I've enjoyed the Mai Tai Sunset Catamaran cruise quite a few times now, and I must say, it gets better every time! A group of friends and I went on the sunset cruise last Sunday and had a spectacular experience for several reasons: first, the crew is great. They are kind, charismatic, and kept our mai tai cups filled to the brim throughout the 1.5 hour excursion. Second, you can't beat the views. Waikiki is absolutely beautiful from the water, and the sunset is pretty damn glorious. Finally, the atmosphere is FUN- I mean, really, really fun. Everyone is there to have a good time, and by the time you depart from boat, I guarantee you'll be grinning ear to ear. Can't wait to try the Friday fireworks cruise!! Prices are reasonable, considering that you can enjoy as many drinks as you want (they offer house-made mai tais, budweisers, and a sparkly wine). I LOVE this catamaran's crew! My now husband and I have the fondest memories of a date we had on it in our early stages of courtship. I decided to surprise him with this date because he works a stressful job and we are always on the lookout for relaxing activities. I filled his belly up at Bills Sydney and off we went. *He HAD mentioned once in passing that he was seasick, but how bad can that be? Like, I get carsick when I read, but then it goes away? We approach the boat and a look of dread passes over his face. "We're not going on that are we?" Well, yeah, that's why we're in line. Remember that we were in the early stages of dating, so he couldn't get mad at me! We board the boat, snag some all you can drink mai tais, and off we go. He looks terrified. I feed him more drank. About ten minutes in, I realize that this whole seasickness is legit, and very much a thing. The crew gives him his own bucket to hold on to and he proceeds to relieve himself of his breakfast. So much so that they give him 2 buckets to chum the water with. As supportive as I like to think I am, I must confess that I have a terribly inconvenient flaw: I laugh at inappropriate times. Like, not a tiny chuckle, but a full out, ugly, loud, obnoxious, scream laugh. This lasted pretty much every time I looked at him. The crew tells him that focusing on the horizon sometimes helps, so he alternates squinting at it and filling up his bucket. He named it Wesley and we have photos of it that I will need to update this with soon. Too bad Wesley wasn't bigger. The crew was even nice enough to empty and rinse it out whenever he threw up, so basically one crew member was assigned to him the entire trip. I was worried that we would be too disruptive and disgusting for other passengers but their mai tais were strong and everyone had a good sense of humor, laughing along with my scream laugh and occasionally encouraging him. I didn't look for sea life, but oddly enough I had the best time. When we landed he stopped long enough to give the crew an exorbiant and well earned tip and ran off. We even would have purchased keepsake photos but as soon as he touched land he went running off for the nearest shrub (apologies, Sheraton). All in all, I can't say enough about the crew and their ability to deal with people like us. It's reasonably priced to get out in the middle of the ocean for a while, and I believe they run groupons frequently, don't hesitate to check them out! read more

I got a groupon 2 for 1 for a trade winds sail with MaiTai. It was great! Clarry and Lindsay were awesome , my fiancé loved the Mai tai and the champ-tai Lindsay suggested. Great picture from the photographer when you board the boat. Great weather and fun ! If you sit up front you will get splashed! :) I think they might need another hand when guests are leaving the boat to get pictures, photographer seemed a bit overwhelmed with the massive crowd of people swarming her for their photo... Understandable. Will be back for sure. read more

So for my first Catamaran we went with a friend because we got a really good Groupon deal. So Ryan was our bartender, and i didn't catch the other guys name, but they were awesome! The boat leaves right on time and they immediately come around to serve you drinks. They were funny and really outgoing. It was the fast hour and a half of my life because we were having so much fun. We did sit in the splash zone, and boy did we get wet but it was a great time. We were lucky enough to see one sea turtle! 10/10 will do again, probably very shortly. Five-star review for the two sails we've enjoyed with these guys. Both times the crew has made a beautiful cruise on the open ocean a trip that exceeds the excellent value you can find on Groupon or by searching the web for a code. We've yet to see whales or dolphins, but it is rumored that they often do (whale season is winter btw). The dolphins seem to show up on the earlier day sails. Make sure you don't mind getting wet ... Or, potentially, soaked! It seems that no matter where you sit you risk a rouge wave deciding that you are its target. Safest place to stay dry is by the captain, and they do have dry storage for your small bags. Reasonable drink prices and a delicious mai tai. A great touristy activity that doesn't feel like one. read more

