Maize Valley has very good Ohio red and White wines. Redneck red is probably my favorite, but I have not tasted a wine here where I was disappointed. The actual restaurant is also very good. I don't know if they have an actual chef but a lot of their menu is chef quality so kudos to Maize Valley if they're not actually using a chef. The ambiance is very chill and the place is quite large with a large variety of snacks and a cafe. I do not recommend the coffee. That is an area they could definitely improve. My friend and I spent the day at the Lavender Festival at Maize Valley Winery this past Saturday. After browsing the many vendor booths throughout the festival, we stopped in the winery for lunch. There was a line when we arrived, but we were pleasantly surprised to be seated within about 5-10 minutes. Instead of a traditional server, each table had a QR code that allowed us to order both food and drinks directly from our phones. We had no interaction with any server, we had one member who delivered our food and wine flights to our rebel and left. The system worked well and everything arrived quickly and efficiently. We both ordered the Lavender Salad with added chicken. The salad featured mixed greens topped with feta, cucumber, red onion, lavender-pickled blueberries, candied pecans, and a lavender blueberry dressing. It was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. We both agreed it was excellent. We also each ordered a wine flight, which included four 2-ounce samples. I sampled the Sinfully Red, Mad Cow, Hanky Panky, and Redneck Red. I enjoyed all four wines. Most were on the sweeter side, while the Sinfully Red was a nice dry option that provided a good contrast. The Lavender Festival itself was wonderful, with plenty of vendors to shop from and lots to see. We also tried the lavender lemonade, which was refreshing and perfect for a warm summer day. One thing that surprised me was the additional charge to access the lavender fields. It was $10 to walk through and take photos, or $20 to take photos and cut lavender to bring home. Personally, I felt the $10 photo fee was a bit steep and not quite worth it just to snap a few pictures, but I understand it's a business and an additional way for them to generate revenue. Giving this review a 3-star instead of a 5-star because I felt the food and wine flight was a bit pricey and I did not like that they charge you to walk through the lavender field. I ended up paying almost $45 for a salad and flight as there was a large tip automatically added onto my order. I wasn't given the option to add a customized tip. I didn't even receive a text receipt to my my phone showing what I would be charged and the addition of the tip, so I thought that was a little bit sneaky and unexpected. We had the food delivered to our table. No other interaction took place. Overall, despite those two things mentioned, Maize Valley did a great job handling a very busy event. Between the beautiful festival atmosphere, tasty food, enjoyable wines, and efficient service, it was a fun day. read more

I attended a yoga event in their lavender field, and really enjoyed it. The lavender field is seasonal, of course, but it's really big, and they have several public pick your own events through the season. I also enjoyed a beverage at their brand new coffee bar. They opened the coffee bar on the day of the yoga event, where there were 150 participants, and the coffee staff were HOPPING. My lavender lemonade was very refreshing after a hot morning outside, and they are very efficient. I also really enjoyed some of the cinnamon almonds, the kind you usually get at the fair. We got the red raspberry and the apple pie. The red raspberry is good. Does have a slight dryness to it but really tastes like raspberries. We came in for a wine tasting. Very informative event. Knowledgeable on the history of the facility and especially the origin of the wines we tasted. We were able to pick six wines. So each couple made a selection and when it was our wine to taste you were the one that did the toast!! We had three reds and three whites. There was quite the selection to choose from so it wasn't easy. We each really liked our selection. All of our tastes were different. Very casual place. They had a seasonal menu as well as a standard. We enjoyed the wine with cheese and crackers then finished with a sandwich. There was a deli and a store area. We stopped by Maize Valley for lunch and to try out their beers. Well, when you walk in, it's a country shop type of feel with a bar. You can buy things in the store and also have a beer at the bar. Unfortunately we couldn't do that due to COVID but next time! We sat on the covered patio and it was beautiful! We enjoyed looking at the goats up on the hill and the farm. They have lavender fields but they weren't nearby the brewery/winery. We started out with a flight of beers and they were all delicious! This is a long overdue review, but this is by far one of the most beautiful breweries I've ever been too. Technically they're more of a winery but since I do not have a taste for fermented grapes, beer is much more up my alley. We came here on Labor Day weekend as I was staying with my boyfriend and we were looking for a nice road trip destination but something that wasn't too far from home. I noticed their Facebook page and started following it and I knew I had to get there for myself. It was packed when we arrived but luckily we saw a car pull out and we got a spot right up front. There was a bit of a line out the door, but it only took 15-20 mins for us to get seated. Not only did they have a charming front patio, but