When I sought estimates for this carpet replacement project on Yelp, Hardwood Plus was the first and fastest reply. Erik showed up on time and quickly gathered the information he needed while explaining some of the things that could go wrong, like leveling issues or finding something unexpected beneath the old carpet. He promptly provided a quote, and kept in touch via text message (a huge perk for phone call-averse people like me). When we visited the showroom to pick out the carpet and sheet vinyl pattern, it came as a relief that Erik was not interested in upselling - he'd present options, explain the pros and cons of each, and trusted us to make our own decisions. The first issue occurred on the installation day, when Erik messaged me to say the carpet had not arrived yet. He was apologetic and explained what had happened, but we would still have to wait another week for it to arrive. The second issue occurred after his team removed my old carpet: they found the tiles underneath contained asbestos and needed to be sealed, for an additional cost. This added another day to the sheet vinyl install, but this was a possibility he had mentioned early on. The team also accidentally broke my dryer vent, but Erik agreed to fix it with absolutely no fuss. Finally, there were a few little bubbles in the sheet vinyl I had to push out. But now that it's all done, I am absolutely over the moon with how great my new floor looks, and how delightfully plush the new carpet on the stairs and guest room is! Letty was very responsive over email and was able to come quickly to provide an estimate. Their pricing was also competitive (they did suggest a different carpet brand than all the other estimates but I am very happy with this carpet). The install was top notch. I was really impressed with the care that they took not to damage anything in the house as they removed the old carpet and installed new carpet. They didn't scuff any walls, baseboard or railings. (I've never seen such a good job before!) Letty did mention that I chose a soft back carpet and that makes a big difference in reducing any damage. The quality of the install was also great. All of the seams are well blended and don't show. There aren't any defects and it looks great! I ended up going with a plush carpet and 10lb underlay and it was such an upgrade over the carpet that was in the house. (And the previous owner claimed they went with a mid-level carpet.)

The store had a good selection of flooring to choose from and Francisco and his son Frank were knowledgeable about what flooring would be best. The estimate to take out the flooring and install the new one was fair and honest. (I got another estimate that was thousands of dollars more.) The floor is in and it's absolutely beautiful. We have had such a horrible experience with the floor store and are still suffering 8 months later…read more We hired the floor store based on good reviews on the island, only to find out later the store was purchased by Frank J's Carpet Installation (based in Renton) and all the good reviews were for the previous ownership. We contacted Frank to see if they could install bamboo hardwoods we had purchased elsewhere, and Frank came over to give a quote. He said they had a lot of experience with this type of flooring (click & lock) and even declined when I offered the installation guide that came with the materials. Flash forward to a few days later, we come home after a day of work to find they did a truly horrific job. We had to walk around the house marking things with blue tape where they needed to re-do pieces that looked awful, cuts that didn't fit, etc. We ended up firing them before they could do the stairs because I was confident they would not be able to handle the precision cuts. Their price was the most expensive of any quote we got, but Frank reassured me they are island-based and take care of islanders. What a joke! When they finished, you could walk around and feel that the floor was completely uneven and there was give in certain spots. During out initial consultation Frank had assured me they would level the floor where needed, including using leveling compound, and told me we didn't have to remove the subfloor. He clearly had no idea what he was talking about, because 8 months later I have floor buckling, sticking out, and cracking. It is like walking through land-mines in our house, and every day I am scared a new piece will buckle, stick up, and trip me while I am carrying my baby. Twice now Frank has sent one of his sub-contractors to fix the floor, and within a few days the problem has returned. The only real solution would be for someone to pull up the entire floor and start over again. Frank demanded we pay full price, even when it was clearly a hack job, and showed up at my house demanding payment. Eventually my husband had to contact him to get some of the money refunded because it was clear we are going to have to get a real professional in here to fix things, and he refunded a few hundred dollars. He even told my husband "it's not my guys' fault, he doesn't know how to work with hardwoods." after he had reassured me his employee had experience working with our product. I am disgusted at the way this business is run, and the true hazard they have left us to deal with. I would strongly advise anyone looking at using their services to look elsewhere.
