The result was a perfect paint match, a cost slightly under budget and a surprisingly fast repair with a bonus inside/outside car wash. In hindsight I think he may have had a dead portable battery. It was reading 0V across the terminals immediately upon being hooked to my car. Overall, I paid a lot for what might have been an unnecessary tow. I can't prove it, but my hunch is that somebody like AAA, which has no financial incentive to perform unnecessary tows, would have made the roadside jumpstart work.
