She made a huge issue that we mistook the menu, that looked similar to selection form and circled the items we wanted. It was embarrassing the way she humiliated us in front of the other customers, and she continued to speak about it to others while we were still sitting there trying to enjoy our drinks. You would think it was $100 menu that we defaced not just a photocopy. She was very rude and for that reason we will not be visiting your establishment again. If I died and I went to heaven, the Bent Ladder is exactly what I picture it would look like. This place is possibly the greatest place I may have ever been too. I came here from Chicago on a weekend getaway. It may seem like you're in the middle of nowhere but rest assured, there's a sign that'll tell you you're at the right place. The weekend had beautiful acoustic music. The outdoor seating which introduces you to the most marvelous scenery I may have ever seen mixed with the ambience of nature and even the passing train is all too captivating. Inside, the place is really clean, the staff is friendly , the guests here are outstanding. All of the Ciders are worth trying. This place has a small food menu but that's the least of my issues. The only downside is they don't have food which is always a minus for me. In my opinion if you sell alcohol you should sell food. This place was so cool and had great cider to boot! They also have wine but I was sticking to cider at this visit. Hopefully we will be back so I can try the wine, too! The tasting room is really nice with large windows overlooking the beautiful grounds. It was gorgeous out the day we visited so we chose to sit outside at their picnic tables. The views are awesome with several ponds down from the hill the place is perched on. They don't have a full kitchen but do have some meat and cheese trays available. We picked up a pizza on our way there since we were stopping around lunch time. They informed us we weren't able to have outside food inside the tap room but could enjoy it outside. No problem for me as I wanted to enjoy the beautiful weather anyway! We later found out they request this because of the smell of the food interfering with people's tasting experiences. (In case you were curious- I know I would be.) In the warmer months (starting after Memorial Day, I believe), they have live music and food trucks outside every Friday and Saturday night. I wish we lived closer because this would be my spot if we did!! Okay, on to the cider. They have 8 different ciders. You can get a flight of 4, so my bf and I decided to each get a flight so we could get all 8 to try. I favored the sweater ones. Although I wouldn't say they are extremely sweet, probably more semi-sweet. They were all pretty good though and made it hard to decide which one I wanted as a full drink! Awesome view on the hill, with a cute patio. They have food trucks come in on the weekends. The one that was there was fantastic, they even had a veggie salad (pictured) made with vegetables all from the farm there. Twelve different ciders made for a fun few rounds. They had Very unique flavors along with classics. Wasn't a fan of their wines, but I was there for the cider and that definitely delivered. My husband scheduled a "mysterious" date with me on a Saturday in June. His directive? "Be ready to go at 4:30!" I am a female, thus I require more information... "Should I dress up?" "How dressy?" "Will we be outside?" (This question is imperative in our relationship since God only knows where I'll end up.) "Do I need to bring a jacket?" (The last question just reinforced the previous question which might have helped my husband mentally negotiate whether or not I would be cold at some point and whether or not I would be sitting in our vehicle during a portion of the evening). He took me to Rittman Orchards, more specifically, the Bent Ladder Tasting Room. Holy cow!!! I was struck by the beauty of the grounds! My immediate thought was that I was spending the afternoon on a ladder picking apples (and baking pies all day on Sunday.) We were there for a cider tasting! I love wine and wineries so I was a bit pensive at first. I had no need to be... the cider at Bent Ladder is nothing like store-bought hard cider. Their cider is like a lightly carbonated wine. The layers of flavors are amazing and we tasted ALL of them! My favorite was "Ginger" which was white and clear (much like a sauvignon blanc) but the flavor was like a Greek wine called Retsina (imagine pine sap and apples). We brought a howler home with us!! Smoke, juicy fruit, tangy apples - we loved all of the samples we tasted. There is truly something for everyone here... The interior is rustic but feminine - accented by stainless steel touches. A glass-windowed cathedral ceiling brings the valley below into view for patrons who choose to sit inside. Framed photographs of the vineyards/orchards taken during all four seasons grace the walls of the tasting room. Pillowy snow-covered aisles remind me that it is summer for a short time. It was a beautiful Saturday evening so we wandered the grounds during sunset. We sat outside for a while with our cider overlooking the lake and listened to a musician who sounded like Joni Mitchell. The view is great for an Ohio suburb. That being said the cider isn't good, the staff is bad, at their best. The cider selection is decent but they taste awful. Basically all the cider is just bad. If you are an extreme cider fan you may find one that is decent and palatable. I've been there several times to enjoy an evening view but never felt like the staff cares about anything. They are pretentious and arent based in reality. I remember the first time i tried to tip the server behind the bar, they went on a long speech about how they dont accept tips and any money that is left goes to some animal charity fund, so after listening for 2 minutes i just walked away. If the workers don't want a tip thats cool, but dont start singing the blues about some animals?? So i left the bar really confused about tipping and then after i tasted the cider I was even more confused at how they are in business. It tasted bitter, sour, slight notes of plastic, and a finish that could scrape the paint off the rear end of dump truck. Eventually i found a cider that wasnt horrid, but still feel ripped off after you get the bill. If you want a good time just bring a six pack of Reds or Angry Orchard and enjoy the view. Not only is this winery in one of the most beautiful settings one could have in Ohio, the drive there from Southern Cuyahoga County is almost as dramatic. Ironically, my parents and I travelled there decades ago for My Mom' s required "nice long ride in the country" to purchase produce on the grounds at Rittman Orchards. I suggest one arrives before six to make purchases at the orchard and then walk over to the winery. The Bent Ladder is different in that both ciders (logically with the orchards) and wines are available. The ciders paired well with the tray we had consisting of veggies hummus and pita. My wife enjoyed the wine flight, tho neither of us have the expertise to give in depth reviews. Staff was more than friendly. One can bring food, but they request that you dine outside. Handicapped accessible altho we don't need it yet :) The view is priceless but free. read more

