This is a wonder dessert shop in downtown Philly. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was surprisingly not too busy. The dessert case at the front entrance has an amazing selection of fruit-themed desserts. The shop was nice and relaxing, very easy to just sit down and chill. We ordered the taro crepe cake and mango oat milk matcha. Both were really delicious and very fair pricing. This is a dessert spot that would be very comparable to what you would see in NYC, except less packed and not as pricey. A 5/5 place for sure! read more

There's a lot of construction going on with the windows (must have been some kind of smash during the winter), but outside of the eyesore, it did not significantly impact our experience dining in tonight. We came over to try their mousse desserts at around 7:30 pm on a Thursday night. We got a table for two pretty quickly and looked through the menu which had their unique desserts in plated forms. At the front, it seems like you can get their individual desserts to go. It was very bright, open and relaxing inside with the couch like seats. Yuzu - This came with their yuzu mousse, mango apricot sorbet and a sort of crumble with a cookie under the yuzu mousse. It looked really realistic with how they crafted it. The mousse itself was light and fluffy with a nice layer of vanilla cake. Paired with the sorbet, it was more sweet and refreshing which helped balance the sour yuzu. I really enjoyed the crumble on the side which added more texture and depth overall. My sister opted for the mango which came with a mango mouse and pecan butter ice cream. This was very well balanced as well from the fresh mango jam center to the creamier nutty pecan ice cream. Tiramisu Mille Crepes: 6/10. I absolutely love tiramisu but this was mushy. They have a traditional tiramisu that I didn't order. Jasmine Green Milk Tea Boba: 7.5/10. The tea was great, however, I ordered a Large (20oz) and was given a smaller size (12oz). The boba was undercooked and hard. I added red bean and some were undercooked as well. It's more of a restaurant vibe than cafe. I didn't mind it but didn't expect to be seated by a hostess. Honestly service was a bit slow before they came to take our order. I got a matcha oat milk latte which was tasty. My friend wanted an uncaffeinated tea but they only had two options and they were sweet milk teas. I asked for a cup of water but they only have hot water available so she gave me a cup of hot water with ice, which was a bit bizarre, but at least she tried. Maison Sweet is a contemporary bakery serving afternoon tea alongside adorable and aesthetic desserts. Reasonably priced, I'd actually recommend 3+ individuals splitting the afternoon tea set for 2. --- I went to Maison Sweet on a weekday mid-day for the afternoon tea deal for 2. Not a sweet tooth, I found the deal to be a large number of sweets (we took half home after just doing a sampling). They included one pot of tea (non-refillable?) which lasted us until the end of our meal. We were seated upon arrival ASAP but we found at times it was hard to communicate with the server/find them despite the bakery not being very busy. However, the food and tea did come out very fast! We ordered the Afternoon Tea Set for 2 (which honestly we felt should be split among more than 2!). We received an (A) Earl Grey Cream Puff (since the other options were sold out), (B) Tiramisu- Special Cream Cake, (C) Matcha Coconut- Mille Crepe Cake, (D) Mango Sorbet - Ice Cream, and (E) Organic Tea (of which there was no option to change it). Our ranking of favorites was the (1) Earl Grey Cream Puff, (2) Mango Sorbet, (3) Matcha Coconut Crepe Cake, and (4) Tiramisu. The cream puff had a fantastic earl grey tea flavor, perfect cream puff soft shell with a flavor similar to a pineapple bun, and was not too sweet. The mango sorbet was a very standard sorbet and had a good velvety texture. The matcha coconut cake had a good flavor for the coconut portion but we felt there was too much matcha filling, such that it felt more like a matcha pudding. We didn't really care for the matcha half, but if you are a big matcha fan, it could be a hit for you! Lastly, we didn't really enjoy the tiramisu. It didn't really have any coffee flavor and was a bit dry compared to typical tiramisu. The Afternoon Tea Set for 2 is certainly aesthetic, affordable, and fun. I think it is one of the only locations for afternoon tea near the UCity area. Reasonably priced and portions of a great size, I would recommend this to any group of friends trying to plan a catch-up or hangout together! I popped in on this inconspicuous place on Chestnut St. in University City one recent morning and was pleasantly surprised by the place. Having seen the name being the French word for 'house,' I assumed it was a French-inspired cafe, but one look inside and it is obvious the place is decidedly Asian-inspired chic. Upon approaching the front counter, a young lady asked if we would like to be seated, a unique twist for a coffee house. Though we weren't expecting to dine in, my friend and I agreed to hang out and have some coffee and a dessert for a bit. The seating area at Maison was hella cool, warm and stylish, with cool lighting throughout. Our waiter was friendly and efficient and the coffee/ espresso was good, but it was the desserts that left me wanting to come back for more. Simply delectable, and I can't believe I forgot to take a photo of my Caramel Cheese Pudding. Grrr! Very pretty place and even more aesthetically pleasing pastries (not the ones we got but check out their other items). We got the Jasmine Crepe Cake, Mango Pomelo Sage Crepe Cake, Iced Matcha with Strawberry and Iced Cocoa Milk Tea. Contrary to the name, the Jasmine cake had barely any taste or fragrance of Jasmine. The Mango Pomelo Sage has a harden layer of Mango puree on top that should technically be at the bottom of the cake because the design makes it impossible to cut it without butchering the whole slice. I was truly hoping this place would live up to the hype but unfortunately, it fell quite short. It is a beautiful space with us a fun vibe - you have a large bar, modern seating, and some Instagram worthy photo opprtunities. The parking situation isn't too bad with a couple