Cake decorating set up and supplies- palette, inspiration postcards, pre-frosted mini cake, tools, and miscellaneous sprinkles
    Katie S.

O Cake Cafe is a new bakery in Chinatown with baked goods on par with, if not rivaling, the quality and taste of neighbors. I did their cake decorating workshop, which was a relaxing way to spend a weekend afternoon with friends. --- O Cake Cafe offers mini cake decorating for $26/pp. I thought this was a steal! To clarify, there is no "class" portion of the workshop and it isn't piping, but more like painting with palette knives on a cake. You will be given a cake, a palette, some tools, and allowed time to work peacefully at your own pace. I genuinely enjoyed the experience and felt like it was an stress-free time. However, it was a little messy! Also notably, they have a $10 credit card minimum. For the cake, you can choose between four shapes- circle, square, heart, and butterfly. They pre-frosted the mini cake with their white butter-based frosting. Separately, they also prepared a palette of butter-based frostings (pink, blue, yellow, green, and white), which is the same as the frosting on the cake. They provided some tools- pallet knives, tweezers, and a paintbrush. We were given postcards as inspiration photos, which we could then place on a mini-easel to reference as we worked. Lastly, there were some whimsical mini decorations like pearls, seahorses, starfishes, etc. The butter-based frosting was a little hard to work with since it was not set on the cakes. Since the palette also consisted of dyed butter-based frosting, this meant when you tried to add any frosting, the whole surface shifted around. In the future, I'd definitely let them know my cake shape early (via WeChat), if possible, to have an easier time decorating so they'll have more time to set the cake. I also wish there were more colors to choose from and more of each color to decorate with. Afterwards, they helped us box our cakes in clear containers. It was great to show off our work! We were also gifted complimentary Oreo mochi with whipped cream frosting with Oreo chunks inside- they were absolutely delicious! I felt like the mochi skin was a great texture. I also tried their pandan coconut cake. Honestly, I've never eaten too much pandan but it was such a great spongey texture, good flavor. Lastly, the physical cake I decorated was so delicious! It was the perfect spongey texture, and not too sweet. However, I found I had to remove a lot of the butter frosting I decorated with since it made the cake too rich for my tastes. I ate the cake in one sitting! Overall, I'd highly recommend O Cake Cafe's cake decorating to anyone who wants to spend an hour or two doing something fun, artistic, and edible at a great price! The cafe is new, so I think they're still figuring out the decorating workshop logistics. I'd recommend to not come if you're in a rush. Their dessert offerings are also very highly recommended.

My friends and I were looking for a dessert place after having lunch, and we stumbled upon O Cake Cafe and found out from the friendly staff that they had only been opened for a few days. The cafe is small, so it is not a place to hang out long at. We quickly ate and then left. We shared the durian crepe cake and chestnut crepe cake. The durian crepe cake was very flavorful while the chestnut crepe cake was more muted. The cakes were not overly sweet, which made them easy to eat. However, the crepes were a little thick. I also tried the matcha latte, which was okay. O Cake Cafe is not the best cafe out there, but they have unique cake flavors that I would come back for.

I ran in here for a quick stop and drink. Since it's a bakery, I wasn't expecting anything, but I was genuinely floored when I tried the strawberry matcha. This is the BEST strawberry matcha I've ever had - period. And it was only $5.50! Much cheaper than many of the actual cafes in the city. The strawberry jam was sooo flavorful. Some of my friends said it tasted more like strawberry milk than matcha, but I found it to be perfect.

