Totally nice employees. Very professional and great to chat with. Really enjoyed my visit there & thanks for hooking me up with the 23-window VW bus skate boards. The price was fair and very reasonable. Good quality product. ~Jennifer Mother Lode VW Club read more

Got a jacket as a Christmas present and it wasn't my style ofcourse since it was a gift I don't have the receipt, got told they need a receipt for me to get any type of store credit pretty terrible customer service if you ask me, jacket still had mainland tag on it but I got treated as if I stole it. I use to shop here a lot now I'll take my money else where. read more

Went in to buy a wallet. I gave them my $100 bill from Bank of America. They put it in their drawer and said it was counterfeit. They had NO pen to check if it is. How the fuck are they allowed to just take someone's cash using their plain eyes that it is counterfeit? Customers beware! read more

So this shop is basically one of the only skate shops that's still left in the Modesto area, unfortunately they do not carry the products build your own long board, which is understandable it's not as popular as skateboarding. Well I decided to shop online for my long board parts and I call Mainland up and ask them what their fee would be to assemble my board for me, the girl on the phone tells me unless I purchased my components from their store they will not assemble it for me, so of course I ask her do you even sell long board components? She says no.... I'm completely baffled that they will only assemble a long board if I buy the parts from them especially seeing as they do not sell any of the parts... Skating is usually a very tight knit community and everyone is usually more than happy to lend a helping hand, being that mainland is one of the only skate shops left I was very shocked to see that they're not willing to help out local skaters...especially ones that offer to pay for their services. It just seems like this place is a trap for parents to over spend on skateboard equipment for their children, Judging by another review on this yelp that clearly states a guy came in and spend 130+ dollars on a skateboard for a 12 year old girl... I think they need a new business model, get some real skaters in this shop and start being a better part of the community as opposed to some snobby mall shop that refuses to help people who have no where else to go... on the light side of things I called Zumiez and they were more than willing to help me assemble my board. i will never set foot in Mainland again although this used to be one of my favorite stores to visit. read more

This store is trash they have no customer service whatsoever! Please shop else where and spend your money online or otherwise. My experience was horrible. Manager Armondo Was called regarding a customer service Issue and was not helpful at all. He sounded like the discount was gonna fold the company. She even explained she remembered the discount I was told by store employee days ago they offer military discount. Only to return today and now they don't offer it. My main issue is I drove a distance to come here and I should have been told over the phone because the same sales associate helped me before and knew what I was returning and had my items on hold. All they did was apologize as if that's considered customer service. Someone made a mistake so it should be honored to the customer. Company obviously lack managerial skills and I'm disappointed and frustrated. If this is how they do business my advice is to Never shop here! chose elsewhere to spend your money! They are taxing ppl anyways $$$ read more

Located in the Vintage Fair Mall here in Modesto, the place carries alot of cool shades and pretty much everything you could want for your skating needs. The staff is real friendly and helpful too. Although the sneaker collection is somewhat limited, every now and then you may stumble on something you like. The other cool thing about this place is that their shoes are competitively priced due to the fact that the people in this town are never aware of the hype that comes along with certain sneakers. + If you are in the area you might want to check the place out. It could be worth your while. The last time I was there, I stumbled upon some Half Cab syndicates that were sold out at all the other shops. RIF in L.A. had one pair left but they were way overpriced at $175!!! Mainland hooked them up for $70 and they explained to me that they don't mark up their shoes according to the hype, for which I am greatful. Crazy huh!?!? In fact, I think RIF still has them up on their website for $175. read more

Horrible customer service. A bunch of little kids with stretched ears.....really?? The merchandise is way overpriced and bad quality. They would not let me exchange a sweater that cost fifty bucks because I no longer had the receipt. It still had the tags and it also had a hole. Fifty bucks down the drain. I will never go there again. I'm an easy goin gal but spend a few minutes with these little kids and their rude attitudes and you will see red. I wanted to grab them by their stretched ears, pull outside and beat the crap out of em!!!! Go to Zumies overpriced as well but they are way nicer!!!!! BTW Gary the "sole proprieter" was not much help either. He actually told me he was busy and hung up on me. read more

This is a nice place, lots of items for the younger crowd. Me, just to old to go for this stuff.

