This fun tiki bar restaurant is located in an rather drab looking part of Hamilton. If you didn't see the gaggle of people waiting for their take out orders you probably would not even realize it's there. Upon walking in you are greeted with warmth and a heavy tiki bar theme which extends from the restaurant to the lobby and even the bathrooms! There are many photos of celebrities eating pizza scattering the walls. I should mention you do need a reservation ahead of time and there is a deposit which you will lose if you don't show up. You can reserve online up to one month in advance. Most common table sizes are two or four. Now that you have been warned, let me continue to the good stuff! Upon being seated, you will be ushered to use the QR code to order. Order your pizza first as it takes 20 min to cook. I recommend allocating two slices per person. Small is four slices and large is 8. You can then order any appetizers or drinks as you wish. My order: Chai-buprofin - this drink is served on fire. It's a sweet mix of chai, coconut and rum, sending you away to the Carribean for the duration of the beverage. Pile on Pepperoni Large - sweet, savory, thick, juicy. i finally was able to catch MaiPai with two bar seats open for my boyfriend and i; we seized our opportunity given how much people rave about the food and atmosphere. to be frank, it was very good. the service was quick, attentive, and excellent. the food and drinks were great quality, and the experience was welcoming and personalized despite us being walk-ins and sat at the edge of the bar. the vibes were great; the music and decorations and lights were just as fantastic as the photos online would suggest. the bathroom is located in the equally well-decorated basement, down the stairs to the side of the front lobby. the ladies room was supremely clean and well-stocked. after a very poor first impression of weeks of unanswered phone calls, the broken website/inability to book reservations even weeks in advance as recommended, and multiple failed attempts to get two feet in the door, i will say i was ultimately blown away by the food, service, and experience. i still stand by my initial frustrations in the difficulty of coming in at all, as well as the hours being questionable and indeed unwelcoming, and the complications presented by a lack of solution to the parking issue. however i would still consider coming back. big redemption, happy i went. read more

It's a tiki-bar-style pizzeria serving Detroit-style pies, and honestly, you could get lost just soaking in the decor--it's fun, over-the-top, and sets the tone before the food even hits the table. Every pizza we tried was fantastic. Shawn's Tangy BBQ brought serious flavor with its Carolina gold, mustard-based BBQ sauce. Our favorite of the night was the Do You Wanna--a killer combo of fig jam, creamy ricotta, and spicy 'nduja sausage that just works. The Secret Pickle pizza was another surprise hit, loaded with bacon, dill pickles, and a garlicky sauce that somehow balances perfectly. We also tried both pepperoni options--the Basic and the Pepperoni Pile On--and they absolutely delivered, especially if you're a classic pepperoni fan. We went to Maipai for dinner on a Saturday. I recommend booking reservations in advance as they get super busy. We called to change our 7:30 reservation but they had no other availability. The outside of the restaurant is very unassuming, but when you step inside it is a tiki bar! I also loved the randomness of the decorations. They serve Detroit style pizza. Right when we walked in, we were blown away by the atmosphere and setup. We love the tiki bar theme, especially mixed with the current Halloween décor -- there's so much to look at and the vibe is just awesome. The staff are lovely and our server was excellent! MaiPai is known for its Detroit-style pizzas, and wow... they are absolutely incredible. It's easy to see why this place books up FAST -- we reserved a couple weeks in advance and still snagged the last 9:00 PM spot. Totally worth it though! The tiki cocktails are fantastic and served in fun themed mugs. I really enjoyed my Blue Hawaii (mixed perfectly), while my wife's Painkiller was good but very strong. The Hurricane was another hit! For an appetizer, we ordered the Parm Fries -- and they were so worth it. Crispy waffle fries drenched in gochujang butter (sweet with just a tiny kick), topped with fluffy Parmesan and fresh green onions. Delicious! For mains, I went with the Pepperoni Pile Up, easily one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, loaded with incredible sauce, stacked cheese, fluffy ricotta, and the star of the show -- scotch bonnet honey drizzled on top. My wife ordered the Secret Pickle Pizza, which was cheesy, garlicky, and super dill-y -- so unique and so good! We ordered larges so we'd have leftovers, and even though it's 8 slices, they're hearty enough that we only managed about two and a half each before calling it. The