I thought I'd written a review about this place before but to my shock I had not…read more I have been coming here since the day they opened, infrequently beacuse I am diabetic but when I want to spoil my body with delicious sugar, honey, this is *IT*. Now I could tell you all about how perfectly tasty everything is. From the classic banana puddings (I prefer the caramel version myself,) to the cookies, to the pineapple upside-down mini cakes. Yes, I could tell you that. But I want to speak to something deeper. I want to speak to belonging and community; and to fairness. As a biracial person with a brown sister, I feel the pull to support black and brown businesses. It's not a secret. And sometimes you do it, and sometimes you privately think "Damn. I wanna be supportive but this place is a mess." Then there's Sweet Life. NOT that. FILLED with good product at a great price, delivered by owners and staff who actually give a damn about being loving and supportive to all different types of people. And did I mention the sweets are POPPIN'? And to that statement of fairness. Today I came in to place an order, and when the price came up, for a moment I thought "Damn. That is a lot higher than I remembered, but I am not about to question them. They set the price and that price is what they deserve." So I paid. But then I noticed there was more in my bag that I'd asked for, and that there had been a miscommunication. When I tell you that this miscommunication was corrected with swiftness *AND* a smile. No shade. No drama. Just an "Ooops, oh well, here's your refund on the balance." I know this seems very basic but we all know it isn't. We have all been in that awkward situation where as a customer we have to point out an error, and the vendor turns it into a Shakespearan tragedy. Not Sweet Life. "Oops. Sorry! Fixed. Love you." So, to recap: Stunningly delicious sweets. Prices fair as hell. Communicative, inclusive staff doing the right thing. You need to take those money dollers and haul your ass over here TODAY. Now...where did I put my insulin pen?

The line was pretty long since we came on a Saturday morning, but it moved surprisingly fast. They had a huge selection of donuts, along with other baked goods and cakes. It was hard to choose because everything looked so good, but we ended up getting the apple fritter, maple bacon, and Biscoff donut. The maple bacon was definitely our favorite. The donut itself had this amazing sweet maple smell, almost like straight maple syrup. The bacon on top was a nice touch, and the whipped maple creme filling was delicious. It was definitely a sweet donut, but it hit the spot. The Biscoff donut came in a close second. It had the perfect filling-to-bread ratio, and as someone who loves anything Biscoff, this was super satisfying. Both of these donuts were incredibly soft and had the perfect texture. The apple fritter ranked third for us, but it was still really good. It wasn't as sweet as the other two, which was actually nice and helped balance everything out. I do wish it had been a little crispier and had more pieces of apple throughout, but I still enjoyed it. I'd absolutely come back to try more of their donuts, and I definitely want to check out some of their other bakery items too!

I have no idea what all I ordered, but I got 3 classic ones that you can get mostly anywhere, and then I got 3 wild ones at the choice of the worker there helping me out. I have to say, I really just prefer classic chocolate icing, or caramel icing regular donuts. The crazy ones with all the toppings and fillings are just weird to me. Krispy Kreme remains as always the GOAT of all donut shops, but I do like trying new spots. Certainly worth stopping by if you're craving a donut.

They definitely seem consistent, which I really appreciate. I came with a couple of friends on a Saturday afternoon, and wow... this place was packed. Even with the crowd, the staff stayed friendly and worked quickly, so we didn't have to wait too long for our drinks. One thing I still love is the seating. They have giant plushies sitting in the booths, so if you're by yourself, you're not just awkwardly staring at an empty seat across from you. Maybe I'm the only one who appreciates that, but I think it's a cute touch. The matcha here is the real deal. It's bright green, fragrant, and has that rich, earthy flavor with just enough natural bitterness that you know they're using quality matcha. A lot of places advertise matcha, but this one actually delivers. I ordered one of their matcha desserts with ice cream, and it was creamy, refreshing, and let the matcha flavor shine instead of burying it under sugar. My only complaint is that it was pretty warm inside. It was a hot summer day, and I honestly couldn't tell if the air conditioning was running or if it was just fans. Either way, it wasn't very cool inside. Thankfully I had ice cream, so it didn't bother me too much, but it's something to keep in mind if you're stopping by on a really hot day. Overall, another great visit. Friendly staff, consistently high-quality matcha, and a fun atmosphere. If you're a matcha lover, this is still one of my favorite spots in Chinatown.