Mainland you evil seller of skate goods! ... Went in for a board for my 8 year old daughter, $136.00 later we leave with a new skateboard and an ecstatic 8 year old. WTF, $136??!!?? Obviously I'm out of the loop on Skate goods, I had no idea how expensive this was going to be. Nonetheless the staff was super helpful and informative, this was her first board and the Mom in me wanted her to be safe. They put the whole thing together, and even consulted her on the layout of the grip tape, for $136 we wanted some of the brand name to show! Definitely will be back for other accessories as needed. read more

Service was a little slow, and I always feel too old to shop here, however their Tom's selection is on point! I was able to find the black wedge Tom's I have wanted, with the smooth front and no blue symbol. read more

Had one of the worst experiences I've had in a long time there yesterday. An I've been shopping at your store since 2004 an have never been treated this way. Came in an was followed throughout the store an watched over as though I was trying to steal. Was constant being bombarded with questions an felt very uncomfortable there at the store. Will not be returning again. #vintagefairnall #modesto #mainlandskateshop read more

Bought a bikini for my girlfriend... It didn't fit. I tried to return with a gift receipt and they wouldn't take it. Told me I had to have have original receipt. Had to make a separate trip across town to get their preferred receipt. Horrible customer service. read more

I used to always come here back in high school to buy Stussy shirts. I remember they used to sell SB Dunks here and Jordans. I recently came here and noticed they sell The Hundreds now. read more

It's kind of an awkward store.. Love the clothes just an awkward vibe- I would prefer Tillys, Pacsun or Zumiez

Unlike the other reviewers on this page I had a horrible experience at this store! The sales clerks are not knowledgable about store policies particularily their return policy. The manager is incredibly rude, unpleasent, and degrading. Basically, I will never shop here again and I am going to tell everyone I know to avoid this store as well. The selection that they carry isn't very good either. Modesto and the surrounding areas have several other surf/skate shops that are more reasonably priced and have much better sales staff that are actually helpful and polite. Make this store your last resort, and if it is your last resort, look online you can probably get a better deal on what you are looking for anyway. read more

Terrible Customer Service and Retail practices. Bought my son clothing for Christmas. He didnt like one of the t shits and wanted to return it for another style. Tags still intact and never even tried on I tried to exchange t shirt. I found in the bag that I grabbed the wrong receipt for the item and brought in another receipt for the sweatshirt instead of the tshirt purchased here. I asked the Manager since we were from out of town and my son was leaving for school the next day if he could make an exception and please exchange it. He told me if I told him the exact date I purchased it he would look up in the computer. I told him the date and he proceeded to look then tells me No there are no transactions that match that amount. I asked him again that there is no dispute this is your merchandise, never worn, not clearanced or ever been on sale please just let us do the exchange (Plus in addition we were purchasing additional merchandise)/ He still said no. I have worked in Retail Management for over 30 years and believe there is always exception to your rules especially in Retail. Afterall the shirt brand new, tags still on it, purchasing additional merchandise But he truly did not even think about that or care. After arriving back home I put the correct receipt in the bag and i will return the next time I am in town and mail the exchanged t shirt to my son. What A hassle. I have never been treated like this at a retail store ever! After this exchange..Mainland has lost a customer.. but I can probalbly assure you that they really don't care. read more

I am a weekly shopper at Mainland Modesto and after reading a couple of these reviews (one in particular Maurice F.'s) I had to write a review. That being said yes, Mainland is one of the few skateboard shops around and quite frankly the associates are 100% precent less down your neck and less pushy about getting you to purchase something than Zumies is(Zumies = Commision), which is why I will never step foot into a Zumiez unless Mainland was absolutely out of what I was needing. I've been skating for 10+ years now and have always had a great experience shopping here. The associates are extremely helpful and have assembled multiple boards for myself (which I will add you get 12% off everything you purchase when you put a complete board together, I think that's coo since it saves a little chunk of change) and yes a few of them have been girls and they did an amazing job on my board, likely and embarrassingly enough better than myself most of the time. They are very down to earth people and seem like they actually care about how they are benefitting you and will go to many lengths to ensure you are satisfied. As for long boarding, like Maurice mentioned, they do not have the decks for longboards, but they do sell everything else..trucks, riser pads hardware and bearings. If you are able to buy let's just say, bearings and bring your board in they will gladly replace them for you, same goes for riser pads or trucks. Im not going to go to Burger King order a burger and then go to McDonalds to ask them to put pickles on it. Did I also mention that the newer Zumies opening up aren't going to be carrying skate goods anymore? Mostly just complete longboards here and there but they are broadening and going to be carrying athletic wear opposed to skate goods. So for a great shopping experience and to be surrounded by people that aren't trying to sell you so they can make a buck visit the Modesto Mainland. They don't just carry skate but clothing such as Pink Dolphin, Diamond, Obey, Connetic, Benny Gold, Visual, Primitive, Akomplice, LRG, Hurley, Brixton, RVCA, TOMS, Nike, Adidas, Converse and so much more! -including baby shoes. Hope this helps anyone in need...have a great day! read more
