I've been here a few times with friends and I'm always torn at the end. The food is very good and I've enjoyed every thing I've tried but it is slightly overpriced especially when taking into consideration the service. The servers are kind and I can see they sometimes try their best but it is simply not good, the food takes forever to come out and the servers do not ever come back to check on us but we will still be coming back. Wish I could give it a lower score to balance out this 4.5 Yelp score. We ordered the Braised Ribs Nachos, fried pickles, onion rings, and bucket of fried chicken with biscuits. Despite the great photos of all the food, the food is very bland. Biscuits are very dry. Nachos, onion rings, and fried pickles were okay, but just tasted like it was from a chain restaurant. The three times I've been to this restaurant have been so tragic that it's time I finally write this review. Yesterday's visit started off great- our hostess was a doll and treated us all so kindly as we walked into the theatre and took our seats. She noticed that one side of the restaurant was packed and made sure to put us on the other side where we would be more comfortable which was really kind. Shoutout to the hostess whose name I didn't get but know that the following is not directed toward you! For a restaurant that barely opened, you would think that the customer service and quality of food would be at its peck. Unfortunately here at Mainzer- it's giving the exact opposite. The customer service is terrible- from the waitress to the manager, it was a mess. We had complaints about our food which the waitress went to address with the manager, and came back to talk to us and let us know what was said. Instead of the manager taking two minutes out of her day to address us directly, she decided to avoid us and even went out of her way to ask every other table how their meal was doing and took her sweet time to come and ask us how our experience was. The situation could have been handled in a completely different way if the manager simply came up to talk to us at the exact moment we were having an issue with our food. This is a food service- there are ways to approach it. I do not intend on coming to this restaurant again- and don't recommend anyone else to either. Yummy ranch dressing for fries (extra-ask for it) and the blue cheese slaw on the sandwich added a specialness. Chicken was juicy and NOT dry. I had it to go but another time I'll try dining in. Place was clean and happening for Merced. Host however can work on being more welcoming (no smiles, no welcome chit chat, looked me up and down), but I'm not knocking off stars for that. Driving back to the Bay Area from Yosemite and decided to go out of our way a bit to try something other than fast food. Dang am I ever glad we did. This place was awesome. Absolutely love the vibe. Wish i didn't have to drive so I could have helped myself the self serve beer station. Definitely suggest making Merced more than a pee break going to and from Yosemite and checking out this joint. read more

The generous and tasty helpings filled two very hungry people. We had shrimp in a blanket appetizer, and pineapple fried rice and a mixed vegetable with sticky rice for entrees. All three were delicious. Everything was superb. Friendly service plus reasonable prices for what we had. A definite winner! read more

Came on the weekend of the county fair which might have led to the low number of staff available and the longer wait, but there were games available on the side to keep us well entertained. When our table was ready, our host was very apologetic for the wait (wasn't even long!) We ordered a half fried chicken, roasted brussels sprouts, and a salad and they were all amazing. The valley chicken was well seasoned and good spice, the maple syrup dressing for the brussels sprouts were very well flavoured, and the salad was a really big portion. This review is for brunch. The final review is weighted more towards the food. Food: French Scramble (3/5) - the scrambled eggs were over cooked, but advertised as soft scramble. The potatoes were cut into really small cubes and tasted like French fries, but were advertised as being roasted. I requested no bacon. The Pancake (4/5) - 1 extremely large pancake that is so fluffy and good. The topping was good. They don't serve maple syrup with this or butter. I recommend getting syrup. To the restaurant, I recommend adding butter for your topping. Service (3/5) - In general, service could use some work. Be aware that they add their own gratuity. I'm not sure if it's because we were a party of 7 or if this is normal practice. The server was really friendly and did a great job. The food runners - not very friendly. I asked for no bacon in my dish since I'm vegetarian and it very clearly came out with a couple pieces of cut up bacon. They argued saying there's no bacon... anyone who can see, can see the bacon so don't try to be combative with someone who very nicely tells you there's bacon! Ambiance (4/5) - It's a really cute place and I love how the themes and vibes of the old theater are still present. I have done lunch here several times before and after and I think I prefer the old menu. Was excited for the change and I have tried five different lunches and still miss the old menu. Fantastic brunch menu and mimosas. We were able to sit a party of 17 with a reservation with no issues. The staff was excellent.

This is a great place to hangout. The three of us came on a Saturday night and we were seated immediately. There was a good amount of people in the tap room and seated outside, we got seating in the theare room which only had two other parties. The giants game playing on the theater screen.Food was tasty, I got the braised beef nacho and my friends got burgers. The beer tap is cool. You can pay by the ounce and try their large selection of beers.Would definitely come here again and bring my friends from out of town. read more

I've been here a few times including when they first opened and it always has been a pretty solid spot, except for today. I decided to order the fish and chips. Well let's say my culinary experience went downhill as soon as I received my order and asked for tartar sauce. I was told they do not have tartar sauce, the chef decided on some yellow sauce instead. Our server offered to bring a few other sauces and let me say this here and now...if you are putting fish and chips on the menu do not mess with the tartar sauce lemon combo. Sandwich had a nice amount of spice, salad was greens with a couple sliced cherry tomatoes, but the spicy dressing was delicious. Tried 2 of the mixed drinks, neither was particularly well balanced. For $14, I'd expect better than what I could make at home. Didn't appear to have a bartender as the server made the drinks, so perhaps not too surprising that they didn't turn out great. First time coming here. Good experience from the moment I walked in. Greeted by Tabitha the manager who was really helpful and attentive. Everything was exceptionally clean and staff was always sanitizing . The food was amazing . Deluxe accommodations with added smoked bacon and pollo carne tacos sure came through.