they have a lot of space in the back of the building. The patio back there overlooks their gorgeous land and they had the garage doors open with lots of open air seating inside too. I felt very comfortable here as the tables were so far distanced and everyone walking around was wearing masks. We had a beer flight and it was so nice! We got a good variety to try and my favorite ended up being a cider infused with lavender. You heard that right! They have their own lavender and sunflower fields on the property that you can pay a small admission fee to go and walk through. Pretty awesome! We wanted a small appetizer to share and we decided on the bruschetta. Our server misunderstood us and brought out the bruschetta pizza instead but that was not a "mistake" in our book as it was absolutely delightful! After eating, we walked around the land. There's a nice path leading up the hill to a fenced in area full of goats! They were super cute and kept coming up to the fence. I think you can purchase cups of food for them if you so wish. It was still more summer than fall when we were here, but I bet it's even more lovely in October. I had no idea they have been around for 20 years, this was something I just discovered this year. Wow. We came to pick some pumpkins out in the very front area and were very unkindly spoken to by staff about how pets are not allowed. There is by far a much nice way to address things with people. Also, we've brought our dog before and drank wine on the patio and never had a problem. We drove here excited to get some pumpkins. We did not plan to bring her around food or inside the building so it really rubs me the wrong way that they don't allow dogs all of a sudden. Also, perhaps a sign out front would be nice before we spend time parking in the far back and walking up front to shop. So fun, I've been here several times for trivia night and I highly recommend it! Seriously- find a friend or two to form a team and get your nerd on. The same person has led it every time I've gone and she is super fun, it's very organized, runs like clockwork and it's just a blast. The little shop in the front is so cute and sells all kinds of fun knick knacks and unique food items. The spice area is one of my faves, they have anything you can think of and things you've (I've) never heard of. As for the wine, the large group of girls I go with all love it. I find many to be too sweet, but I'll keep trying to find my fave. The food is pretty good, I like the Mediterranean quinoa salad when I'm feeling virtuous and the pretzels with beer cheese dip when I'm not. They have a great menu, something for everyone. I have enjoyed Maize Valley wine from purchases at the grocery store in the past, but have never been to their actual store until my friend decided she was turning 28 again (for the 4th time) and wanted to do a wine trail around her neighborhood. Cute little country store vibe going on with lots of wines, jams, sauces, breads, and quirky little knick knacks for purchase. They also have these cool Ohio shirts! (I bought one that said "wine" inside an outline of Ohio). There is a section where you can order deli items too. Plenty of tables and seating with this cozy little area with couches, a wood burning stove, and board games to play. Staff is younger but friendly and I liked their laid-back flannel attire. Hartville is a dry town, but Maize Valley is able to serve alcohol under some farm law or something because they make the wine and beer on site. There is a beer side and a wine side, both with plenty of options! My friend and I split a wine flight, $16 for 6 wines with about 2-2.5 ounce pours. This is probably my favorite winery in the area because they have some nice sweet wines. Ones that I like: Red Neck Red, Hanky Panky, Mad Cow, and Very Berry. Knocking off a star because their wine is more expensive to purchase at their home store than say at Giant Eagle. A bottle at Maize is $11.99 but at Giant Eagle the same bottle is always on sale for $7.99 so I would not recommend buying anything at Maize. Also I am not sure if it was due to the rain or not, but this place was full of flies and gnats, so much so that it negatively affected our experience there. read more

Maize Valley Farm Market and Winery is located in Hartville, Ohio and is open year round. It doesn't have to be fall for you to go and enjoy a good time, but it helps. While the Winery features some great outdoor play areas for kids, live entertainment, wine tastings and a great little deli year round, they really ramp things up in the harvest season. Their Family Fun days kick off at the end of September with a hot air balloon festival and keep going strong through Halloween as people spend the days playing and the nights getting their wits scared off in the haunted corn maze. The "family fun" area of Maize Valley is fenced off, so if you want anything more than animal petting and fresh donuts you'll need to pay an admission fee. At $7 for kids age 2-12 and $9 for anyone 13 and over, (kids under 2 are free) Maize Valley's Fall Family Fun isn't cheap. That said, you could easily kill four or five hours here. The first place we headed once we got through the gate was up to a covered pavilion. At one end was a swarm of kids gathered around hand pump powered rubber duckie racers. Four hand pumps were feeding into large buckets that then fed into about a 12 foot long section of piping just wide enough to hold a rubber duckie. Racers set the rubber ducking at the starting point and then pumped water fast enough to overflow the bucket and fill the pipes. The fastest or most productive pumper then propelled