My wife, my wife's aunt, and I went to Mainzer for an early dinner on a Saturday night. We did not have a reservation and were seated right away. There were a couple of groups or parties at some of the tables and a few other patrons. The table we were at was next to this bench seats along the wall with a couple of chairs on the opposite side. I ordered a club sandwich and my wife had a salad. The food was okay. What we enjoyed most was a large cookie with ice cream and bananas on top served hot in a small cast iron skillet. read more

First time dining here and I'm very impressed! The food, service, and atmosphere was top notch. Kate, who waited on me was very polite and professional. I ordered the Burger Royale with cheese. I requested it medium rare to retain the juicy flavors. This burger was delicious and came with fries that were tasty. For dessert I couldn't resist the Mainzookie! It's just ok. It was my first time, went during lunch hour. Not a lot of variety in their menu. Food is overpriced. Drink were good though. Service was great. It's definitely an evening hang out spot for drinks an appetizers. Now that Merced is growing I think they're are better spots though. read more

This is the second time I have visited this establishment. I ordered fish tacos and my daughter and friend both ordered burgers. The restaurant was about half full on a Friday evening. The dining area is clean and well maintained. There was a free show last night (band) and even though they were playing in another area separate from the dining area, it wasn't terribly loud. Service was lacking. I had never used the beer wall and the server said she would return to provide instruction but she never did. I snagged one of two giggling employees who were standing near the beer wall to give me a quick tutorial. Beer was very good and there was a nice selection. We ordered an appetizer (chips and guacamole) and it came out with the meal. We had no silverware, no napkins, no condiments offered with the fries. I kind of felt like we were slightly rouge, wandering around picking ketchup off of a vacant table, stealing some napkins from the server station....but came up dry on silverware. I snagged a very helpful man who appeared to be the manager (he was definitely working harder than anyone else) and asked him for some silverware. My daughter said the burger was average (she wouldn't order it again). There is a roulade sauce that she felt did not taste great. I tasted her fries they were pretty amazing. The blue chips were excellent and the guacamole was pretty tasty. The tacos.... I cannot decide which one I liked best. They were all three equally delicious. The ingredients were fresh and the tacos had a unique flavor that was complimentary to each protein/vegetable. I definitely will return as there are few offerings in Merced with the ambiance and varieties of foods (there is something for everyone) but you've got to better train your servers. I really wanted to like a new establishment in Merced, but in the short while it's been open, the Mainzer has already gone downhill. The food is either incredibly bland or over seasoned. I ordered the beer battered cod sandwich and it was super bland. My children ordered the kids chicken strips and they were SO over seasoned with garlic salt that they were inedible. Another thing that lends to the 2 star rating is that adults can't order off of the children's menu. The children's menu meals aren't cheap, so I'm not sure what the issue with adults ordering one would be...and not all adults eat adult portions or adult meal options. Lastly, our waitress took her lunch break in the middle of our dining experience and when she came back she reeked of marijuana, which is so unprofessional and off putting. read more

Really?! We went to SEVEN RESTAURANTS that all had incorrect times posted at EIGHT PM ON TUES, and all were closed. We went to Mainzer because of the good reviews and because it was ACTUALLY OPEN, and because their menu is mostly burgers and salads and I wasn't feeling that at 9 o'clock at night, I asked if I could order chicken strips off the children's menu and was condescendingly told "no" in a really rude, snarky voice three times in a row. Like the manager said, "Uh, NO. No. No". It's not like the children's menu is cheaper or anything so it wasn't like we were trying to get a deal, we just didn't want something heavy at night. A nice, modern ambience with a pour your own beer-charged by the ounce. We had the short rib nachos and the short rib flatbread pizza. The smoked short rib meat was excellent. The manager came to our table and asked for our feedback and any constructive criticism. I advised that they improve their instructions on the "pour your own beer" process. The food was excellent but I thought for the price there should have been more short rib meat on the nachos. They make their own cheese for the nachos and everything is homemade so be prepared for a wait once you order. We will definitely be back to try it again. read more

Do not recommend for brunch on the weekend. Food selection is limited and weird. We will try for later in the day at some point. Our server was great and skillet was good. The biscuits and gravy aren't anything like normal. The put us at a high top table with 80+ year old mother-in-law. It was very uncomfortable, my back hurt. The beer just foams and you get charged for it! It's a great idea in the old theater and pour your own but needs refinement. Bad experience on Mother's Day. read more

Stopped in after a long drive up from SoCal. Having grown up in Merced, I love seeing all the new businesses when I come back to visit. Kayleigh was our server and she was helpful with the questions we asked and came to check on us. Food wise, if you like blue cheese you'll enjoy their blue cheese burger. My husband said it was one of the best burgers he'd had in awhile. I ordered a side of chips and guacamole which was good but nothing crazy. We also tried their on tap wall which was a fun way to try some new beers. I'd definitely come back, I think the menu could be expanded a bit but it's a really cute spot that we enjoyed. read more

Merced is so lucky to have a movie theater restaurant. We stopped here on our way home from Southern California. We ordered the Ruben sandwich and subbed the onion rings. My friends and I come here for brunch often, unfortunately the new menu is a big disappointment. The serving size for some items are so small and don't feel like a complete meal, they sure like to jazz up the description of the dish but when you receive them it's a big let down. Wow, just blown away by this place! Everything was beyond expectation, especially for Merced. Menus and ordering inside was super efficient, drinks arrived just minutes after we sat down... full bar... drinks were awesome. Food came out shortly after. Seating outside was plentiful and a welcoming atmosphere with speakers, music and shade umbrellas. The roasted brussels sprouts with smoked bacon and maple syrup was one of the best brussels sprout dishes I've ever had, crispy, smokey, sweet and salty. Definitely a dish to order! We also had the fried chicken bucket, wow. Crispy, flavorful, with fresh fried thyme and pickles and buttermilk biscuits. Really can't say enough good stuff about this place. Merced is seriously lacking good food spots but this place is another level. Pretty excited to return. The menu is extensive with a lot of other plates that sound pretty tasty. Really excited about this place and for more places like this in Merced. Looking forward to my return it was so good! First the speed of food coming out was awesome - so if hungry or on a schedule you can have a good meal. Second and most important the food is amazing. I was in town for 5 days so had the chance to try a great deal of the items. Almost everything is house made - down to the ridiculously good tortillas. I really appreciate The Mainzer and what it provides to Merced. The events I have been to are really great. I especially enjoy going to movies here. They have couches and recliner chairs, super comfy seating. Its like home furniture in a movie theatre. They have free fun games downstairs like Foosball, Skee-ball. I really enjoy The Mainzer except Unfortunately the food is not good. I have eaten there probably 5 times and I can't find anything I like. They seem to over complicate the dishes for fancy sake and it's really not great. The food is somewhere between ok and not good. If you like beer, this is the place. Lots of beer choices. read more

Came to enjoy Gypsy Dreams preform on a Friday night. The set up was perfect for an event w/ enough seating, however I didn't notice an area for a disabled person w/ a wheelchair if they didn't reserve a table (tickets were sold as reserved tables $60/$80 or bar sitting/standing $20). I could be wrong but I didn't see an area for it. The event had everything accessible for guests to enjoy while watching the show (craft beer, cocktails & food) unless you needed the use the restroom, which was outside the doors & they were very clean.
