    Delicious Red Curry with chicken.
    Debbie G.

Always delicious! You have to try the stuffed chicken wings. So unique and yummy. I do not know how they do it but they stuff a chicken wing with filing similar to an egg roll. It comes two really good dipping sauces. One very spicy, wow! The curry dishes are packed with so much flavor and ingredients. Don't let the building exterior deter you, all the food is amazing. Order at the counter, simple decor with friendly service. Or order takeout. Some of their food options are gluten free. This is a must stop for me when I am in Appleton.

This is a small eatery but has some yummy items. I recommend trying the stuffed chicken wings. The chicken is flavorful and juicy. The stuffing is primarily rice noodles and cabbage. I prefer to order the wing spicy. The chicken itself is not spicy but you are given a very flavorful thai chili pepper sauce that is very tasty. The one thing I did not like was the nuoc cham (fish dipping sauce). It is too sweet and has little to no fish sauce in it. Parking: coming early as there are only a few parking spots near the building.

Pho was good, a little salty but overall good. Pad Thai was very good, I'm picky with Pad Thai and I considered it tasty and not dry! :)

I've been going here for years and am shocked to have never written a review on this fantastic little family restaurant. While it doesn't look like much on the outside and doesn't have great parking, it makes up for it with excellent food. When you enter there is a great menu board. There are photos of each item. For those who are leery because of not being familiar with the names, the visual really helps. You order, pay and then wait for your food. If you are in a hurry, you might be disappointed; they can get super busy and sometimes you need to wait. The wait is worth it. They are known for their stuffed chicken wings. They are exceptional and I've never seen them anywhere else. They also offer spring rolls (my favorite) and three different flavors of egg rolls to get your meal started. I love their Pho Combo but I've had almost everything on their menu at one time or another. I've never been disappointed. If you like your food a bit spicier, ask and they will prepare it to your liking. I prefer to eat at the restaurant; however, I've also ordered food for take out many times. The food has been really good either way. If you are looking for a really good Asian meal, start here. I'd be surprised if you went away disappointed.

I adore these stuffed chicken wings & egg rolls. This is a shining jewel and toe dip into the water that is Hmong cuisine. I hope they expand to other delicious entrees & appetizers they think could equally be as popular. Appleton needs the diversity and variety on the overall palette. I think with just a few adventurous cuisine explorers more people would be raving to eat and try Hmong food.

Great stuffed chicken wings but the meat in the pho seems very low quality. A little disappointing but overall a nice stop

I am a first timer to Basil Cafe and wanted to share my experience. I moved here from the Bay Area…read moreand I love any type of Asian food. All my local friends recommended that I try Basil Cafe. And I did and it was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had in 40 years. I asked a friend if she had tried this cafe and she hadn't. FYI, I called around 7:15 prior to our arrival and asked what time they closed. He said come now since the kitchen closes at 8 and all orders have to be in before then. It was a Friday night, we arrived at the restaurant and were sat immediately. At 7:20ish the restaurant was still busy which we thought was a good sign. Our server greeted us with the menus and walked away. I didn't think anything of it until she returned to take our order. The initial impression was EXTREMELY uninviting and we should have left at that point. Her first words, "you know we close at 8" which we knew and were trying to hurry to be respectful of the chefs. We immediately ordered which was approximately 5 minutes after being sat. She asked if we wanted our food mild or spicy and then walked away. She did bring us water but never refilled until we were almost done with our meals. She even spilled water as she was pouring and not once to she say sorry or clean it up. Our food was delivered promptly by another server who at least had a smile. As we unfolded our napkins to eat, our server dropped the check and requested to flip it over when ready to pay. My guest looked at me in amazement and stated, "Wow we haven't even taken a bite." As we ate our meals, not once did she approach us to ask if we needed anything else or how the food was. I watched her interact with another table and she seemed to attend to their requests. I was in disbelief by the way she handled herself as a server. I just kept thinking, wow I'm actually paying money for this. We were never rude and remained polite even though her service was HORRIBLE. My guest looked at me and said, "I have lived her all my life and have never had this kind of experience at a restaurant." I was so disappointed about my choice of restaurant that I did not even finish my meal. I took maybe 2 bites and was done. Being that I barely touched my meal, most waitress would have asked if it was ok but not our server. "You want that boxed?" I was like "Yes Please" while thinking "hell yes so I can get out of here." We left within 40 minutes of our arrival so the kitchen had barely rung the closing bell. As soon as I got in my car, I immediately texted my friend who raved about your restaurant and advised "F that place, never again, I have never been treated so badly by a server." I did check the restaurant reviews after this and it spoke of the atmosphere, the friendly staff, the food, and the drinks. Well I wish I could have experienced that but no! I contemplated writing this review since it usually goes nowhere so I spoked to my friends who have visited your establishment and those who have not. The friends who have visited were very disappointed and others stated, "they would not be dining there". They all came to the same conclusion to share so if anyone is trying to figure out whether Panda Express or Basil Cafe, the Panda would be my first choice after this. If I could give you a ZERO star I would but 1 star it is since that is my only option. I will say the food was good so thanks to the chef. But I rather dine at a restaurant with crappy food with an exceptional server than the opposite. I did give her a tip even though she did not deserve it. Hopefully she shares her tips with the chef since they did all the work.

To the left of the front entrance is the dining area that has about 15 tables. There was a person cleaning the tables when we walked in and was being very thorough. Each table has about 10 condiments on it (fish sauce, soy sauce, chili crisp, etc.) We opted for take out and it took about 15 minutes for our order. Service: Friendly and explained the menu and ordering process well. Food: Holy crap. I am so mad I didn't come here sooner. The food is phenomenal. I can't wait to come back and try more menu items. We ordered the pork egg rolls (super crispy outside, not greasy, and the filling was really flavorful and well balanced), crab rangoons (super crispy wonton, filling was packed with flavor), and the fresh spring rolls, hands down these have to be my favorite spring rolls around, the only thing I'd change is putting crushed peanuts in the dipping sauce for them. They do such a great job balancing the ingredients on their dishes. I'm so excited to come back and try more items off the menu!

I follow their page on Facebook, which they update daily with the specials they are offering that day, so I saw they were offering vegan yellow curry. I was really looking forward to trying it. When we ordered, they told me that they ran out of rice so the curry wasn't available. I was really disappointed at that point and almost decided not to order anything at all. In the end, my boyfriend and I both ended up ordering the banhnini, a bahn mi panini. Both of our sandwiches came with chips as part of the meal. The bahnini was overall was very tasty. It had a nice mix of fresh pickled veggies and fresh cilantro on it, which helped cut through heavy meat and cheese on the sandwich. The only thing I didn't like about the sandwich was how spicy it was due to the slices of jalapeños (with seeds!) that were added to the sandwich. It's important to note that I am a bit sensitive to spice so I had to pull the slices of pepper off to make the sandwich edible. My boyfriend, however, enjoys spicy food and found the peppers to be a nice addition. The sandwich also had a good sauce on it that added good flavor as well. Our food came out within 10 mins of ordering and was hot. There were not many seats available in the area around the restaurant but that is understandable as it is more of a take away/ to-go place. Our overall experience was positive. The staff was friendly. The food was fresh, tasty, and fast. The reason for 3 stars was for lack of rice for the curry. I have never been to an Asian restaurant that runs out of rice! We will go back in the future to give them another chance.
