Absolutely delicious. The pastries are top notch. Perfectly buttery, flakey, and crunchy. They taste straight out of Paris. I always go early, but if you go a little later on the weekends, there is a line. Not a negative in my opinion though, that just goes to show how good they are and how popular they are! I ordered the BLT sandwich, the chocolate croissant, mille fe and the Canali. The BLT sandwich was premade so you could not add or make any changes to the sandwich. For me, there was too much mayo, and I could not remove any of it because you cannot make any changes to the sandwich. There were only two tomatoes on my sandwich so all I was tasting was lettuce and bacon however, the bacon was perfectly cooked and the lettuce was very fresh. Next the chocolate croissant: something was off about it. The flakiness was different than I expected unlike a normal croissant. Although they're the perfect amount of chocolate and other than that amazing it tasted amazing. The mill fe was one of my favorites that I ordered. The top was crispy and sweet. It was amazing and all the layers smashed together had a beautiful taste to it. finally, the Canali, the Canali was not as creamy as I wanted it to be, but it had a very crispy outside and a nice soft inside. If you can wait out the long line, the pastry is pretty good. You can smell the delicious baked goods the moment you pull into their parking lot (it's tiny so best to park on the street). Went again to Maison Benoit and picked up a few pastries and a baguette. Overall, everything we got was just ok. We go to Paris every year. There is an annual blind competition in Paris for the best baguette and croissant. Each year, we go to a couple of the boulangeries listed in the top 10 of each category. Given that, we have a reasonable idea of how a good baguette and croissant should taste. 1. The croissant we got was fair at best. It was not very flakey, was overly buttery and not as crisp as I would hope. Overall tasted like a better than average American croissant at Whole Foods, but nothing like the best Parisian croissant. The flakiness was clearly not there. The fact that there were very few flakes of crust in the bag is a bad sign. Also, did not have the slight sweetness and texture from the best croissants we have had. 2. We had baguettes twice there. The crust was fair, crunchy and a bit crisp. But nowhere near what you can get at one of the top ten baguette winner in Paris. The main problem was the taste of the bread itself. There was little flavor, or texture. Somewhat like typical white bread. I wonder how long they let the bread dough rise and ferment. Do they let it rise overnight to develop the needed flavors. The only plus about the seeded baguette is that the seeds supplements and hides the total lack of flavor in the bread itself. 3. The pain aux raisins and chausson aux pommes where ok, but nothing extraordinary or anything to write home about. 4. The chocolate almond croissant at $7.50 was definitely not worth the money, even at half that price. If was a hard piece of pastry dough, with some almond paste and chocolate in the middle, and some chocolate chips on top. 5. Cannot comment on any other items or on their sandwiches, which we have never tried. 6. Have not had their Paris Brest or millefeuille. However, I would never buy a pre made Paris Brest or millefeuille that has been sitting in a case for who knows how long. However, long it's been sitting there, is time for the filling to soak into the pastry dough and make it soggy. Just like a good cannoli, Paris Brest and millifeuille should be made as close to when it will be consume as possible. I know this is not possible for a typical boulangerie. However, at Jacque Genin in Paris (when they had their dessert salon open), they would make the Paris Brest and millefeuille only after you ordered it and brought it to you immediately. The flakiness and crispness of the pastry dough, not to mention the freshness of the fillings, is incredible. Overall, Maison Benoit is a good boulangerie for the Danville TriValley area. It's probably the best you're going to get in this area. Just don't expect that it can compete with the best boulangeries in Paris. Of course, that can be said for any boulangerie in the Bay Area. That being said, I think Arsicault in SF offers very good pastries and baguettes, and in my opinion, it is best in the Bay Area. read more

Finally a great bakery in Danville! There's probably one other "good" bakery in Danville (Blackhawk area), but this one is GREAT. I'm not going to dock any stars for the long lines (get there earlier) --- it's popular and they just opened so give them a break while they figure things out. Bouchon Bakery in Yountville still reigns supreme. Why? They always have a line no matter what time of day it is. They always have what seems to be an endless supply of almond croissants where Maison Benoit is constantly out of supply by 9:00 am. If you know people still want almond croissants after 9:00 am, why not just make more?! This is frustrating as they've not had them the last four times I've been there. Also, don't leave croque monsieur on the counter, it;s nasty especially with so many people in line, some of them sneezing or coughing. Golly geez! Ambiance is casual for sure with seating only as is available. We had to purchase the chocolate croissants instead of the almond. In all honesty, if you buy the chocolate croissants at Trader Joes, when the dough rises and they're baked, almost if not the same as Maison Benoit . Our new favorite bakery in the area! We love the breads and variety of desserts! The only improvement point we see is a more efficient way to place larger orders. It is very easy for the younger staff to be confused when given a large order of multiple boxes, but the young gentleman that we often see at the register on the weekends was super helpful! Absolutely amazing croissants and pastries. Worth the wait! A couple of suggestions though, all those workers need to wear a hat or tie up their hair! A lot of young kids with hair in their faces. Always on the hunt for great croissants and this is the place. It's was flaky on the outside and soft with lots of layers on the inside. Reminded me of ones I had in Paris. My clothes were covered in flees from it as I got up. I don't mind driving here for the croissants. Will be back to try some of the other items. Yesterday was my first visit and there was a line. I loved the croissants which were flaky and buttery. The best in the TriValley. We tried a Croque. Monsieur sandwich (just out of oven) and it was rich and cheesy. Can't beat fresh bread and baguette was good. The staff were very friendly and patient. I have a grandchild with nut allergy and it would be so helpful if you could note the items that have nut ingredients. Got there around 9:15 am, stood in line for 20 mins (we knew that would be the case). By the time we were ordering, they had already run out of the almond croissants (apparently they're usually the first to go). Ended up ordering the chocolate croissant and ham+ cheese croissant. Both were SO GOOD! The chocolate croissant melts in your mouth. Also service was great, you're in and out (once you step foot inside). Definitely recommend getting there by 7:30/8. read more
