I tried the gochujang scallion bun along with the banana matcha, and I enjoyed both of them. The flavors felt unique and different from the typical cafe menu you usually see around Philly. I will say it's definitely on the pricier side though, I paid almost $20 just for those two items. However, I still would come back because I did genuinely enjoy what I got and I'm interested in trying more of their pastries and drinks next time. The cafe itself is also much smaller, so I wouldn't really consider it the ideal place to sit and hang out with friends for a long time. It feels more like a quick stop for coffee and pastries, but still a really nice addition to the area.

What I now struggle with is the accessibility factor for me. If I see a picture of food I like, if I miss my chance because of distance and schedule (I like to do a lot of activities), it's difficult to ask for one bun that's regularly served that I kept missing for awhile because they would always be sold out. Trying to reserve one by itself didn't feel right but it has been hard to make online communication. I didn't want to make such a big deal about one bun. So, I didn't. I understand it's one bun - so it might be too much to ask. I tried combining one bun with an entire pie order once or twice and this might've made things more confusing unfortunately. However, even when ordering an entire pie in advance, especially one that was made before . It is hard for me to know what is okay to be more than 2 weeks but ?maybe "less than 3-4+ months of ordering. ". I try to be a more than 2 weeks guy kind of thing by default. I understand things may not always be in supply and I am flexible to keep moving the date back to pick up am such and. Such a thing. Being able to pass on that understanding along has not entirely worked out for me. There is a casualness I feel like I have to have that is implied that really feels like a huge schedule disruption conundrum in my life. I don't live next to this cafe. It's much efforT for me to come here. I don't have friends in this particular area. These are all relevant factors for me. I actually feel stressed from this experience now. I got grabbed in by the TooGoodToGos offered at the previous location but maybe they aren't offered now because more money can be made spending time in other tasks and maybe there is not potential significant waste now. But having a concrete plan works for me and I am not always able to have this with things that have been made before. So, if I ever wanted something more custom made, would I be able to communicate that? Would I feel comfortable? I see some others have been able to have special requests from social media. I know I could tend to like to be more particular and to depend on the creator(s) to consult with potentially. I don't want to spend the money that most places would charge for such customizations and I felt this could work as a great option instead in the future. I have a hard time considering this somewhat lower rating for a very local business, but all things considered, I think it's fair for my entire personal set of experiences now. Maybe all of this is a sign that I just like food too much and I need to just move on.

Perfect chewy and crispy outer layer with a nice sweet inner layer. So many flavors to pick from!

I walked right up and ordered - you can look through the window at the pastries - and order which ones you would like. I immediately noticed these 'large' cakes (large compared to the pastries) and asked what they were - Pound Cakes - Lemon and Lavender. I opted for the Lavender. This was a 'simple' cake - a little icing on the top, and a very subtle lavender taste. It was moist and rich, but not too dense - perfect texture. It was a very enjoyable piece of cake. I may try the Lemon Pound cake next time. Next, was the Plum Almond Tarte - it looked amazing. The exterior was browned and had a delicious caramelized crunch to it. I could immediately taste the plum topping as I crunched on a few almonds. However, once I got to the interior of the tart, it was soggy - too moist. I don't think it's supposed to be that way - but it made the tart difficult to eat. It was very tasty, but the sogginess really detracted from the texture. There's an attached picture of the middle of the tart. I thought I would get a cookie and they had 4 choices - I chose the Molasses. It has been a LONG time since I had a molasses cookie. This one had a soft homemade texture - it was sprinkled with sugar. The deep taste of molasses came through immediately and left a delightful little 'bite' like fresh ginger or cloves might do. It was a great cookie. I saw some macaroons in the front of the window - plain and chocolate chip - I got the plain. I'm used to the 'store bought' macaroons-with finally chopped coconut and a soft creamy texture. This was NOT the Manishewitz coconut macaroon I grew up with....good thing! This was a 'real' macaroon - the coconut was shredded a longer length and had true texture. The cookie has a crispy exterior and a chewy coconut interior. I also ordered a mini tarte - the Pear Pistachio Tarte. It was covered in a pistachio crumble and a pear topping, with a pistachio custard filling, which had a reasonable consistency, unlike the Plum Almond. I'm a big pistachio lover and this little tart was yummy - the combination of nutty and fruity came out really well. Last, but not least, is the Apricot Financier. This is a very different pastry - moist - with a very subtle almond taste. There's a very small slice of apricot (I wish there would have been more) which added a nice fresh fruity chew to the light cake. While the cake tasted fine, it needed 'something' more. I'll be returning to Tarte - most likely for the pound cakes and a few cookies!