2 stars because I never actually got on the boat, so it may have been ok. It looked awful, absolutely not what I was expecting at all. No refunds, even though I was physically there on time. In fact, I arrived an hour prior to departure time. The customer service was so rude, unhelpful, and dismissive, I would never bother trying again. They say "open bar" but that just means Costco mai tais, cheap beer and wine. Thank goodness I'm not on vacation, because this would be a complete waste. I've also noticed from looking at the other bad reviews , that a rep from the company often responds to blame or point fingers at a third party , such as a Groupon, reservation sites, etc instead of being accountable for poor service. That is a huge red flag that a company is not worth working with! read more

Talk about bad customer service. We got a call 10 mins before boarding- boat leaves at the 3pm- we got a call at 2:35 that they had left and we can get picked up at a second pick up spot- a 15 min walk. I called to cancel and get a refund for the miscommunication and they read the whole "policy of refund" give me a break. I told the first receptionist/ customer service rep that a call would have helped the situation since I dont check my email often on a trip/ vacation especially when a last minute change is made and apparently "A Courtesy Call" was made. Also to the receptionist/ customer service rep- where's the email??? I guess I don't recommend this "business ". read more

I wasn't really expecting too much on the catamaran sail because I bought it via groupon. The booking process through groupon was super easy, as you just book it online, and you show up on the day that you booked! The place that you meet up is a little tricky to get to, we got lost a few times but we still got there on time so just allow yourself some time to get lost. They tell you to be there 30 minutes before sailing so try to abide by that since you CAN get lost haha. The boat looks pretty small but it can easily fit about 20-30 people. All the workers were super helpful and very friendly, and they would help point out cool photo ops! The sailing itself was also nice, it sails along waikiki beach and you get a great view of diamond head in the background as well which makes an awesome photo! Also they serve $5 dollar mai tais that they make fresh every day, and I can vouch that they were DELICIOUS ANDDD relatively strong as after 1 drink I was pretty buzzed. Overall I would highly recommend this to everyone who wants to go sailing. Its about an hour and a half, the people are friendly, and you get some delicious drinks on board!! I was sad we didn't get to see any whales or dolphins however we still had a great time sailing with the wind in our faces and just enjoying the ocean! read more

I have lived in Hawaii for over a year and I don't know WHY I haven't done the Mai Tai Catamaran until now!!! This activity is some many things in one: A) It is beautiful...well heck yes it is. You are sailing the Pacific Ocean with views of Waikiki and the endless ocean waves, with the wind blowing in your hair. B) It's fun...you get to sip on a lovely adult beverage (sorry kids) and they make their OWN Mai Tai drink daily. And it's relatively cheap. We should all appreciate a good drink in Waikiki that doesn't break the bank (am I right?!?!). C) It is a great memory to have with friends or family. I love the catamaran so much that I've decided to make it a MUST activity for anyone who visits me. It's that good people! D) The staff love what they do and you can tell. From the two times I've been on Mai Tai, I have never met a crew member that isn't enjoying their job. They have a bar tender on the catamaran and a main captain sailor (I have no idea if a "main captain sailor" is a legit title but you know what I mean). They even play music while you sail the waves. Annnnnd they played Despacito. SCORE!!!!! Long story short...learn from my mistake and DO NOT wait to book your Mai Tai catamaran. Stop making excuses and go for it. I promise you won't be disappointed. A couple of pointers for your trip: 1. Groupon: check Groupon first to see if they have a special going on for this activity. I've used groupon both times I went. If you don't have to pay sticker price, take advantage of it. 2. Attire: you're in Waikiki folks so wear whatever you feel comfortable in but I would not recommend pants. If you are in direct sunlight, it gets a bit toasty. For me, I wore a bathing suit because I wanted to work on my tan :) 3. The wind: it's there for the entire trip so hold onto your hat and embrace the water that "may" get splashed on you (depending on where you sit). Those are my tips people. A great way to get out on the water in Waikiki! The captain of the boat is from WA and super knowledgeable. We went out for the tradewind sail in the afternoon on a Sunday and even though the weather was overcast and cooler, the sail was still fun. We sat near the front of the catamaran and got very wet on the way out to sea. Note: if you want to stay dry, stay towards the back of the boat! They have a dry cabinet for purses and things you won't need to access during the sail and also half covered storage for shoes and things that you may need mid sail that may get wet. There is one other crew member on the boat to help switch up to sails when it's time to turn around and also to help make beverages. They offer both beer and Mai Tai's onboard for $5, but they also didn't mind people bringing their own things to eat and drink onboard. read more

