    This is one of those "must tries" in the city for tourists and I was lucky enough to have it right outside my hotel window so I could see when the line was short (which wasn't often). I was originally confused at all the "fries allowed" signs but those mean you can take your fries from here and have a drink there with them. The fries were hot and fresh but honestly? If you end up missing this don't worry because it was just basically fresh fries. The salt didn't cling too well to them and the sauce is globbed on top which is kinda hard to eat. Definitely worth trying if the line is short but I wouldn't wait more than five minutes for these again, there are a lot of good options in this area.

    Happy Frites Friday everyone! Today, I had to try the famous Mason Antoine and it did NOT disappoint. When I ordered, the fries were literally taken straight out of the basket fryer. SO fresh and SO good. Tip- bring cash and go to the cash only line which is typically shorter than the cards line. A small is 3.30€. And ask for extra salt packets ! Voilà! Bon appétit .

    Maison Antoine's hype is definitely worth it and not an understatement. Their Crispy fries well seasoned with salt along with their wide array of exquisite sauces is the recipe for their success. My recommendation the tartare sauce which is mayo seasoned with herbs and some other secret ingredients Sizes are generous and if you're really ambitious you can go with a larger size for less than a euro more. Once you go maison Antoine, you can't go back. I am living proof of deception after trying another fries joint. Remember, calories don't count ;-)

    Being Celiac I've often had to pass on fries as most are fried with gluten contaminated oil...Maison Antoine has a separate fryer to my delight and THE most delicious fries...a must try if you are in the area even if you have to walk 2 km or more to get to them!!!

    Sought this out on my fry adventure through Brussels. This Maison Antoine is one of many locations in town. It's a booth without any seating, and when we came it was completely under construction so only the booth was visible. This location is in the center of an intersection surrounded by bars, and all of them allow you to take your fries in to eat with a beer or coffee as well. There wasn't much of a line on a weekday midday, but the service was fairly slow and moved at a snails pace. Overall, the experience was very fast food like and impersonal. They have a huge vat of fries in the front where they'll scoop them out in front of you. There is also food in the front counter in the same fried vein, like a 7-11 situation. They have a wide variety of sauces as expected - most of the sauces come in pre-packaged sauce containers as a side that they give to you. You can get as many sauce sides as you want at extra cost. The fries are toasty and meaty, with a delicious crunch. They come piping hot and mix well with the cold sauces you get. They definitely constant refill the large vat of fries in the front however, so you get a few stale bits mixed in which was not ideal. Overall, I liked the convenience of maison antoine especially being able to get as many sauces as I wanted, and having the bars around this location to sit around.

    Why we went here: We went to Maison Antoine due to the hype online and the media. We were surprised that the ratings on yelp and Google were mediocre. But given the hype we really wanted to give this place a try. Is it worth going? it turned out that the ratings online can be trusted. If you live in Europe or anywhere around the world and have had decent french fries you will find nothing special in those french fries. We thought that the sauces for 0.80€ each might make the difference and went with any sauce the comments recommended: 1) Samurai Sauce - slightly spicy mayonnaise 2) Tartare- mayonnaise with herbs (Remoulade) 3) androiche - Mayo + ketchup 4) curry ketchup - like any other curry ketchup from the grocery store It's cash only. The cashier wasn't the friendliest and the sauces were not worth 0.80€. In fact you can get these sauces from your grocery store and some might taste even better. 3 stars because it was not bad minus 1 star for the service and price.

    The fries were good but I really don't see what the hype is all about. Went here on a cool day in November and after reading all the raving reviews online, I figured I was in for a treat! The fries were good....crunchy and thick. But it really wasn't worth going out of my way for. The worst part was the owner who took our order...maybe he doesn't like tourists...but he made us wait for 10 minutes while he gave the people behind us their fries...and then when I went up and asked where my order was, he pretended he had forgotten and then starting signing (loudly) I just called to say I love you (Stevie Wonder). I didn't know if that was supposed to impress me or make me laugh! Overall, if you are seriously craving fries in Brussels and don't mind rude service or taking the metro/bus to get here....go for it. Otherwise, spend your time and money on some excellent belgian waffles and beer instead!