their rubber ducky down the track and back to win the game. Next to this was a giant pile of old tractor tiles with a little bit of plastic piping thrown in for good measure. The Maize Valley team had taken a dozen or more old tractor tires of various sizes and piled them up just right to make a great little jungle gym. The 20 foot tall hay pile mixed with several large pipes acting as tunnels was probably the single most exciting thing there for my kids. They spent at least half an hour, maybe longer climbing up, over, under and through. While we didn't have a chance to check out the maze with the little ones, it's clearly an experience. There's a large stairway leading to a platform in the middle of the maze so lost visitors can climb up and try to find their way out. There are also discovery stations and games throughout the maze as well as an interactive text message game designed to help visitors find their way through. There's also a haunted corn maze and forest that sets up after dark and runs an additional $12 per person. On our way back down to the parking lot we stopped by that little snack bar to pick up a dozen freshly made cinnamon sugar donuts. At $6 for a dozen, the price was perfect. We took them to the Winery with the kids and headed inside to get drinks, warm up and enjoy the sweet doughy goodness. And what sweet, doughy goodness it was. I consider myself a bit of a donut connoisseur, and these may have been the finest, freshest cinnamon sugar donuts I'd ever tasted. read more

My parent gave me a gift card to Maize Valley for Christmas LAST year and my wife and I finally found time to make it down. Word on the street is that you need to visit in the warm months in order to truly enjoy Maize Valley. Many wineries have great outdoor spaces, but let's be honest...the majority of the months in Ohio are not deck-worthy. The lack of a date-worthy interior moved Maize Valley from 5 stars to 4. The second star was lost when I looked at the menu. I have seen a trend of wineries popping up without an attention paid to the food. Maize Valley is not winning any points with the food. It is basic, unoriginal, and mediocre at best. There is nothing on the menu that I can't whip up at home in a few minutes. On the plus side, the beer and wine were good. The wine was not spectacular, but my wife and I each had a solid bottle of our respective red and white. We enjoyed the live music, but I had a hard time getting past the deli-like environment. The setting, a beautiful old (over 100 years) barn. Beautiful old wood and an amazing bar set up with tables and such. They have a little market there as well. They sell T-shirts, butters, jellies, and pickled things (like green beans). They also have a small deli. They have some amazing cookies (chocolate chip and peanut butter were our two choices but they have more). The have a variety of pie as well. They have a nice selection of wines. I walked out with their hanky panky Catawba and the Le Crescent. Amazing! The hubby tried some of the beer. Fantastic selection on tap, of their own. Subject: Adult Easter Egg Hunt. Positives: I'm trying to think of something that was positive but it's not working-kind of like this unorganized mess that we found ourselves in last week. First of all, I have been trying for a couple of Easter's to get tickets for this but for whatever reason, they have been sold out before it was ever publicized. I finally was able to purchase $50 worth of tickets (2 tickets) and here we are. On a Thursday evening in the pouring down rain (raining for 2 days prior as well) on March 29. The management put all 300 of us drunken suckers in the pavilion which probably is supposed to hold 250. Refreshments were all the booze you could buy, some cheese cubes and a few appetizers that were probably from a previous event, frozen then cooked again. After a few announcements by I'm assuming a female manager about rules, manners and how many eggs we were allowed to pick up, the garage doors were opened and all 300 people started pushing and shoving their way out. Sure! We felt safe! After squeezing our way outside we were led on a half mile walk to the back part of the property in the mud and still pouring rain being yelled at by the staff if we went into the egg filled fields before they said to start. My husband and I started to collect the 10 eggs a piece and walked back to the pavilion to open the eggs. After all this, we sat in our wet clothes with the other 300 drunken wet people and opened the 20 eggs. How exciting this was!! Let's see what we got for our $50!! We got cheap candy from a Valentine's Day function (all the candy was in red and had hearts on the packaging) and a coupon for a free glass of wine. Umm, okay, at least we won something. After checking the big board to see if we won bigger prizes which we did not, we left. The next day, we looked at our winning coupon and come to find out the coupon expired the night of the hunt!!!!!!! Seriously? Not only did we waste $50, but the coupons they were giving out were expired! We called management to see if maybe it was a typo and could be used at a later date and they said absolutely not. We did complain and the person we talked to basically told us there were numerous people who had a great time and that we were the only ones who complained!! From reading the other negative reviews I think we weren't the only ones. I cannot believe what a true ripoff this was. Even though we had a good time together, this was truly a huge disappointment and waste of money. Be warned!! There are many other Easter egg hunts that are cheaper and better organized than this!!