of garages nearby. The King Taro had no flavor. Literally just no taste - the milk didn't even taste of anything! I stirred and stirred but nothing came from it. As for the Strawberry Matcha Latte...Honestly I dont think I ever drank a matcha THAT bad. The matcha itself was incredibly thick, the texture reminded me of a cheap syrup so I don't even think it was matcha. The strawberry was fine but overly sweet so you have a thick, unpleasant gooey liquid mess. As for the desserts, I had the polar bear, the mango, and the coffee bean. The polar bear was tasty with the chocolate pudding but the vanilla was lost. The apricot sorbet that came with it was very grainy and tasted just like ice. The mango dessert was cute and tasted fine. Subtle mango flvaor and had the best ice cream! I don't even like butter pecan but it was quite nice. As for the coffee bean, all I got was hazelnut and nothing else. The ice cream that came with it was dense and I could barely spoon a bit of ice cream to try. The sesame cream puff was good, but I liked the tiramisu one much better. The polar bear was aesthetically cute but nothing special taste-wise. I really enjoyed the yuzu mousse cake. The hard shell was very citrusy, and the crumble base was sweet and really good. The strawberry cream cake was not too sweet, and the jasmine crepe cake was good but didn't taste like jasmine. I've tried a few of their pastry options and the stand out is definitely the yuzu mousse cake. The citrus gave a nice sharp and tart flavor to the mousse. Other than that, I think their other options are decent but do not stand out. With cream puffs and crepe cakes being the dessert craze for the past few years, the version that Maison Sweet does not leave a lasting impression. Similarly, the drinks are standard as well. I ordered the Rose Milk Tea once, which had some rose flavor but lacked a robust tea flavor. I have received good service each time I have visited so no complaints there. I appreciated the time taken to create each of the whimsical desserts like the polar bear vanilla mousse cake and the mango mousse cake. My favorite was the mango mousse hands down! The mango mousse had delicate layers to it. It was not overly sweet and a nice portion size. At nearly $10 for one, I think it is worth it on special occasions. If I were to go again, I would just buy multiple of the mango mousse. The polar bear cake was my second favorite. The mousse is very light and smooth. The least favorite was the hazelnut cake. This is hands down a top 3 dessert shop in my list. The desserts here are phenomenal. They all are packed with flavor but aren't over powering in sweetness. I've had the jasmine milk mille crepe cake, the salted egg taro cake, and Ferraro cake. The jasmine was the best so far. The salted egg taro cake was okay, nothing special, I would recommend trying the other flavors first. You can order in store and take your food to go or dine in and do work/study there. The space is beautifully designed. The employees are super friendly and can run you down the menu. My favorite matcha is the matcha mango. The matcha they make is so creamy and delightful - the green is just amazing. They use fresh fruit which I really appreciate. Matcha Yuzu Mille Crepe Cake - The yuzu adds a refreshing tanginess to the creamy crepe cake, and while I do wish the matcha was a bit stronger (I love a strong matcha flavor in desserts), the combo was really yummy. I was visiting Philly and drove by a big grand opening sign. Decided to not go to the dessert place we originally planned to go to, and found a parking nearby to check out this place during their grand opening week... only to leave very disappointed and frustrated. When we walked in, we were pleasantly surprised at all the decorations and beautiful desserts. There was a bit of a line to order, but the line for dine in was different (on the right side as you enter). We were seated right away and given the menu, and there were so many desserts and drinks to choose from! Our server came right away and wrote down our orders on her physical notepad. The ordering machine (?)/their station was right behind us, where another server was standing there and they started chitchatting. I guess that's when she forgot to put our order in, because after about 20 minutes of waiting we didn't get anything. Then our same waitress came to us and asked if we were ready to order... like how did she forget that she's the one who took our orders?? So we told her she took our orders, but she did not recall. So she took our orders AGAIN and finally put them in the system (we watched her). It took another 20 minutes to get our first order. The drinks were mild and the flavors didn't really mesh well together. The taro was very smudgy and the texture was not pleasant. The Mango Tropical Tea was said to be very popular, but it was not worth the price.. It honestly just tasted like very fresh orange juice.. Then, the wrong orders started to come out.. What we ordered never came, and we were tired of constantly telling the people bringing out the desserts that these are not what we ordered. We called our server up and she didn't even remember our orders.. so we clarified and even pointed out on the menu what we ordered. Then the second dessert finally came out, but our third dessert (the Patrick Star one) did not come. I wanted everything to come out to take a picture but at this point we were just so tired of waiting and constantly getting the wrong orders.. At this point, we were here for about 1 hour and had only couple bites of our orders. When the last dessert finally came, we asked for the check and to-go boxes because we didn't want to be here any longer. Our server said that they charge for the to-go bags and containers, and we were just appalled.. After having to make us wait for that long because she never put our orders and forgot our orders constantly, we were asked to pay even more to bring these desserts home... I guess she saw our disappointed faces since in the end she said we could take them for free, but the bags said 'A La Mousse.' No wonder all these desserts looked so familiar.. TL;DR if you want to eat the desserts, to go the parent dessert place A La Mousse in Chinatown b/c their service is WAY better.