Won't be back. Went on a busy fall Saturday and the woman behind the counter was unbelievably rude. She started yelling about there being too many people inside- (there was no employee at the door keeping count-) then yelled that the last 4 people in should get out. Then she started in on one of our party for taking a sip of his cider. She was so rude that several other people commented on it and walked out with us. As we were leaving, several more people told us how appalled they were at her attitude. This woman needs a class in manners- she has no business in a customer service position. I would say the only reason I go here is because the atmosphere is beautiful. Other than that everything is eh. I love love wine and cider and I've tried almost all of their in flights and I have not liked a single one. They are terrible tasting. And the staff is soooooo slowwwww. There is always a line out the door and not because it's popular. I have been there several times and they never have a sense of urgency behind the bar. I always leave so frustrated. Awesome place! We've come back a number of times for the Friday and Saturday live music and food trucks. The ciders have a range of distinct and delicious flavors. We've tried a few of the wines and I prefer their whites over their reds... but these are just their first few batches so I'm sure it will just keep getting better. This is a pretty chill tasting room that a lot of people don't know about (yet). The establishment is essentially a cider mill and winery, and the selection seems to be about ten of each at any given time. The ciders are generally excellent, and the variety there is substantial. The wines are ok, but the fact is that this area in Ohio has stiff competition for affordable local wines. Service is good, though the two or three staff at any time can be overwhelmed with larger groups or particularly busy evenings. Lastly, I can't review this place without noting the setting. The view across the hillside is gorgeous, and the owners have designed the establishment in a way that takes advantage of the natural beauty. All in all, this is a lovely establishment that I'd recommend for a quiet evening out with a small group of family or friends. read more

My husband and I went there and were disgusted at the treatment from the frumpy server. We asked what different ciders tasted like. The woman made it a point that "they don't usually allow people to sample," even though it's listed on their website they they are $.50. (All the prices were substantially higher too, by the way). Then she proceeded in letting us try a sample to decide what we wanted. We finally got a pitcher of Queen Bee and were given plastic throw away cups. (The prestigious couple behind us were given the same cider with real glass glasses). The atmosphere was very pretentious and the frumpy woman was a very poor judge of character. (Like that should even be a thing since we wasted money there). We felt ostracized, and will take our business elsewhere and to places that aren't in the middle of nowhere and don't treat their guests as if they are stupid. And we will tell everyone at the hospitals that we work at to never go there too. (She said it was "illegal" to sell 4-"tall boys" of cherry cider for $20 and she had to charge $10-each to drink them there ). She's so stupid and thinks she can lie and say it's a law when she is clueless when she is taking to people who actually know the laws. I had to make my husband refrain from asking her to tell him the laws. We drank the tiny pitcher, left and will never go to that podunk town again. read more

This establishment requires a mask to enter the building even though they are not located in a county where it is mandated. I respected that decision and stayed outside the whole evening and let my husband purchase our wine to drink outside, because I have a medical condition and can't wear a mask. Just before their 9 pm closing, I entered the building (after all other customers had already left) to use the restroom. Upon leaving the restroom I was accosted by an employee who told me to never come back if I couldn't wear a mask. I explained the medical condition and that we had spent over 100$ there that evening and that I didn't deserve her rudeness. Her answer to me was not to come back ever again. So that kind of customer treatment is what you will get at this place...too bad that they have allowed this mask debate to cloud their number one priority - me, the paying customer!!!