    In search of the best pomme frites, I found this place. In the afternoon, there were still 2 ridiculously long lines. We waited 45 minutes (on a windy 40-degree day) in line to place an order. Do not waste your time, money and stomach space on whatever other items they have on the menu. They're known for their frites. The other stuff suck! We tried the escargot...it was more like escarNO! Boiled snails that were more pale than somebody who has seen a ghost, chewy as rubber and just gross!!! Same thing goes with their sandwich. For example, the Filet American sandwich...saddest sandwich I've ever seen. I watched them schmear on a reddish-orange substance on a baguette. I thought it was pimiento spread. It was fish with ketchup and mayo all mixed together...bleeeccchhh! So, we took a bite of each disastrous non-pomme frites items and I could not recommend any of it so, stick with pommel frites and nothing else. Basically, the pomme frites were still outstanding enough to merit 4 stars despite the long lines and the other "food" we got. They use real potatoes and they are fried to perfection. The sauces were great. They have mayo and ketchup if you want to be on the safe side and not live a little. Their other sauces are pickles, bicky ketchup, bicky spicy, mason tartare, pili pili, chili, American, pepper, etc. Mason tartare (tartare sauce with mustard seeds), pili pili (spicy) and pepper (tastes like Cane's sauce) are my favorites. They're open until 1 or 2am. Located near Leopold Park. You can take your pomme frites and have a drink at the bars next to the shack. The one on the left of the shack is actually a partner of theirs so, it's absolutely ok to eat there.

    I had to travel a bit on the train to get to this place but man it was well worth the trek. I ate fries at several places during my visit to Brussels and this is by far the best. I chose a sauce that taste a little like tarter sauce. I liked ok but I would be interested to sample some of the others in the future because with such a large variety, I am sure I would find one that I more than just like. Just a note, there are several eateries and bars in the vicinity. Many of them will let you bring your fries with you. Pair the fries with a beverage and an entree at a nearby establishment and it makes the trek not so bad.

    We trekked across town to get our hands on classic Belgian frites, and ended up at Maison Antoine. You'll first notice the line, which took about 20 minutes to get through; they move at a quick pace. When we visited in mid-August, their storefront was under construction, so they were working out of a food truck at the time. We ordered the small fry, which for us was large enough to share for two, as well as two sauces. We did extensive research before ordering, so we knew which sauces to get. We went with the most recommended: samurai and andalouse (sp?). Samurai was a mayonnaise base, spicy, with a tangy bite. Andalouse reminded me a lot of 1000 Island or Big Mac sauce (I know, I know), as it was also mayonnaise-based and ketchup-y. Definitely not bad, though I prefer the spice of Samurai, and would like to try a few others (there are dozens). As other Yelpers mention, Maison Antoine is conveniently located in the center of several bars and restaurants, many of which boast being frites-friendly. The frites themselves had a crunchy outside, and fluffy inside, though these were more dense than others I had tried in Brussels. I highly recommend this spot for the location and sauce selection, while there may be more 5-star locations out there that meet the "fluff-level" most people expect of traditional Belgian frites.

    Items Selected: Small Frites with House Tartare Fricadelle Shrimp Croquette Chicken Croquette Beyond frustrated by Bouchery's refusal to seat me due to a "mistake," the name clearly in the online reservation system but not in the paper ledger despite a confirmation E-mail on my phone, it was with no other alternative offered that a trip was made to the most famous Friterie in all of Brussels, the queue at Maison Antoine only a dozen at each window, but still moving ever so slowly. Not particularly 'sold' on Belgian Frites being better than elsewhere after trips to Georgette and Tabora, one could not help but wonder if the historic kiosk at Place Jourdan in Etterbeek was doing something "special" to outpace the rest, and although the number of sauces and 'snacks' do indeed outnumber any other place in the city while the surrounding environment has grown to accommodate a "BYOF" economy the simple fact remains that these are merely fried potatoes made by teenagers in T-shirts. Waiting for perhaps thirty minutes, the rain having stopped for once with several patrons taking large orders to parties-in-waiting at nearby bars, the cash-only nature of Maison Antoine led to a somewhat truncated experience as there were limited Euros left in my pocket, yet making due with four items plus a sauce for just €8.90 the Fries, sampled first, were actually the least impressive item ordered - the texture of smaller pieces crunchy and preferable to larger slices while the thick white sauce was rich with herbs and actually pretty great. Now convinced that Belgian Frites are really just a delivery mechanism for Sauce, further bites from the 1948 hut included crispy fried Meat not quite as rich as that at Café Georgette, the two styles of Croquette actually much better with the Cheese version actually preferable to mild Shrimp flavors as the texture came across less runny, reminiscent an Italian Arancini with particularly creamy rice.

