    Peach ginger scone
    Stephanie C.

Every time the N train goes express to Astoria Blvd, I internally cheer because it means I get to try another fun baked good at Make Believe. To date, I've tried probably a dozen different pastries and savory snacks, from sausage rolls to cookies and have yet to not be impressed. While I didn't write a review months ago when it was on the menu, the chocolate babka bun was excellent. I was also pleasantly surprised by the moistness of the apple strawberry crumb cake, which at other spots I've found unpalatably dry, and their excellent cowboy muffin, which was like a dense but less sweet carrot cake with chia seeds and apples. Most recently, and what drove me to finally write this review, I tried their peach ginger scone--tender and not too sweet with candied ginger pieces for a fun bite, the perfect companion to any of their many beverages. I'm definitely coming back for another scone soon (honestly, probably tomorrow).

What a cute little bakeshop with friendly staff. It was warm enough yesterday that they had the front all open. There's a variety of seating options, but I ordered for takeout. Got a cafe au lait with soy milk. I appreciated that the barista showed me how much coffee was in the cup and asked if I wanted to adjust the amount before the milk was added. There are sweet and savory options, but I went with the chocolate babka. It had some crunchy edges on the top and rich chocolate swirls throughout. Absolutely delicious. I will return to try out some other options.

I'm not sure what this was called but it was absolutely cheesy goodness.

I come in to Make Believe in the mornings for my dirty chai. They make it the best in the neighborhood. I cannot come in for months and they'd still know my order. Love that! So attentive and detail oriented as i have a bit of an odd order. Bonus during warmer months they have legit large sized iced plastic cups. I have only gotten food once but I will tell you to take a gander at their display. You'll find this delicious, cheesy eggy goodness. Get it. Indulge. Enjoy! Thank me later! The staff are so genuinely friendly. If I were in the office full time, I'd be there every day and if they were closer to my home, I wouldn't mind working there remotely either. The Cafe is bright and airy with some comfy seating and an open kitchen to see what yumminess is being prepared for the day. On a street with multiple cafe's, don't sleep on Make Believe. Get a dirty chai! Get whatever is in the display. Show your support!

Lovely shop with ample seating and kind baristas! Tons of space to sit in the front, and I'd imagine they have chairs to put out in the summer. The Vanilla Oatmilk Latte was delicious! And it came in a ceramic cup!

Wanted to write this review based on the wheelchair accessibility and laptop areas…read more There are coffee shops in the neighborhood with laptop rules that say you have to sit at the high tables. Obviously as a wheelchair user, I cannot sit at the high tables, and when I have asked the staff for understanding, other places have denied me. Ines let me use my laptop at a wheelchair accessible table without any fuss. Mark was very gracious. When I asked, he said, "we will make an exception." I felt heard without advocating for common sense and I greatly appreciate the humility. Thank you!

The escargot was covered with pesto that tasted like the basil wasn't fresh. Also, I'm sure there was plenty of garlic because the restaurant smelled like it, but I would have liked more garlic in this dish. The meatballs were mostly bread (there may have been some meat). After we complained, the item was removed from our bill by our friendly, polite, and conscientious server. Note: This is a French restaurant, but they didn't have any butter for the bread.

They have a table to pickup preorders so you don't have to wait in the main line. I ordered a dozen for $39. You can select your assortment. Here's my review in order from the best to the least desirable, according to our group. Vanilla custard- the filling was thick and speckled with vanilla beans. It wasn't too sweet. This was the best according to our group. Strawberry filled- this is most traditional and Breads Bakery does a nice job. The jam is homemade. Pistachio- this doughnut was filled with smooth pistachio cream and was topped with a few pieces of pistachio. Not traditional, but they did a good job. Chocolate- the filling tasted like a semisweet or bittersweet cream/custard. Like the others, it was smooth. The vanilla was more popular among our group and I personally didn't love this doughnut. Mango- this was the one that those in my group felt missed the mark. It wasn't cloyingly sweet, so that was good, but the filling didn't do anything for us either. If you're looking for a mango dessert the one at Lysée is a real winner.

The Banana muffin was really tasty too. I split it with a girl I met in the store and she said it paired really well with their iced coffee so that's a plus. The pasta was good. Reasonable amount of pasta but we would have liked some more chunks of lobster for the price. I thought the sauce was only ok but my girlfriend liked it. The guazzetto di Pesci was only fair. The sauce was lacking flavor. Also a very small bowl of broth with maybe 3 small shrimp and muscles, a few small chunks of fish. and two sad, tiny pieces of bread on the side. Since we were still quite hungry after the meal, we ordered the lotus chocolate caramel dessert. This was the only dish we really liked. kinda hard to mess up gelato though. It came with a hard outer candy shell and a very small cookie center that was sweet and delicious. Overall, an average meal at best that we both felt was lacking in taste and size. Won't return.
