I was so happy to see a place like the Mainzer invest in Merced, inside and out was remodeled with great thought and attention to the local history. We got a mix of brunch and lunch options- each dish had its own special touch. As a family who's been in small business in Merced for over 30 years. We know how hard it is to run a an affordable, accommodating, and successful business. I really hope the Mainzer is embraced by our community. Staff was great- we had two kids with us- they were so accommodating. Especially the food and bev manager Jerry. Can't wait to go back and bring friends. Inquiry to waitress yielded explanation that it is listed on the bottom of the menu. Asked to see the menu again. The first time we went it was amazing and food was great. Staff were friendly and they have the games by the front that you can play if you end up having to wait. Overall a friendly place. The food was great the first time we went but every time we went after the burgers just got drier and drier. It feels like they are putting less effort into their food now. We gave the Mainzer another chance because we love supporting our local restaurants. The food this time was excellent. The brioche brûlée French toast was amazing. It was moist and had a crunch to it. I feel as if each toast was carefully stacked and then torched to achieve the sweet crunch. The service was great. The upgrades were done with taste. I used to come here as a teen for the concerts and the place was rundown back in the day. The food is good, I just wish there was more variety. I'm guessing the lack of choices is so that what is provided is done with high quality. The staff was friendly and I love how you can serve your own beer. Has like a Bay Area feel to it and food is amazing especially the garlic onion rings appetizer they are to die for!! They have great breakfast and simple lunch menu but Gourmet on the foods they do serve. The workers there are super nice and polite all greet you with a huge smile! Great bar also if you and a friend would like to go for a drink to catch up. This place is a must try for breakfast or lunch and the hamburgers are also amazing. The parking can be a bit challenging it's on Main Street so prepare to walk a little but definitely worth it!!! read more

Service has never been anything but excellent, the concept is wonderful and the building is beautiful. Sadly, the Mainzer has not figured out how to make meals that patrons expect. I ordered a BLT Sandwich (which the menu listed as an entree, I've included a picture with a lighter for scale) with side of broccoli cheddar soup. What I received was a small cup of soup, and an even smaller sandwich, that would be generous to even call a slider. The sourdough bread was barely as big as a hawaiian roll. I think the management would be hard pressed to call it an entire entree. My bill was over 20 dollars for this sandwich and a soup. I live nearby and I will not return even for an event (there is FAR better trivia in town anyways). Like I said, if all you want is a beer and great service, it couldn't possibly go wrong here.... My time in the Mainzer was pleasant. The food was fine - I didn't expect much when looking at the menu, but I still didn't feel satisfied with my meal. But the drinks! The drinks became the stars of the show. The classic margarita went down smoothly, but crept up over the course of the meal. The Bloody Mary, however, was an entity unto itself. Never before has such a combination of hot sauce, jalapeño, and spices been tossed into tomato juice and vodka in a more perfect blend. I wish I could have the recipe for the mix! The bartender (Haven) did a fantastic job mixing drinks and being a personable face of the establishment. I ordered the fish n chips. The fish was nice and juicy and the fried breading was delightfully crispy! But it had no flavor. The tartar sauce was plain, but the vinegar was incredible. I have never tasted anything quite like it; it was something between sesame and peanut sauce, and classic malt vinegar. This kind of illustrates my experience of the evening: the "main event" (the entree) was meh, but the "side shows" were excellent. I also had the onion tower and didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised by the jalapeño aioli. Wow, it tasted like the essence of fresh jalapeño! The onion rings themselves were (again) plain, but they were fried perfectly. The lights in the dining area are way too bright - I felt like I was in a cafeteria. The waitstaff were top notch, and I can't recommend Haven enough. All in all it was a pleasant evening, but unfortunately that was only possible because of the transcendental drinks they were serving. read more

Great place! Good food and ambience. Glad Merced is getting some better dining options. I had the breakfast burger, very tasty. Bun was excellent. My date had the tacos. Filling was good but completely fell apart once he tried to pick it up. Tortillas needed to be cooked longer or something because they just fell apart before he could even get them in his mouth. Made a reservation for a high top thinking we could sit near/at the bar area to kick off a fun birthday weekend. Upfront was told nothing was available inside even though everything was almost empty. Turns out a large water polo group came in 30 minutes later. Sat outside on the sidewalk seating when it was 90 degrees. Luckily we got a table in the shade because other groups had to keep moving their own umbrellas. It was hot and uncomfortable. Definitely a "must try" in Merced! I dined at Mainzer for Saturday brunch. Staff, ambiance, and food - all excellent! From the time you step in for their order first service model, you are greeted by the super friendly, helpful, and safety conscience staff. The team was attentive throughout the meal, and very pleasant in conversation as well. We decided to sit indoors; the ambiance was serene, perfect for a mid-morning Saturday brunch. I ordered the Bruleed Brioche French Toast which was exceptional! Soft, fluffy texture with just the right amount of crunch from the caramelized sugar. The brown buttered pineapple really brought all the flavors together to make you savor each bite. Perfect portion size, and not too heavy! I also ordered a side of bacon (cooked to perfection) which balanced the sweetness from the French toast. I had the Strawberry-Cucumber Collins to drink, which was a great alternative to your typical brunch mimosa. The Collins was light and refreshing; not overly sweet or sugary. It's exactly what you want on a warm and sunny summer (or fall) day. I could easily sip on a few of those all day. Overall fantastic experience. Next time, I plan to explore their dinner menu. My Cobb salad w/ chicken was fresh, had good presentation and the fresh dill added a nice flavor. The roasted Brussels sprouts had great flavor but could have been cooked a little longer.