Great time on catamaran - even saw a sea turtle! Crew / staff was very helpful assisting me and my husband in and off the catamaran--no anxiety or feelings of being insecure about boarding and off boarding. Yes Maita'i Catamaran! I would do this every week if I lived on the island. We got a Groupon for here and, after much debate which Catamaran I wanted to book, I am SO happy I chose this one! Once on board you set out to sea. They do not let you on the Catamaran nets, which was actually really disappointing. We sat up front though right next to them. After you get going they serve up homemade Mai Tai's for $5 each. I recommend you BRING YOUR OWN reusable glass to drink out of. First, it's the environmental thing to do. Second, you get more for your buck than if you use their non-recyclable plastic cups. Third, just do it! If you bring a large Yeti they may charge you $10 since it is much bigger. While you are sailing they play music and you can just hang out with your friends or family and catch up while enjoying the ride. There really isn't much else to do but soak up the sun and enjoy the views with a drink in hand. The captain told us there were dolphins spotted earlier and not a minute later we were surrounded by like, 15+ dolphins swimming right next to us. Everybody was freaking out and taking pictures. It really was so cool though! But did I mention... $5 Mai Tai's! They were delicious, like juice! If you ask you can pay a bit extra to have it topped off with a Champagne bottle! read more

The manager Lahela was unpleasant to deal with when trying to change our reservation. Calling the 1-800 number doesn't help, there's literally no way to get in touch with the owner. I'm only giving 5 stars because of the superb service we received from DUSTIN and KIA. They were both so kind and attentive. Kia was so sweet to my family including my toddler. Planned a nice sunset cruise, knew there was going to be a weather issue and scheduled around it. Talking with the folks there was welcoming and didn't receive any heartache trying to plan our trip or change the date. The meeting place is kind of secluded behind the Sheraton resort right on the beach. The landing spot is located towards the rear of the hotel next to the outdoor bar and infinity pool. Nice lounge area to sit and have a drink while you wait to set sail. Once you board the ship you meet the lifeguard/bartender along with the driver of the ship, real down to earth guys who welcome you aboard and are very gracious hosts with plenty of stories to share along with making you feel at home. Since I opted for the sunset cruise, drinks are free and non stop, that ticket is a bit pricy but well worth the added cost. Great time out and enjoyed the views of Waikiki. read more

I feel like it is time I do a review for the, considering I have gone on this catamaran for about 5 times now, no kidding. Every time, my friends come, I take them on this and it never gets old! There is usually a Groupon deal that you can get and it comes out super cheap, like less than $20 per person. It is really a good view of Waikiki with the wind in your face. I absolutely love it and of course you can't forget the Maitai...it's called Mai'tai Catamaran for a reason. They actually make their own maitai and sell it onboard, so don't forget to bring some cash. Nothing like sailing with a maitai in your hand. Sometime if you are lucky, you can see sea life. During whale season, we saw a few whales. I also saw a few sea turtles and my favorite is the monkseal, which can only be found in Hawaii. So what are you waiting for, it's a always a beautiful day for sailing in Hawaii!! Last, but not least, the captain and crew work super hard, so don't forget to tip them at the end of your trip. read more

Many things in Hawaii are overpriced, but this trip is not. It fully lived up to all expectations and at this price, I would go again! Just the complimentary drinks make it worthwhile. Keya and Ian were great and made the trip truly memorable. Granted, we lucked out and only had one other couple with us so it was pretty much a private sail!
