Mainely Sitters - Freyja on a walk with Michele

Mainely Sitters

We have used Mainely Sitters services on multiple occasions including all three sitters: Michele,…read moreAna, and Jennifer. They consistently follow through on every promise, even going above and beyond what is expected. Our dog, Daisy, is very attached to us and hates when we leave, but we return to a happy, spoiled dog every single time. We use the dog walking, in-home visits, and pawjama party (overnight) services and have been completely happy with the communication (frequent messages/photos), timeliness, and friendliness. Their extensive training and expertise shows through their depth of compassion and care. On one occasion, due to circumstances out of our control, we had a major change to our arrival date/time. Michele was flexible and pleasant, allowing us to make the necessary changes to return home safely. She brought calm to a very stressful situation. I have always been very choosy about who I leave Daisy with. I prefer professionals who are trained for medical emergencies, encountering a hostile animal, taking respectful care of your home, etc. Never once have I been concerned about using Maine Sitters. When I am away, I do not worry or stress about Daisy or our home. I know they are in good hands with people I trust and that is a gift I do not take lightly. We are so grateful to be in their service area and I recommend their services wholeheartedly with no reservations.

We brought our two dogs here for the first time last weekend as a trial run for our upcoming…read morevacation. We first did a tour of the facilities, and found them to be very clean and well run. When we walked in, there were not dogs barking wildly at one another as we have seen at other kennels. Each kennel has solid sides so they don't feel threatened by other dogs nearby. The dogs have their own run that during the day the door is lifted so they can go outside. We put our dogs together in one kennel and the owner will separate them during feeding time, so that one is not stealing food or causing problems with the other one. A nice touch! The dogs also will not interact with other dogs during their stay, which is good for us, as one of our dogs does not do well with others. Don is the owner and is very nice and soft-spoken. He seems to have a very gentle way about him. On the phone, he may sound a little standoffish, but when you meet him in person, you realize that it is only his soft-spokeness and he is very friendly. My dogs who are normally anxious around new people did not seem to have that reaction with him at all. Prices are extremely reasonable. Bring your own blankets or dog beds as separate ones are not provided. They do offer additional services such as baths for an additional fee during the dog's stay. Our dogs left there calm, and not stressed at all. I feel extremely comfortable bringing them back for a week during our vacation as I know, they will be in good hands.

We adopted Monty this fall. He's a medium sized dog about two years old. Right out of the shelter,…read morehe was really "mouthy" and didn't have any doggie manners, plus he has a Very High prey drive. I was pretty nervous to start boarding him, just because of his behavioral issues. Well I'm so glad we tried Shangri-La Kennels! Monty has been there several times now, and we honestly won't go any other place. The owner Don is kind, he really knows dogs, and he runs a clean & safe kennel. He's been flexible and understanding when changes happen in our schedule (we even did an emergency drop-off once without calling ahead). Thank you to Don and Shangri-La Kennels -- not only do you make our lives easier, but Monty loves visiting you. We will be back, for sure. (By the way, Monty doing great. He's settling right in with us and getting to be a better boy every day.)

Great service, happy dogs, amazing price!…read more We dropped our dog off while we went camping for the weekend with friends. Our dog is usually more interested in human companionship than canine companionship, so I told the ladies who checked her in that we weren't sure how she would prefer to sleep (in the open or on her own). When I picked her up, I learned that one of the women working there let our dog snuggle with her all weekend - on the sofa watching tv and even overnight to sleep. When she was checked out, she was calm, happy, and relaxed. I couldn't ask for anything more! These people love dogs and just want them to be happy and comfortable, no matter what their personality. It seemed like our dog enjoyed her weekend in the country as much as we did!

Ive used BDI a few times as Ive only lived here for 5 years. They are considered the best in the…read morearea. My Corgi Basil, is a sensitive dog. He's 5 years old and a bit of a goof ball when his needs are met. In the past 6 mos Ive used BDI twice. When I brought Basil for a stay in Dec. He approached the entrance and when the door to the office was opened, he did an about face, and headed back to the car. As I was headed to the airport, I had to coerse him to enter the office. I assumed it was nothing unusual. (first red flag). The staff would not let me see the back where the dogs are kept. ( second red flag ). Basil stayed 6 days that time. Recently I attended a week long event and booked a res for him well in advance. They insist on 50% deposit, which was substancial. When I dropped him off, again he balked at the entrance. ( 3rd red flag). I decided to call the next day to see how he was doing. Call went to voicemail, no one called me back. ( 4th red flag). Two more days go by, I call again, mentioning my first call that had not been returned. I then received an email telling me Basil was fine, wnjoying his stay. Pictures were sent to convince me. On pick up day, I emailed my arrival time, and was there at 4pm. Dani said she would email me a receipt when the charges went through. I took Basil home, he was exausted. No charges came thru til 48 hrs later, no email either. I saw the charge on my bank statement online. I emailed BDI and explained how I had not received a receipt, and found it unsettling, and unorofessional to charge a customer without the chance to review the charges. Within 15 minutes, I recieved an email with the charges, and an additional email from the manager Natasha, apologising for the delay, and telling me I was no longer welcome to make a future reservation with them. (Huge red flag). Any business that is that reactive to legitimate concerns, and results in blocking the customer, is a reason to really question this business, and their integrity. Im fine, Basil is fine, we will spread the word about our experience and never go back per their request. H Harwood