    I've done quite a few Frites places in Brussels over my five visits in two years, so I knew this trip I had to find Maison Antoine. As you'll see from my pictures, there's always a huge line, especially (as it was with me) Sunday afternoon. As well, the, uh... Smell is distinctive, and not in a good way. I'm not sure if it was the garbage bins or something else, but as a local would say, it was dégueulasse. I don't mind waiting for good Frites - it's part of the charm - and the staff was pleasant and friendly. The people in front of me were told if they weren't eating their fries immediately they wouldn't give it to them in a cone - that cones are meant only for immediate consumption. They package it differently (to keep it fresh and crispy) if you're talking it away. Now, the folks in front of me found this hilarious and made fun of the staff... I, on the other hand, saw this as exceptional service. One more star then to cover the smell issue. The fries were good. Not great. They were very small, and almost overcooked because of it, but not quite. I normally love Andalouse sauce... A tangy, sweet and slightly spicy sauce that complements grease well. In this case though there was way too much acid and it left my stomach churning. I'll likely return to the Place Flagey to see if that friterie still stands up to my two-year long memory. Maison Antoine? Go for the vibe, this quarter is pretty cool, you can take your fries into the pubs for a drink... But I'd probably omit the fries next time.

Le Chou de Bruxelles certainly did not disappoint -- the food was outstanding, the service impeccable, and the space delightful. The mussels were remarkably fresh and were a bit briny (as all mussels must be) but weren't overly fishy. Le Chou de Bruxelles offers a wide swath of sauces you can pair with your mussels, which is super fun; I ended up doing a more classic combo with white wine, garlic, and several herbs, but it was super tasty -- the herbs were super fresh and brightened up the overall dish, and the white wine was a lovely pairing with the shellfish. We also got their caprese salad, which was super tasty; the mozzarella was incredibly fresh and the tomato was perhaps the best tomato my friend had ever tried. It was presented in a rather entertaining way, with the tomato cut in half and hollowed out, then with the mozzarella packed inside the tomato. The service was also phenomenal and absolutely on-point. We were seated in the back of the restaurant right next to the patio door, so a few bees flew in and circled around our heads during our meal, but the staff was super friendly in helping us push the bees back outside. Vibes-wise, the restaurant is gorgeous and lively. It's a little bit out of the way from Central Brussels, so you end up with a good mix of locals and tourists. Absolutely love this spot and can't wait to come back in my next trip to Brussels!

The plate was quite generous and much appreciated since I devoured it. I enjoyed the creaminess of the potatoes swirled with gravy but the meat could've been a tad bit more tender. Service was good. I think everyone on the floor stopped by my table for one reason or the other. Ambiance was casual and looked like many people were taking their time over their meals. When finished you need head to the register to settle the tab. I paid in cash. Worth a return visit.

I was seated right away and the service speed was pretty quick. They have a decently sized indoor space as well as outdoor patio seating. The environment has a traditional Belgian restaurant/pub kind of vibe. Overall, Le Bistro has high quality traditional Belgian food in a pleasant setting and I would definitely recommend it if you are in the area near Porte de Hal / Marollen.

The vol au vent was creative because the dish normally inside a puff pastry but since this was a sample, they put a miniature pastry ring on top, which was cute and made it less heavy. Hubby had La Dinantaise (assorted duck plate with foie gras, smoked breast, gizzards, rillettes, terrine) served with a salad. I enjoyed the foie gras and duck breast but the rest was meh, but more of a texture thing for me. Overall, the food was okay but if you're looking for a variety of dishes to try, this would be a good option.
