Now this could be a little embarassing, because I just read the other reviews and Noemi S. has gone through exactly the same experience as me. So I will still tell my version :-)
2 years ago I moved from Geneva Switzerland to Brussels with wife and kids. We found an appartment in the Ixelles Ponds are, and for the first month I was there alone setting everything up while the kids were finising school back in Switzerland.
First visitors were my parents in law, and as I showed them our new home, they invited me for a bite and as the weather was amazing the Canterbury was a natural choice with it's nice terrace (I clearly recall it was above 30C... ), and the shade was welcome.
The dinner was nice, all the belgian classics, shrimp croquette, filet americain, cheese fondue (corquette), etc.. are flawlessly executed, absolutly perfect. The place has the reputation of having the best "americain" in town.
The waiters are amazingly old-school in the very positive sense, they do an amazing job, good advice for the very good wine selectin (the owners also own a wine shop downtown). So again there nothing to say.
My problem was when the bill came, I was a little caught off guard and annoyed because I had been told Brussels was so much cheaper than Geneva! It is but not this place. So for a pricey meal in a nice setting (inside the walls are impecaby decorated with nice art) it's a fantastic place. The crowd is of the upper brussels society....
Since that first experience I have gone back, but always invited by my dad who can't get enough of the americain when he visits :-) read more
