After living in the actual city of Madrid for a few weeks, we passed this establishment multiple times and had always seen it packed with people. So, we thought it's got to be good. Therefore, we went. We sat outside as is customary to do in Spain because it's always beautiful and sunny here, so why not. Like most Spanish restaurants, we began with a small snack of potato chips and drinks...the Spanish love their potato chips appetizers. My drink was good. They called it "smoky," which was a vermouth with a little bite of spice at the end. The food was something else, and I mean that in a bad way. My wife's fish and a chips were extremely skimpy and the fish still had the skin on them. My sons French fry dish was drenched in oil, very lubricated. However, my tortilla was the perfect size with great bread. Nevertheless, all this cost us €85, which is way too expensive for not just the quality of the food but also for the area. The service was very lax. It took forever to get service, both when we arrived and when we wanted to the check. This kind of chill service is common in Spain but here it was too extensive, even for Spain. Overall, the food was expensive for how mediocre it tasted and for how long we waited. We will probably not go back, not even for a date night, especially when there are so many other, better options from which to choose. read more

While visiting Madrid and staying at a local hotel we stumbled across Makkila. What a welcome surprise, their grilled steak plate and their ham hock plate were very tasty as was their artichoke with bacon bits. Their prices were reasonable, portions were fair and their service, after experiencing the normal rude behavior at other establishments was in comparison, passable. read more

The ambiance and decor here was amazing, food was great, but the service could have been a little better. Our group was on a bit of time crunch so let our hostess know ahead of time, but dishes still came out pretty slow and we had to ask for our check like three times before we were finally able to pay. We ordered some drinks and everyone grabbed some Tintos, which was nice and refreshing. My boyfriend and I ordered the Cachopo (fried beef steak fillet with cecina and cheese) and Glazed Iberian Pork Shank with Fries. Both dishes were delicious and super filling. The portions here are fairly big and most of us could have shared. We also ordered some croquettes as appetizers and those were super gooey on the inside but nicely crispy on the outside. Overall, I would come back given that the food was amazing and the service was not terrible, just slow. read more

Had my last meal in Madrid here! Only come if you have time on your hands 'cause the service was extremely slow and at times negligent. The space was pretty big but there were only three people working on the floor, which was packed with people, and one bartender. The bartender actually came out from behind the bar and served us after we failed to flag down someone to take our order. We were given a Spanish menu so we assumed they didn't have an English menu. After a while of frustratingly google translating the menu, we asked if they had an English menu and they did!! So definitely ask for the English menu if you're not fluent in Spanish. A small bottle of water was 2,20 euros. Jamon Iberico con tomate(3,50 euros) - not what we expected! It was a small toast with diced ham and tomato on top. But not bad. Gazpacho (3,90 euros) - I just wanted to try the gazpacho once before I left since it's a recommended dish to try in Spain. But it was too sour for my taste. Taco de conhinita Pibil (4,40 euros) & taco de carne asada (4,40 euros) - the tacos were tiny but delicious! I usually only like soft shell tacos but I quite enjoyed the hard shells. One of the tacos tasted better than the other but I don' remember which one. Ensalada de la casa (13,00 euros) - The salad was fricken huge. Raviolis de sears (13,00 euros) - I originally ordered the carbonara pasta (if I remember correctly) but after ten minutes, our server came back and said they didn't have that anymore. So I switched to the truffle ravioli. I'm not a big fan of the truffle taste but the truffle flavor was actually not that apparent in this dish. The overall taste was OK but wouldn't get again if I had a chance to come back. Bao carrillera (4,80 euros) - my boyfriend was contemplating on this for the longest time and he finally ordered this towards the end of our meal. It came pretty quickly even though it was a late add on. Unfortunately, we did not like it at all. There was way too much white sauce (might've been mayo). TLDR; the slowest service I've ever received. Hard to get the workers' attention. Place is packed and not enough people working. The only food I really liked here were the tacos, everything else was mediocre or passable. read more

The service was good and atmosphere lively, but we were underwhelmed with the food. The croquettes were hot but were said to have jamón and we couldn't really taste it at all...might be that we're just not fans of Spanish croquettes. We got a few other dishes and weren't very impressed...the salad with burrata was good but definitely heavy on the burrata and light on the greens. We saw this throughout Spain re: salads, coming with our expectations of US salads. I'd say this is a better bar than a restaurant. read more

My family and I have been traveling for 6 weeks now throughout Europe and came to this restaurant while visiting Salamanca. For 11.90 euros we had an 3 course meal! It started off with a first plate, we had the pasta cabanara and the Salmon plates. Then we all ordered the steak lunch which included salad and French fries. Then they included a desert choice of either ice cream, fruit, or Expresso. Everything was absolutely delicious and was one of the best meals we have had and all for a great price!