best restaurant I went to in Hamilton Ontario. It is very tough to get a reservation. I was a walk-in on a Saturday evening shortly after they opened for the day. At first it looked like I was going to have to wait 30 minutes. But after the host made a few phone calls, me and my party of two seated with just a five minute wait. Although we seated at the bar, we still had great service. Orders were taken promptly. There are a few shareable cocktails on a menu, one of which we ordered and was delicious; just enough to get you buzzed per person. Two people can definitely share one order of pizza but since we are feeling gluttonous , we each got a order of pizza. I absolutely love the pepperoni pizza they have. I'm a huge fan of Chicago deep dish and Detroit style is a close second so I was ecstatic about how delicious this piece was. Was not expecting to eat pizza while visiting Hamilton but I did and it was fantastic. Highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time if you can. If not, just be prepared to wait for a long time. Luckily, they can take your number and then call you when it's your time to be seated so you don't have to just stand around. Legit tiki bar I've wanted to try to so long. Check their hours and social updates for the most up-to-date hours/events/happenings. I'm driving through Hamilton occasionally, but this trip was specifically for Maipai. I'm a tiki nerd and love the Detroit pizza spin. They also can vegan it. So this special place checked all the boxes for me. Parking is plentiful and on the street. It's metered. We didn't have reservations yet arrived shortly after they opened. Host was nice and sat us at the bar. Bartenders were friendly and skilled. Drink menu has classics and some new riffs. Food menu has Detroit style pizza (amongst many other things, but that's what I came for). Drinks were solid. Just a one and done. Zombie for my guest and Chai Tai for me. Food was hot and flavorful. Yum! A note for mug collectors: nothing branded in the way of mugs (nor apparel I didn't think). They did have a mai tai glass for purchase. I have the memories and didn't need merch. Hidden gem in Hamilton. Such a fun, cute tiki bar with great cocktails and food. We ordered the painkiller, mai tai and orbiting the 6th planet. We enjoyed all of our drinks but orbiting the 6th planet especially stood out. It had gin & passion fruit in it. For pizza we tried the don't you wanna and the spicy pepperoni - both were delicious. The crust was crispy and the middle still had the fluffiness. I like that they weren't huge slices given its Detroit style pizza. It was the perfect size where you could still eat 2-3 slices and not get too stuffed. We also really enjoyed our server, Andrea. She had extensive knowledge on the menu and gave her honest opinions which we really appreciated. Super friendly person and all around amazing employee and human! What a fun addition to Hamilton! We had the pleasure of dining indoors last night for my birthday with some friends. I'm grateful we were able to get a same day reservation online. I had heard at one point there was a 2 week wait for reservations. Super cool, funky and clean interior. Very nice service. Menus were available through a QR code. And the food and drinks were all five stars amazing!! The Mai Thai drinks are served with a flaming sugar cube. We tried 2 kinds of wings and ordered 2 small pizzas and a salad for 4 people. I love this place! My family and I have gone a number of times now and the food is always on point! So much so that I asked if we could go here for my birthday dinner. The decor is so much fun, the menu has some quirky notes, and the pizza and wings are delicious!! Service is always friendly and knowledgeable though it can take a while for your fresh pizzas to arrive - so be prepared to wait. That said, it's worth it! I feel I must preface this review by saying that I have been a huge Tiki fan for the past 20+ years, so I'm always glad to see a new Tiki bar near me. And maybe it's because I've been to so many Tiki bars that I have high expectations. The main reason I go to a Tiki bar is not for the food because it often is pretty bad, and not being a fan of pizza, there were very few other options for me to use to soak up the booze... if there was any in the cocktails. My partner and I ordered 4 drinks total, all different ones, and all of them were so watered down. For the price you pay for a Tiki cocktail anywhere, give me some booze, man! We were really disappointed with the cocktails. The bartender was very grumpy so that didn't help. If he was having a bad day, he shouldn't take it out on all of his customers. The pizza is Detroit style which is perfect for Hamilton and very tasty and the wings are similarly mouth watering. The cocktails are tiki or tiki inspired and well constructed with a traditional style but some tongue in cheek twists. Traditional Mai Tai with tasty rums and a traditional garnish with a twist.
