Part of the new addition

What sets MAK apart from other construction folks is that they listen. No idea is too different. My house was built in 1928 and I wanted the addition to look and feel like it was the same age as the rest of the house. Ken Kirsch assigned Tyler as my project manager. He worked around the clock to find wood, latches and windows that matched my house. No detail was spared. He even left some of the original markings of the wood floor at my request. The end result for both my laundry room and kitchen was beyond stellar. They show up on time, and they know how to work. I would give 10 stars if the rating system allowed it

Rat hole chewed in their wood paneling adjacent to the new attic. MAK still refused to help me.

During this entire process Chris (and his workers) were exemplary. He knows Davis regulations and building codes like the back of his hand, clearly presents his prices, and helped us navigate many tricky issues. For example, upon doing our electrical work it was discovered that almost none of our outlets were grounded, presenting a major fire-hazard. Chris worked with us to replace these at a minimal charge. He also took our many questions in stride and was on-site himself almost every day. We are so happy we went with Chris. I would strongly recommend him whether you are planning a large job like ours or a simple remodel (i.e. only a kitchen or only a bathroom, etc.).

From day one, we were impressed with Eric who came to look at our project and give us an estimate. He was very professional, prompt, friendly, organized, knowledgeable about products, scope of work, and gave us a very impressive timeline. Eric offered his expertise about layout, and products which was very helpful. When we received our contract, it was just as he said it would be, and the scope of work included everything we requested. After the contract was signed, the owner of Vostok, Alex, arrived with the demolition crew. The crew was very careful to cover the adjacent bedroom furniture and flooring. The bathroom work area was closed off with plastic, and the crew was very tidy while they worked. The old bathroom was demolished ASAP. Alex is very knowledgeable and skilled. He has a very deep bench of very skilled craftsmen who are amazing. The quality of everything was top notch. In summary, we would highly recommend Vostok for your bathroom renovation.

Their price was fair and there was absolutely no nickel and diming the price as the work progressed. We had no surprises whatsoever! They were all so respectful working in our home. We would absolutely hire them again and whole heartedly recommend them!

When the guys came to work each day it was clear they loved working together. They laughed with one anotherand were a joy to have in our home. We needed some major renovation work involving the conversion of a outdoor sun room into enclosed…read moreliving space, and we knew it would be a complicated project so we hired a local building designer well-versed in Davis codes. With the plans and city approval in hand we started approaching the big-name local construction firms and were immediately met with resistance, as all insisted we shelve our design plans ($$!!!!) and use their own designers. They wanted to control all aspects of the construction, including the design, and although I respect that, I was not about to throw away $6,000 and an approved city permit. I contacted Mike Pesola, the owner of Bedrock Construction after doing some background checks, and he called back within a day. All I can say is I found Mike Pesola a true professional who was interested in how we wanted the project done, and was a project leader who made it happen. He took the plans and studied them and came to me within a week with an estimate that was within $5,000 of my own estimate of what the job should cost. We did it in two phases, starting in the fall, and then restarted again in April. Any costs outside of the contractual plan was clearly allocated, usually because we as owners decided to upgrade certain fixtures, but in all cases there were no surprises and the project moved forward on schedule and on budget. As a former contract administrator, I can tell you this requires both parties to pay attention to the details and keep both sides informed, which is exactly what happened. His crews were polite, cleaned up after the days work, and arrived when they said they were coming. When there were issues, and in construction projects there always are, Mike was there and things were ironed out seamlessly. Because of Covid 19 concerns, we delayed the planned 2nd phase by almost a month, and Mike worked with us in rescheduling his crews. Mike's father was a building contractor in NYC, and it was obvious Mike learned the business the right way. We are extremely pleased with the results and recommend Bedrock without any hesitation. It is a family business and run the way I would run my own business. Bottom line, project was delivered on time, on budget, with excellent results with no issues with the city or our neighbors! Thumbs up, Mike! Fine work!

Jonathan was the main face of the company with whom I worked. He coordinated the work, worked with me on pricing, and was always easy to contact, responsive and polite. The work crew was amazing, going above and beyond to help me move some pieces of heavy furniture that would've been impossible for me. They worked hard with skill and care and were very fast. I would definitely hire them again for any future major projects.

I knew this wasn't good, as fungus means moisture and dead stuff (old wood). Thankfully this isn't a "M word" story (mold). But anyone would be concerned by a weird intrusion like this so I had Good Life come out and check it out. I had been dealing with real estate recently, and I was somewhat familiar with Good Life for home inspections so I gave them a shot at this repair. Project Manager Eugene arrived with one of the construction crew and they explained what they could do to assess the problem. We scheduled them to come out and pull off some drywall and do a moisture test. The next day they were able to confirm that water was getting into the wall from a part of the outside stucco and had caused extensive dry rot down to the studs. Obviously, this is where it sounds expensive. Eugene explained in detail what needed to be done to repair the damage and to prevent a future leak. He emailed me a detailed repair with a reasonable estimate, including an up front discussion on change orders that may need to be made. I approved the estimate online and felt confident that the guys knew what they were doing. Over the next week or so the crew from Good Life worked efficiently and professionally to remove the old stucco, wood and insulation and treat the fungus affected area which about 10 feet high by 8 feet wide on the exterior. Eugene called or updated me on the daily progress in-person and was very professional. The crew was Ukrainian and spoke some English along the way but Eugene and a couple others explained everything clearly. After a couple of detailed change orders the crew put the front of the house back together with fresh wood, insulation, stucco and a brick veneer that looked especially challenging. I was very impressed with the crew's versatility in how those guys were able make the house look the same down to the paint and the landscaping that was in front. Good Life did great work and made my house look good as new. They worked quickly and effectively and left a very clean result inside and outside. The cost was a good value for the amount of work I saw completed and the attention to detail. I would definitely call Good Life again for repairs, but hopefully we're done with anything at this level. Great job guys.

The initial consult was professionally conducted, and we were happy to sign right then and there to get things moving. Everything, start to finish, went like clockwork. Super disappointed to leave this review but this company did exactly what I told them face to face…read moreat the home show - I didn't like about other companies I've recently experienced- they come out, take measurements, sell you on what they offer and then ghost you! Would not recommend Rose Remodeling - we met with this company at the Home show and set up an appointment- the sales rep (Eric) came out on the 4th in the evening, took measurements, we went over what we wanted and he said he would get us an estimate - haven't heard a peep - don't waste your time as they will waste yours and not communicate - he also kept saying "this is going to be expensive" without even knowing our budget. My husband was concerned that the sales guy didnt act like he knew what he was doing when talking through what we wanted, measuring - then we sat our our table for 15 minutes while he scrolled home depot site showing us shower heads -- I told him he could just send us something as I was losing patience -- so he said he would send us an estimate and left - that was 10 days ago - not an email saying working on it, not a can't do it -- nothing. I appreciate small businesses and want to support them but not to my time and expense. I also understand (from my past experince being a home show participant) that there may be an influx of sales calls, etc..however that is not an excuse for zero communcations after an inperson sales meeting. Poor leadership, sales and attention to detail which unfortunately for the team doing the work could cause more problems. Recommend to owners to be honest - if your sales team doesn't want to do the work or can't - just say so - don't say you're going to do something and never deliver!!! Also, why waste your money at the home show if this is how your sales team operates? If they don't communicate before the project, imagine the lack of communication during the project!!! RED FLAGS! I'm leaving two stars as the sales rep did provide a good picture of work Rose has done in the past that now I can use to show other companies what I want.
