it's definitely the best plant based burger I've had. I got the Malibu burger and the patty was nice and crispy. The construction of the burger overall was done really well; there was a great balance of ingredients, all of them great quality. I finally got to visit Malibu at their 'new' (I know, it's not that new anymore) location and the burgers are tasty as ever. I really don't crave burgers much these days, but Malibu is the exception. The La Lulu is my favourite--the 'chicken' tastes great and the trimmings make it even more delicious. Plus, the tots and salad make for excellent sides. This space is bigger than Piedmont's, with ample seating inside (and even some parklet spots out front.) Ordering is easy, with both options at a kiosk and with a person at the counter. Delicious vegan burgers located close to lake Merritt! I love that this place offers a children's menu, and the burger comes with apple juice and a shake. They offer a few different toppings and are so yummy. My kids tried the cookies and cream and classic chocolate syrup, my kids enjoyed it after their food, so I didn't get a good pic of them but I tasted both. I liked that it wasn't too thick but still thick enough to still be a shake. The shakes are on the small side but I think it's healthier that way. I can enjoy it and not over eat/drink. My daughter and I have followed Malibu's Burgers on Instagram ever since they closed their doors on their previous Oakland site. We have waited patiently for their return to Oakland. Last weekend, after her dance practice, we finally had our favorite burgers. I ordered a Tasha Burger with Hella Hella Fries while my daughter opted for a La Lulu chicken burger with Stadium Fries. We waited along with another pair of customers in the open modern seating area. We were thrilled when our compostable tray made its way to our table after a short wait. Heavenly! Nothing beats Malibu's for vegan goodness. I made a point of telling our hostess/owner how grateful we are that they are back in the Town. We will absolutely be coming through. Myself and my little were beyond excited to see that MB was back in the Oakland area. Traveling from the peninsula (E.Palo Alto) to the E.Bay was always a special treat for us both and this place is always at the top of our list. Everything on this menu is incredible(my little and I have tried about 90%) outstanding hospitality from Darren and his incredible staff and the new spot is very clean, all blacked out which is pretty dope and lots of available parking near by. I wasn't fortunate enough to visit their location in Marin but very glad it's back in its original city. Anytime I have to cross the Dumbarton just know that MB and is most definitely on my way and in my sights. You can't go wrong and you WONT be disappointed. While they made a new order to attempt to fix the mistake, the resolution felt a bit rushed and sloppy. The waitress Liz wasn't unfriendly, but her demeanor didn't come across as warm or welcoming--there just wasn't much of an inviting energy. Maybe it was me, but I didn't feel like a valued customer. The food is worth 5/5 stars!! So good!! -1 star for service, which was a challenge for them in their last space. We walked in during a weekend dinner/rush time. I noticed there were a lot of people waiting but no food being served. No one greeted us. There was a person restocking the drinks section, which seemed unnecessary during a rush time. We didn't know who to talk to about our pick up order, and no one seemed interested in helping us. So we just stood their awkwardly with everyone else clearly doing the same. Then the person restocking drinks finished, walked past all of us, and disappeared in the back. Milkshake maker still has not acknowledged anyone...Finally the person making milkshakes paused...we thought...to grab his Doordash order from the front door. Still no acknowledgement, and people are starting to get frustrated. The person finally finishes and starts to distribute our orders...no apology or acknowledgment of all of us waiting. The folks waiting for food in the restaurant (not pick up) never were served while we were there. We received a text alert that our food was ready, but there was no one to ask about it. Then two folks waiting in line to order left. I worry that poor service will be Malibu's downfall again. These are the best vegan burgers you will find! However, they regularly leave items off the order. I ordered two orders of a burger with fries and only got one very small order of fries. This is not the first time this has happened to me, and is especially is true for delivered items. Also, there is no direct phone number listed for them on Yelp or on the receipt, and when I called the number on their website, a recording said they were closed, even though it was before closing time. I say yes to potatoes. every time. I LOVE POTATOES. hard potato? soft potato? mashed potato? i'm in. invited to the cookout and no potato? i'm OUT. if man ever made potato protein, I would be the first in line so when I asked for a 2 fry order and got home to see only 1 fry order... you know I was devastated. upset, crying even. Tried to hide it from my cat but she knew.. she knew. my only hope is that I lock myself in my own kitchen and make an ode to the lost order of potato from malibus burgers at 7:02pm on a cold sunday night in the town. that or a refund. but a refund wouldn't justify. I want to walk in there and have them know I am potato king, and be greeted one time with my missing potato order.
